WA 90 (1/2016): Tasted blind at the Southwold Bordeaux tasting. The 2012 Potensac surpassed my expectations from barrel, because as I stated back then, it has developed more flesh to counterbalance those prenatal hard tannins. It has an attractive if unspectacular raspberry, strawberry and tobacco-scented bouquet, quite closed at first, opaque, but opening with several minutes in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with supple ripe blackberry fruit laced with tobacco and sea salt. I appreciate the finish here. There is satisfying substance, a gentle grip and a classic pencil lead, almost Pauillac-like finish. Enjoy this upstanding Medoc from Jean-Hubert Delon over the next 10-12 years. VM 89 (1/2016): Dark red cherry, plum, spice and menthol are all pushed forward in the 2012 Potensac. Supple, dark and nicely layered in the glass, this supple Medoc is an excellent choice for drinking over the next few years. The 2012 is 48% Merlot, 33% Cabernet Sauvignon and 19% Cabernet Franc. This is a successful wine for the year, with a level of quality that really justifies the existence of a second wine. Drink it over the next handful of years. Antonio Galloni. JS 89 (2/2015): A silky and refined Potensac and very well done for the vintage. Medium body, fine tannins and crisp acidity. Lots of citrus and raspberry character. Drink or hold. |

| VM 90 (2/2017): The 2014 Potensac offers striking intensity to match its bold, inviting personality. Blue and black stone fruit, grilled herbs, licorice and dark spices make a strong first impression. The Delon family makes a number of top-notch wines, and Potensac is arguably the hidden jewel in the range. Drink this exuberant Medoc over the next handful of years. The blend is 40 % Merlot, 39 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 18 % Cabernet Franc and 3 % Petit Verdot. Antonio Galloni. |

JS 94 (1/2019): Suave aromas of cedar and fresh red flowers with a thread of ripe red berries and blackcurrants, mulberries, coal smoke and cool stones. The palate delivers a wealth of rich red-fruit flavors, framed in sleek tannins that build with precision and length. A class act. One of the best from here in the modern era. Try from 2023. VM 92 (8/2020): The 2016 Potensac has a ripe, pure-fruit-driven bouquet of black cherries and bilberry fruit, developing lovely floral aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with fleshy ripe black fruit and fine mineralite. There is a subtle marine influence at play toward the finish, and a dash of white pepper on the aftertaste. Enjoyable. Tasted blind at the Southwold tasting. Neal Martin. JD 91 (2/2019): Another sleeper is the 2016 Château de Potensac, which is 44% Merlot, 39% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, all aged 14 months in 30% new French oak. This beauty is upfront and ready to go, with a dark, rich bouquet of currants, unsmoked tobacco, graphite, and earth. With beautiful concentration and a layered, elegant texture, it’s one of those wines that has ample upfront appeal yet will keep for 15+ years. |

JS 91-92 (4/2018): A bright and vivid young red with currant, berry and floral aromas and flavors. Medium-bodied, tight and concentrated. Fine tannins. WA 87-88 (4/2018): A normal blend of 47% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Cabernet Franc (which is slightly elevated) and the rest Petit Verdot, the 2017 Château Potensac offers a deep, ripe, nicely textured style that’s already a joy to drink. It has bright acidity, classy notes of raspberries, spring flowers and damp earth, medium body, and a juicy, clean finish. Still aging in 35% new French oak, it will be a good value. |
