VM 93 (2/2018): The 2015 de Pez is dark, powerful and super-inviting. A rush of black cherry, plum, chocolate, gravel and smoke run though this gorgeous, delineated Saint Estèphe. Today, the Pez is virile, tannic and imposing, with noble character and personality to burn. The 2015 has really grown since I last tasted it. This is superb effort for the vintage, but my impression is that the best is yet to come for this chateau, where quality continues to grow. The 2015 is 51% Merlot, 44% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Petit Verdot and 2% Cabernet Franc. Antonio Galloni.
JD 91 (11/2017): From a vineyard just next to Calon Segur, the 2015 Château De Pez a blend of 51% Merlot, 44% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Petit Verdot, and 2% Franc all raised in 30% new oak. This medium to full-bodied, impressively concentrated 2015 offers classic dark fruits, tobacco leaf, damp earth and hints of violets. With ripe tannin, a solid mid-palate and a good finish. It’s an incredibly successful Saint-Estèphe in 2015 that’s going to keep for 15-20 years. |

JD 93 (4/2022): Currants, plums, new leather, and cedar pencil notes all emerge from the 2019 Château De Pez, a nicely balanced, medium to full-bodied Saint-Estèphe that has plenty of classic character as well as class. With ripe, polished tannins and terrific purity, it can be drunk any time over the coming 20-25 years. (Drink between 2022-2047)
VM 92 (2/2022): The 2019 de Pez has gained tremendously in weight, power and substance. A wine of breadth and pure power, Pez possesses tremendous resonance and intensity, right out of the gate. Scorched earth, incense, plum, menthol and tar hit the palate. This rich, heady Saint-Estèphe has a ton to offer. Antonio Galloni.
WA 92-94 (6/2020): This year's blend is 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 42% Merlot, 1% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot. Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2019 de Pez comes tumbling out of the glass with an astonishingly beautiful perfume of lilacs, black cherries and black raspberries over a core of stewed plums, clove oil, dark chocolate and Sichuan pepper. The medium-bodied palate is jam-packed with energetic black fruits, supported by a firm foundation of ripe, grainy tannins and lovely freshness, finishing long and perfumed. I love where this once-malingering château is headed—bravo to winemaker Nicolas Glumineau from Pichon Lalande! |
