VM 94 (1/2016): The 2009 Le Pergole Torte is young, primary and fruit-driven. This is another wine that is hard to taste in this setting, as the flavors are so primary. Sweet red cherry, pomegranate and spices are all pushed forward. Succulent, layered and beautifully expressive, the 2009 is likely to open up sooner than most Pergole Tortes, although another few years will help the tannin soften. In some ways, the 2009 is a less plush and exotic version of the 2007. Next to the other warm vintages (2003, 2007 and 2011), the 2009 is lighter and more mid-weight in structure. Antonio Galloni. |

VM 97 (2/2019): The 2015 Le Pergole Torte captures all the radiance and intensity of the vintage. Deep, powerful and resonant, the 2015 will be a racy wine once it emerges from its recent bottling. As always, the Pergole Torte is differentiated from the Montevertine by its greater textural richness and perfume. In 2015, Pergole Torte is exotically ripe and flamboyant, not to mention utterly captivating. Don't miss it. Antonio Galloni. |

VM 97 (7/2022): The 2019 Le Pergole Torte is all class and refinement. At the same time, the 2019 is quite reticent at this stage. In this tasting, the Pergole Torte comes across as more refined and aromatically expressive than the Montevertine, with lovely brightness driving the red berry fruit. Elegant and sophisticated, the 2019 is a wine to treasure for the next several decades. Time in the glass brings out the floral upper register and red Sangiovese fruit of Pergole Torte. Antonio Galloni. WA 97 (2/2023): Holding back initially, this wine simply needs more time in bottle, and I have adjusted the drinking window accordingly. The 2019 Le Pergole Torte is a long-term proposition showing initial stirrings of tart cherry fruit, plum, licorice, tobacco and crushed stone. There is a pretty floral tone of violet or rosemary flower even now. Winemaking takes this special selection of 100% Sangiovese though cement and Allier and Slavonian oak. The balanced acidity stands out nicely. |

VM 94-97 (8/2019): Shockingly dense and dark, the 2017 Montevertine possesses off the charts textural richness and unctuosity. A freak of nature in a vintage with tiny yields, the 2017 saturates the palate with intense, plush fruit, silky tannins and mind-blowing concentration. Raspberry jam, white flowers, lavender and spice are some of the notes that build into a crescendo of aromas, flavors and textures. The 2017 is shaping up to be an epic Montevertine and a huge overachiever. Interestingly, today the Montevertine shows sweeter tannins and a touch less alcohol than the Pergole Torte. I can't wait to taste it from bottle. Antonio Galloni. |
