WA 97 (10/2017): This estate blend from Howell Mountain was formerly known as “Obsidian.” Composed of 74% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Petit Verdot, 8% Cabernet Franc, 4% Merlot and 4% Malbec, the 2015 Proprietary Red Estate gives a deep garnet-purple color and aromas of spiced blackberries, fruitcake and plum pudding with suggestions of Indian spices, earth and underbrush, plus a touch of violets. Packed with rich, opulent fruit in the full-bodied mouth, it has a solid, fine-grained backbone and plenty of freshness, finishing long and multilayered. JD 95 (12/2017): A step up, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain Estate is more concentrated, yet also has more freshness, purity, and focus. Blackcurrants, Asian spice, licorice, dried earth and even a hint of meatiness all emerge from this medium to full-bodied, balanced, textured beauty that has terrific length. It’s another classic, structured wine that will evolve beautifully for two decades or more. (Drink between 2018-2038). |

| WA 90+ (10/2013): The dark purple 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon Obsidian has the smell of pen ink, licorice, blackberry and wet rocks. Full-bodied, muscular, rich and brooding, this big wine requires patience. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2030. |

| WA 98+ (12/2015): The 2013 Obsidian (625 cases) is a similar but slightly different blend than its predecessor (72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc, 7% Petit Verdot, and the rest small portions of Malbec and Merlot). It has an opaque purple color and a stunning nose of acacia flowers, blackberries, licorice, forest floor, mocha/chocolate, and gobs of cassis fruit. Great intensity, a full-bodied, multi-layered mouthfeel, stunning purity, and a length of 45+ seconds make for an exquisite, full-throttle, yet beautifully intense Napa Cabernet Sauvignon that should dink well for 20-30 years. |
