JD 94 (10/2017): A wine readers need to snatch up is the 2015 Gigondas as it way over-delivers and is up with the finest examples of the classic Gigondas made. Based on 70% Grenache, 15% Mourvèdre, 14% Syrah and a splash of Cinsault, aged in 15% new barrels, it boasts terrific notes of sweet cassis and black raspberry fruits, garrigue, toasted spices and pepper. With full-bodied richness, beautiful sweetness of fruit and an opulent, sexy texture, it will drink nicely for 10-15 years.
WA 90 (10/2017): A medium to full-bodied blend of 70% Grenache, 15% Syrah and 15% Mourvèdre raised in a combination of concrete, foudres and barriques, the 2015 Gigondas offers lovely spice and garrigue notes, dark fruit and a long, dry finish. It's a classic introduction to the appellation. |

WA 92-95 (2/2008): Another wine that is backward and restrained but pure, rich, and impressive is the 2006 Gigondas Le Claux. Barruol thinks this is the most masculine and ruggedly constructed Gigondas in his portfolio. This wine (375 cases) comes from clay and limestone as opposed to the almost pure limestone of the 2006 Gigondas Le Poste. Less exuberant, more tannic, structured , and firm, the wine has terrific minerality, purity of fruit, and a structured, tannic feel. This is a big, big wine, and ruggedly built for the long haul. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2025.
VM 93 (2/2009): Dark purple. Knockout bouquet displays black raspberry, cherry preserves, licorice, dried flowers and smoky minerals. Lively red and dark berry flavors completely saturate the palate, with tangy minerality providing grip and definition. With air, a sexy floral quality comes up and carries into the finish. Leaves behind an alluring trail of red berries, flowers and minerals. |

| JD 97 (1/2022): The 2019 Gigondas Les Claux is one of the powerful yet elegant wines and offers a great bouquet of red and black fruits, graphite, crushed stone, and spice. VM 98 (1/2023): Opaque red. Sharply defined red fruit, floral and Moroccan spice aromas, along with intense mineral, garrigue and cola nuances. Shows superb depth as well as vivacity on the palate, offering juicy red and blue fruit, floral pastille and spicecake flavors and an exotic hint of blood orange. Finishes impressively long and precise with firm tension, discreet tannins and reverberating red fruit and floral notes.
JD 96 (3/2023): Leading off the three single vineyards, the 2020 Gigondas Le Claux is all Grenache as always and comes from a site just down the hill from the estate. It has lots of savory red and black fruits, ground pepper, and dried garrigue nuances as well as medium to full-bodied richness on the palate. Polished, elegant, and finesse-driven, it shows the pure, balanced style of the vintage perfectly and is a brilliant wine to enjoy over the coming two decades. |
