JS 93-94 (4/2018): Very sophisticated with a full body, fresh acidity, chewy tannins and a long yet savory finish. Regal and dialed-in, and the tannin quality is very velvety despite the concentrated fruit. VM 89-92 (5/2018): The 2017 Saint-Georges (Côte Pavie) is powerful and dense. Grilled herbs, smoke, game, tobacco and licorice add to an impression of virile power. Big, potent tannins reinforce that feeling. Today, the 2017 is a bit rustic and rough around the edges. Hopefully elevage can take care of some of that. I remain deeply intrigued by what winemakers Stephane Derenoncourt and Hannah Fiegenschuh will do at this small estate located between La Gaffelière and Pavie. Antonio Galloni. WA 88-90+ (4/2018): The 2017 Côte Pavie is medium to deep garnet-purple in color with subtle, slightly closed notes of crushed blackberries and warm plums on the nose plus nuances of spice box, dusty soil and underbrush. Medium-bodied, firm and a little reticent, it delivers nice harmony if the fruit isn’t quite singing just yet. JD 88-90 (4/2018): Based on 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc, the 2017 Château Saint-Georges Côte Pavie comes from the choice parts of the Côte Pavie located just outside the village of Saint-Emilion. Blackcurrants, black cherries, graphite, and hints of chocolate all emerge from the glass, and it's medium-bodied, clean and straightforward, with good fruit. Tasted twice, with one sample being slightly more straightforward, but both showed Outstanding potential. |
