VM 92-94 (3/2016): Youthful violet. Vibrant, spice- and mineral-laced black and blue fruit scents show excellent focus and pick up suggestions of cola and violet with air. Sappy, concentrated and pure, offering juicy blueberry and boysenberry flavors firmed by a spine of tangy acidity. Blends power and vivacity with a deft hand and finishes very long and minerally, with supple tannins building steadily and in harmony with the wine's fruit. All of the fruit from Rostaing's Côte Blonde and La Landonne holdings are in this bottling this vintage. Josh Raynolds.
JLL ***[*] (10/2016): Red robe. Has a fine tune nose, a pure blueberry, a murmur of violets, Pez sweets, discreet licorice and a wee note of toffee from the oak. The palate starts out rather spindly, with fine fruit, crisp tannin, all in precision. This is medium weight, Nordic in style, comes with a floral roundness on the finish, which brings in some extra drive, depth. From 2019.
WA 89-91 (12/2015): What should be an Outstanding wine, the 2014 Cote Rotie Ampodium is a medium-bodied, classically styled and elegant Cote Rotie that offers plenty of both red and black fruits, spring flowers, and toasted spice characteristics on the nose and palate. Possessing both good concentration and notable acidity, it should benefit from short term cellaring and drink well for a decade. |

| JD 92 (1/2018): Moving to the 2015s, all of which were tasted out of bottle, the 2015 Côte Rôtie Ampodium is well worth your time and money. Dark fruits, peppery, licorice, and ground herb characteristics flow to a full-bodied, impressively endowed, ripe, balanced 2015 that will drink nicely for 10-15 years. |

JD 91-93 (1/2018): Moving to the 2016s from barrel, this late vintage wasn’t completely brought in until the middle of October. The 2016 Côte Rôtie Ampodium has the purity and elegance that’s the hallmark of the vintage as well as ripe berry fruits, violets, and pepper. It’s a charming, forward 2016 that’s going to drink nicely right out of the gate.
WA 91-93 (12/2017): I tasted from a barrel that Rostaing said represented something "close to the final blend" of the 2016 Cote Rotie Ampodium. This medium-bodied wine features classic notes of violets, spice and raspberries and has ample flesh covering its silky, tea-like backbone of ripe tannins. It should drink well young.
JLL **** (11/2017): Dark red, crimson tints. The nose is gently rounded, has a raspberry, cassis bud, note of stems infill, mulberry fruit also. This has a bracing, assertive debut, with immediate crunch and red cherry fruit, muscle from within. It’s a sinewed, fresh vintage wine, and I like these tannins – real good pep they have. This combines Burgundian rigour with Côte-Rôtie finesse. “It is closed today, but has very joli potential,” Rene Rostaing. |

| VM 94 (2/2015): Inky ruby. An exotically perfumed bouquet displays intense aromas of red fruit liqueur, potpourri, smoky minerals and white pepper; smells like a very serious Burgundy from a ripe year. Palate-staining raspberry and floral pastille flavors are accented by an exotic jolt of blood orange. Gains weight and sweetness with air, finishing with resonating minerality and outstanding persistence. This graceful wine should enjoy a long evolution thanks to its balance. Josh Raynolds. |

WA 96-98 (12/2017): It's worth reminding readers that this is from a specific lieu-dit and is not a blend of plots from the larger Côte Blonde. The 2016 Cote Rotie La Cote Blonde comes close to equaling the quality of the La Landonne, echoing that wine's floral notes but in a slightly more herbal way. The raspberries here are more briary, the roses more evocative of hips than flowers. It's medium to full-bodied with a rich, velvety texture and a tremendous finish.
VM 95-97 (6/2018): Lurid purple. Pungent aromas of ripe red berries, potpourri and smoky minerals pick up a spicy nuance as the wine stretches out. Silky and seamless in the mouth, displaying superb clarity to the sappy, mineral-laced black raspberry, boysenberry, candied violet and spicecake flavors. Shows a distinctly finesseful, even Burgundian character and finishes wonderfully long and sweet, with building tannins framing the intense fruit and floral qualities. Josh Raynolds.
JD 93-95 (1/2018): The 2016 Côte Rôtie Côte Blonde is another beauty. This cuvee includes a splash of Viognier and I think that’s what gives it a more sexy, forward style compared to the Côte Brune and La Landonne. Black raspberries, violets, spring flowers, and spice all literally soar from this terrific barrel sample. With a full-bodied, opulent, sexy style, sweet tannin, and stacked mid-palate, it’s a blockbuster in the making. |

JLL ****[*] (12/2008): Plenty of red in the robe. Has a somewhat sultry nose (M. Rostaing says it has been open a few days), with a smoky, licorice air on top. The palate holds compact black fruit that comes with a line of freshness through it, but becomes round again on the finish. This is well-knit - I find the 2006 more sunny. It ends on a smoky, straight down the line aftertaste, with definite late mineral in it. This has good balance, and cleanses the palate. From 2012.
VM 93 (1/2009): Medium red. Mineral-driven aromas of red berries, cherry, Asian spices and violet display impressive clarity and vivacity, and a delicacy that is really intriguing. Light on its feet, with deeply concentrated red berry and cherry flavors and a suave floral quality. Silky in texture like a suave Chambolle-Musigny, with excellent finishing spiciness and cut. Pure and stylish. Josh Raynolds.
WA 92 (4/2009): One of the three finest wines made from this great site, the 2006 Cote Rotie La Landonne boasts a deep ruby/purple hue as well as notes of ground pepper, smoked herbs, roasted meats, cassis, and violets. Displaying excellent fruit, medium to full body, and serious richness as well as depth, it should drink well for 10-15 years.
WS 91 (5/2009): Lighter in style, but persistent, with tangy red currant and damson plum flavors guided by sandalwood, iron and sanguine notes. A slightly dusty edge frames the mineral- and white pepper-filled finish. Drink now through 2019. 750 cases made. |

WS 95 (7/2012): This has depth and ripeness, but stays defined, with an almost searing iron spine cutting through the core of plum, blackberry and currant fruit. The long finish lets bay leaf, tobacco and chestnut notes fill in. Showing great drive and intensity, this is still very youthful now and will benefit from extended cellaring. Best from 2015 through 2025. 450 cases made.
JLL ****[*] (3/2011): (Casks) Full red, black cherry colour. A good wide spread of black fruit across the nose, black pastilles with a fine nature and depth at the same time. There is a suggestion of violet in the black cherry air, and it is reasonably welcoming at this stage. The palate holds abundant, deep-seated black fruit accompanied by close, tight tannins. It firms towards the end, but there are juicy tints there as well. The tannins are well infused in the flavour, and while the wine is a bit dumb today, it is tightly packed, with terroir below the content for now. From 2017.
JD 94 (3/2012): Masculine and firm (especially when compared to the Côte Blonde, the 2009 Rene Rostaing Côte-Rôtie La Landonne, 100% Syrah from the 2.1 hectare La Landonne plot, delivers a textbook Côte Brune profile with deep black fruits, iron, cracked pepper, violets, meat, and mineral aromas that flow to a seamless, medium to full-bodied Côte-Rôtie that is delineated, focused, and structured. Despite the masculine profile, it remains beautifully balanced, with silky, polished tannin, and an overall elegance that comes through on the palate and finish. While it doesn’t have the mid-palate core of fruit of the Côte Blonde, it’s stunning nonetheless, and should be given 2-3 years of bottle age, and then consumed over the following 12-15 years.

| JD 97+ (12/2022): From a great terroir in the northern part of Côte Rôtie, the 2020 Côte Rôtie Vallière is another perfumed, mineral-laced 2020, offering a beautiful nose of darker raspberries, camphor, violets, woodsmoke, and grilled bread. Possessing huge minerality, it's medium to full-bodied, has a tight, compact mouthfeel, lots of tannins, and a great finish. It needs to be hidden in the back of the cellar for 7-8 years if possible. |
