| JD 95 (4/2019): Made at the K Vintners facility outside of Seattle, the 2015 Malbec / Cabernet Sauvignon checks in as 77% Malbec and 23% Cabernet Sauvignon, brought up in French oak. It’s a shockingly good Malbec and one of the top expressions of the variety I’ve tasted from Washington. Deep purple-colored with awesome notes of blackberries, smoked herbs, gravelly earth, and graphite, it’s full-bodied, concentrated, and powerful, yet still just glides over the palate. It’s a stunning wine and one of the few examples of the variety I’d put up with the best of Argentina. |

| VM 94 (12/2019): Bright dark ruby. Slightly high-toned aromas and flavors of crushed blackberry, cassis and licorice; I would have guessed from the nose that this contained some Petit Verdot (and I would have been wrong). Densely packed, savory wine with terrific creamy depth and pliancy of dark berry fruit. As concentrated, tactile and delineated as this wine is, it's most impressive for its utter seamlessness. Finishes very long, with suave tannins coating the teeth. A great Washington Malbec. (15.5% alcohol; made with long skin contact and aged in 50% new oak for 24 months) (Drink between 2020-2028). Stephen Tanzer. |
