VM 93-96 (1/2018): (vinified in two new barrels air-dried for 36 months): Good medium red, not as dark as the Clos de Bèze. Classical red-soil Bonnes-Mares perfume of raspberry, redcurrant, iron and brown spice. Offers a compelling combination of thickness, density and sucrosite, with its red fruit flavors complicated by clove, cinnamon and aromatic herbs and captivating saline minerality; there's a mineral-driven spiciness that reminds me of the Volnay Caillerets. This wonderfully energetic wine finishes with lovely subtle floral/spicy perfume and rising length, with piquant notes of blood orange and lemon contributing to an impression of weightlessness. A very sophisticated, refined Bonnes-Mares in the making. Stephen Tanzer. |

BH 95 (4/2019): (from Chambolle fruit.) Here too the nose is quite restrained with its admirably pure aromas of red cherry, dark currant, spice and earth along with notes of violet and lavender. I very much like the sense of underlying tension to the succulent, indeed even juicy, medium weight plus flavors that exude a subtle salinity on the tautly muscular and firm finish that flashes just a hint of youthful austerity. This isn't quite as complex as the Chambertin but it's close and it may well close the gap over time as this is also very clearly structured for mid to even longer-term keeping. Drink 2035+. |

BH 95 (4/2020): (from Chambolle fruit.) Here the reserved nose is ripe yet cool with its layered combination of both red and dark berry fruit aromas that are also quite spicy. There is a bit less density to the middle weight flavors that compensate by being sleeker and more well-delineated on the beautifully textured, dusty, powerful and very serious finale. This is unapologetically built-to-age and a wine that's going to need at least a decade first. Drink 2035+. WA 95+ (1/2020): Another of the highlights of the range is the 2018 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru, a striking wine that soars from the glass with notes of raspberries, red berries, rose petals, sweet spices, violets and forest floor. On the palate, it's full-bodied, deep and concentrated, with striking cut and definition, concluding with a long, mineral finish. This is an exquisitely refined Bonnes-Mares that is worth a special effort to seek out. |

BH 95 (4/2021): (from Chambolle fruit). This too is quite aromatically cool and restrained with its combination of essence of red currant, cherry, lavender, soft spice elements and admirably subtle wood. The juicy and impressively concentrated flavors flash excellent intensity and focused power while displaying the same gorgeous texture as the Echezeaux, all wrapped in a hugely long, serious and impeccably well-balanced finale. This is beautifully refined, indeed while it may seem like an oxymoron given Bonnes Mares’ well-deserved reputation for power and muscle, this is more a wine of finesse. Even so, this should have no trouble aging and improving for close to 20 years. Drink 2036+. |

BH 95 (3/2022): (from both Chambolle and Morey fruit). A cool, pretty and quite floral-suffused nose speaks mostly of red currant, plum, earth and a hint of just sliced fennel. The sleek, tautly muscular and enveloping big-bodied flavors exude a lovely tension that is also present on the dusty, serious, very compact and clearly built-to-age finale. This excellent effort should amply repay extended cellaring. Drink 2035+. |

BH 94 (4/2023): A much more floral nose blends notes of dark currant, anise and a similar smoked meat component. BH 95 (4/2025): (from both Chambolle and Morey fruit). A slightly riper though still appealingly fresh nose combines notes of red and black cherry along with spice hints and a background suggestion of kirsch. There is a lovely sense of delicacy and refinement to the reasonably concentrated flavors that possess a gorgeous acid/fruit/tannin balance on the hugely long finale where a touch of wood slowly emerges. This is not what I would describe as a classic Bonnes Mares but it is nonetheless a gorgeous wine, indeed calling it a Bonnes Mares of finesse would be apt. Drink 2035+. |

BH 94 (4/2017): A deft touch of wood sets off a beautifully complex and relatively high-toned nose that combines copious spice notes along with aromas of red and blue pinot fruit, plum and an interesting hint of orange peel. VM 93-95 (1/2018): (just 20 hectoliters per hectare produced; 50% new oak): Medium bright red. Denser, darker and more serious on the nose than the other Volnay premier crus at this address, offering mineral-driven scents of black cherry, spices and licorice. Wonderfully elegant and fine-grained, combining Outstanding volume and an impression of finesse and weightlessness. Conveys a small-berry concentration and near-perfect balance, finishing with refined tannins and terrific length and lift. This stunning Volnay is wonderfully approachable today but I suspect it will shut down a bit by the time it's bottled and benefit from five to eight years of cellaring. Stephen Tanzer. |

BH 93 (4/2020): An equally ripe nose speaks of cassis, black raspberry, spiced tea and similar floral whiffs. The mouthfeel of the middle weight flavors is classy and sophisticated thanks to the super-fine-grained tannins shaping the lacy, lilting and strikingly long finish. This is excellent and very much worth your interest. Drink 2030+. Sweet Spot Outstanding! WA 94 (1/2020): Invariably a highlight of the portfolio, Boillot's 2018 Volnay 1er Cru Les Caillerets derives from a low-yielding 60-are parcel of 55-year-old vines. Unfurling in the glass with a deep bouquet of wild berries, plums, raw cocoa and sweet soil tones, it's medium to full-bodied, deep and multidimensional, its concentrated core of vibrant fruit underlined by succulent acids and framed by chalky tannins. This is a brilliant wine that's worth a special effort to seek out. |

The racy, delicious and silky flavors sit on a firm base of minerality while delivering superb length on the beautifully balanced, youthfully austere and highly complex finale. This very classy effort should also drink reasonably well young but it has everything it needs for a long life. Drink 2034+. Outstanding! VM 93-95 (1/2024): The 2022 Volnay Les Caillerets 1er Cru shows the more nervy side of the village vis-à-vis the other Volnays in the range. White pepper, chalk, mint and crushed rocks add notable aromatic lift. There’s gorgeous precision here, but readers will have to be patient, as the 2022 clearly needs time to be at it best. VM 90-92 (1/2015): Bright, dark red. Reticent, rather wild aromas of dark cherry and underbrush. Energetic but backward; much tighter today than the village wine and more dominated by its structure. The wild quality carries through on the palate. Best today on the back end, where fine-grained tannins spread out to saturate the palate. WA 88-90 (12/2014): The 2013 Volnay 1er Cru Fremiets comes from a single parcel of vines. The nose is well defined, dominated by the new oak at the moment, but there is sufficient fruit underneath. The palate is medium-bodied with chewy tannins, quite dense at the moment with a touch of bell pepper on the masculine finish. Fine - if just a bit predictable. BH 88 (4/2015): Here too there are discreet floral nuances to the pretty red and dark currant scents that are liberally laced with earth and sandalwood nuances. There is a bit more volume to the medium-bodied flavors that retain a lovely sense of detail on the energetic, dusty and mildly austere finish though in this case there is just a hint of dryness that detracts slightly from the overall sense of balance and harmony. Drink 2020+. |

The supple and quite round medium-bodied flavors possess a bit more volume if less finesse on the impressively persistent and slightly firmer finish where a trace of wood appears. Drink 2025+. |

BH 92 (4/2022): A ripe but reasonably fresh nose offers up its array of dark raspberry liqueur, essence of poached plum and pretty spice wisps. There is fine intensity to the delicious medium weight flavors that flash good minerality on the rich and solidly powerful finish that delivers sneaky good length. This too could actually be opened on the younger side if youthful fruit appeals more to you. Drink 2027+. Outstanding! |

BH 93 (4/2024): This is also aromatically ripe but fresh with its array of violet, lilac, dark currant and poached plum scents. There is excellent volume to the slightly more concentrated middleweight flavors that flash evident minerality on the impressively complex, persistent, firm and balanced finale. This is excellent and a wine that should drink reasonably well young if you lack patience! Drink 2032+. Outstanding! VM 92-94 (1/2024): The 2022 Volnay Les Fremiets 1er Cru presents a dark, almost somber expression of Volnay. Blue/purplish fruit, new leather, licorice and lavender infuse the 2022 with striking complexity and dimension. Gravel, dried flowers and dark spice add lovely complexity to this decidedly virile, imposing Volnay. The tannins need time to soften, but there’s plenty of fruit. Neal Martin. |

VM 93-95 (9/2016): (50% new oak): Deep, musky aromas of very ripe stone fruits and clove. This powerful yet suave Batard finishes smooth and vibrant, with a repeating note of clove and terrific saline persistence. |

BH 96 (6/2022): (one contiguous parcel measuring about .24 ha is spread evenly between Chassagne and Puligny; Boillot calls it his Bâtard du Milieu.) A slightly riper yet still very fresh, cool and pretty with acacia blossom, citrus confit and a beautiful array of spice wisps. There is terrific size, weight and mid-palate density to the big-bodied and powerful flavors that culminate in a lemon, very clean and hugely long finale. This is like a block at present and I wouldn't touch a bottle for the first 7 to 8 years. In a word, excellent. Drink 2032+. |

BH 93 (6/2022): (a monopole measuring .62 ha that is actually part of Les Cras). Here too the nose is sufficiently reduced to render an assessment difficult. More interesting are the refined and beautifully textured middle weight flavors that possess very good detail on the moderately austere finale that is also compact. While not as tightly wound as the Genevrières, this will still need at least a few years of forbearance. Drink 2028+. |

BH 93 (6/2024): (a monopole measuring .62 ha that is actually part of Les Cras.) An all but imperceptible application of wood can be detected on the more floral-suffused aromas of acacia, lilac and citrus confit nose. The vibrant and super-sleek middleweight flavors possess a sophisticated mouthfeel and excellent concentration before concluding in a stony, bitter lemon-inflected and beautifully persistent finish. This doesn't have the sheer size and weight of the Goutte d'Or but it is noticeably finer. Drink 2030+. Outstanding! VM 93-95 (1/2024): The 2022 Meursault Clos Richemont 1er Cru is a dense, opulent white built on texture more than anything else. It is one of the most overt wines in the Boillot range. Orange jam, spice, vanillin, lemon confit and baked apple tart infuse the 2022 with tons of textural intensity. This is such a distinctive wine. Neal Martin. |

BH 93 (6/2018): An overtly smoky nose features exotically spiced aromas of tea, pear, apple and acacia blossom. The beautifully detailed, stony and delicious flavors possess a highly sophisticated mouth feel before concluding in a beautifully persistent finish. A classic Genevrières of style and grace. Drink 2024+. Sweet Spot Outstanding! VM 92-94 (9/2017): Medium yellow. Discreet aromas of mandarin orange and musky smoky oak. Suave, silky wine with a lovely balance of thick yet precise yellow fruits, soft citrus flavors and saline minerality. Finishes very long, spicy and pure, with a slight youthful aggressiveness. This tactile, extract-rich premier cru should age well. Stephen Tanzer. |

BH 96 (6/2018): ( from 60+ year old vines and the vineyard is a whopping 4 ha monopole within Perrières.) A highly restrained nose requires considerable swirling to liberate the beautifully well-layered aromas of mineral reduction, white rose, spice, citrus and a wisp of exotic tea. Like the Pucelles there is excellent richness and detail and much more minerality-suffusing the almost painfully intense finale that is breathtaking in its persistence. This is a gem of a Puligny 1er and in 2016 is a lovely blend of power and finesse. In sum, this is a knockout. Drink 2028+. Don't miss! Outstanding! VM 93-95 (9/2017): (13.3% alcohol with 4.5 grams per liter acidity; cropped at 38 hectoliters per hectare, from vines up to 80 years of age): Bright light-medium yellow. Utterly pure scents of stone fruits, apricot, nuts and honeysuckle. Rich, deep, silky and moderately saline but also powerful and backward, displaying terrific precision and purity in the mouth. A superb, classic Clos de la Mouchère: utterly plush and seamless without being heavy or over the top. Boillot noted that he will slowly replant these very old vines in a series of tranches over the next 15 to 25 years. Stephen Tanzer. |

There is excellent volume and minerality to the strikingly textured medium-bodied flavors that display outstanding complexity on the balanced, dry and impressively persistent finish. This is one very classy wine that is already wonderfully harmonious. Drink 2028+. Don't miss! Outstanding! Once again, the mid-palate mouthfeel of the medium-bodied flavors is absolutely gorgeous, which contrasts noticeably with the cuts-like-a-knife finish that remains ultra-refined, balanced and persistent. BH 94 (6/2023): Cool, airy and very pretty aromas of the essence of pear, exotic tea, spice and acacia blossom are trimmed in an admirably discreet touch of oak. BH 94 (6/2024): Cool aromas of mostly white flowers and apple are trimmed in an almost pungent minerality, indeed this too is like sniffing wet rocks. The precise and intensely stony middleweight flavors possess a refined mouthfeel that carries over to the precise, youthfully austere and tightly wound finale. This balanced effort is seriously good but also a wine that is going to require extended patience. This is absolutely a wine to look for. Dirnk 2032+. Outstanding! VM 92-94 (1/2024): The 2022 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Perrières 1er Cru is a heady explosive wine endowed with tremendous depth and textural intensity. Crushed rocks, mint, graphite, tangerine oil and insistent saline notes all meld together as this potent, driving Puligny makes its presence felt. WA 94 (1/2020): Boillot's 2018 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Pucelles reveals aromas of orange oil, white flowers and peaches, complemented by classy top notes of nutmeg and warm bread. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, satiny and vibrant, with quite a tensile, tight-knit core for this typically enveloping premier cru. But looking back through my notes, that often seems to be the case chez Boillot. BH 92 (6/2020): Here too there is a touch of residual SO2 that may require decanting so that the elegant aromas of honeysuckle, acacia, lilac and poached pear aromas can be appreciated. There is a bit more volume if not quite the same minerality and precision to the beautifully textured flavors that are quite seductive before concluding in a delicious if mildly sweet and warm finish. This is lovely but doesn't possess the class and distinction of the Perrières or Clos de la Mouchère. Drink 2026+. Outstanding! |

BH 95 (6/2021): There is enough reduction to overshadow the underlying fruit at present so if you’re going to try a bottle before 2 to 3 years, I would advise decanting it first. Otherwise there is a beguiling sense of energy suffusing the medium-bodied flavors that possess a succulent mid-palate which contrasts somewhat with the bone-dry and youthfully austere finale. This is both classy and very stylish and a wine that should age gracefully. Drink 2031+. |

BH 95 (6/2024): Smoky aromas of Granny Smith apple, honeysuckle and a plethora of citrus influences are trimmed in discreet wood. There is fine volume to the delicious and almost creamy larger-scaled flavors that brim with a sappy dry extract on the lemon-tinged and youthfully austere finale that displays unusually good power in the context of what is typical for Pucelles. Like the Combettes, this is also very classy juice with the development potential to match. Drink 2032+. Outstanding! VM 94-96 (1/2024): The 2022 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Pucelles 1er Crus is an absolute delight. Bright and effusive, with tons of aromatic presence, the Pucelles is immediately charming. Lemon confit, crushed rocks, almond and a hint of reduction all soar out of the glass. Vibrant and wonderfully nuanced, the Pucelles is lights out. Neal Martin. |
