VM 99 (6/2013): I have always adored San Giusto a Rentennano's 2006 Percarlo, a wine I bought heavily as 2006 is my son's birth year. Is the 2006 ready? Of course not, but after a gentle decant it is gorgeous with this menu. It is an especially good match for the pigeon and quadrotto. The bright Sangiovese acidity in particular seems to literally carry the flavors across the palate, giving them lift and an additional sense of energy. Antonio Galloni. |

WA 95+ (8/2011): The 2007 Percarlo (Sangiovese) is a huge, explosive wine. The fruit literally covers every inch of the palate in this extroverted, opulent Percarlo. Soft, seamless and beautifully balanced, the 2007 comes across as a modern-day version of 1997 in its enveloping, sensual personality. It is a stunning wine from start to finish. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2027. |

WA 96 (6/2012): The 2008 Percarlo is holding back serious power in reserve. A tightly wound core of fruit hits the palate as this energetic, vibrant wine shows off its taut personality. The 2008 needs time to resolve some of its inner tension, but it is strikingly beautiful just the same. Today it reminds me of the 1996, but with more kick and depth. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2033. VM 90+ (7/2012): (100% sangiovese; 14.5% alcohol): Deep ruby. Earth and tar notes complicate deep red cherry and herbs on the nose. Enters smooth, rich and suave, with aromatic bay leaf and clove notes accenting and lifting the flavors of red cherry and earth. Finishes with youthfully chewy tannins and hints of vanilla and iron. Certainly a very good Percarlo, but I don't find the depth of the best vintages. However, since this wine always seems to gain in flesh and volume with bottle aging, I tend to give it the benefit of the doubt with regard to future development. |

VM 98 (8/2013): The 2010 Percarlo is shaping up to be one of the elite wines of this great Tuscan vintage. Even today, the 2010 is remarkably seamless, balanced and integrated, with fine tannins, beautifully delineated fruit and exceptional overall balance. Layers of dark fruit, graphite and exotic spices build to a crescendo of aromas and flavors that captivates the senses. Although it is early, it certainly looks like the 2010 Percarlo is set to take its place as one of the greatest wines ever made at San Giusto. Antonio Galloni. |

VM 97 (9/2014): The 2011 Percarlo is one of the most beautiful, expressive young Percarlos I have ever tasted. Fine, silky and exceptionally polished, the 2011 boast stunning textural depth and richness. Absolutely nothing is out of place in this super-sexy, racy, Percarlo. Once again San Giusto has elevated Sangiovese to a lofty, rarified level. Readers who can find the 2011 Percarlo should not hesitate. It is a real stunner. Antonio Galloni. |

VM 98 (2/2019): The 2015 Percarlo, the estate's 100% Sangiovese, towers in the glass with huge, dark fruit to match its powerful, vertical structure. Ample and expansive on the palate, with huge textural depth, the 2015 is a total stunner. The darker, more muscular side of Sangiovese emerges in this gorgeous, absolutely stunning wine. Black cherry, lavender, spice and smoke overtones fill out the wine's big frame effortlessly. Proprietor Luca Martini di Cigala aged the 2015 in a combination of cask and tonneau. The 2015 Percarlo is a riveting wine readers will not want to miss. Antonio Galloni. |

VM 97 (9/2020): The 2017 Percarlo is an exotic beauty. Rich and sumptuous in the glass, with tremendous fruit density, the 2017 packs a serious punch. Succulent dark cherry, plum, licorice, menthol and earthy notes emerge over time, but the tannins remain imposing. Like the Baròncole, the Percarlo needs cellaring to be at its best. The 2017 was much more forthcoming from barrel. It will reveal all of that sumptuousness once again, but not soon. Antonio Galloni. WS 95 (7/2021): This red is saturated with blackberry, black currant, violet, iron and spice flavors. Powerful tannins lend support and this finishes with lingering fruit and rustic tannins, with terrific length. Best from 2023 through 2036. 850 cases made, 175 cases imported. |
