| BH 91-94 (1/2005): The aromas are a bit riper and mix both red and black pinot fruit notes as well as a subtle hint of minerality. The flavors however are a striking mix of size and finesse as there is incredible volume here yet this dances across the palate even as the incredible amount of sève coats the mouth. Wow, this is potentially at another level as there is depth, breadth and huge length yet everything remains in impeccable balance. In short, this is one of the very top 1ers of the vintage. VM 92 (3/2015): Medium red. Aromas of raspberry, woodsmoke and flowers complemented by sexy oak tones. Supple and velvety, with inviting flavors of strawberry, raspberry, game and earth supported by smoky minerality. At once juicy and harmonious, finishing with sweet red fruits. (Drink between 2020-2030). Stephen Tanzer.
WA 91 (11/2019): The 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Cazetiers is a little shy after its recent bottling, opening in the glass with aromas of wild berries and orange rind that are framed by a generous application of new oak. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, fine-boned and elegant, with lively acids, fine and powdery tannins and a precise finish. This is never going to challenge the lovely 2016 rendition, but by contrast, it will show all its cards with minimal bottle age. |

| VM 92 (1/2022): The 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Cazetiers 1er Cru is very perfumed on the nose, offering confit-like red berry fruit, blood orange and raspberry jam. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, fine delineation, nice poise and a grippy finish. There’s nice sapidity here, and the constituent parts are all in pace – they just need time to knit together. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting. (Drink between 2025-2045). Neal Martin. |

| VM 91+ (4/2011): Cherry, menthol and saline, smoky minerality on the nose and palate, with the wine's oak element currently blocking its aromatic purity. Then spicy, dry and quite closed in the mid-palate, but with a penetrating, sappy quality to the rather glyceral flavors. Dense but backward wine, finishing with serious dusty tannins. Showed a purer cherry character with long aeration, but this seems the most difficult of the 2008 Faiveley wines to taste today. |

VM 93 (4/2006): Medium red. Initially reticent nose opened quickly to reveal rather wild aromas of raspberry coulis, chocolate and smoked meat. Sweet, broad and sappy, with a tight core of dark berry and mineral flavor. Seamless and not a bit hard. Finishes with toothfurring tannins and terrific palate-saturating breadth. With extended aeration this showed a deep flavor of dark cherry and remained quite suave.
BH 92-95 (1/2005): This may be the most aromatically complex wine today with noticeable wood spice that remains a background element, framing flat out gorgeous ripe pinot fruit and deep, rich and expressive plum and earth notes of superb nuance. The flavors are classic Mazis with that unmistakable sauvage character running the length of the wine and a massive level of dry extract that renders the flavors almost thick yet there is nothing heavy or inelegant about it. This will last for 3 decades, perhaps longer and will certainly require plenty of bottle age before it's ready for prime time but this is a great Mazis of Herculean proportions.
