WA 91-93 (12/2015): The 2014 Charmes Chambertin Grand Cru has a very composed bouquet with intense red cherries, wild strawberry and raspberry preserve aromas, offering that sensuality Burgundy-lovers seek from a Charmes-Chambertin. The palate is medium-bodied and showing the hand of the oak a little at the moment, but it is in proportion with the fruit and the finish maintains fine delineation. VM 90-92 (1/2016): (from vines in the highest part of Mazoyères): Healthy dark red. Aromas of black raspberry, black cherry, licorice, anise and bitter chocolate show less floral character than the Combottes. Rich, fine-grained and deep, conveying a chocolatey ripeness but coming across as a bit earth-bound, with a slightly more rustic texture than the Combottes. This plush wine finishes with big, ripe, chewy tannins. BH 92-95 (1/2016): (from a 1.13 ha parcel in Mazoyères that abuts the Route des Grands Crus.) A more deeply pitched and notably earthier nose also displays plenty of sauvage character. This gamy element continues onto the concentrated medium weight plus flavors that possess a caressing mouth feel despite the evident muscularity of the austere and explosive finish. This is very Mazoyères in character yet it is a bit less rustic than usual. Worth a look provided that you have the patience to cellar it. Drink 2029+. |

| JM 96-96 (11/2018): This is Mazoyères really but Cyprien Arlaud thinks he makes it like a Charmes, with quite late picking for tannin ripeness. In fact there are three picking dates according to the age of vines (25 to 75 year old) and some whole bunch vinification. Dense black purple colour and a richer attack to the nose. There is a solid succulent chunk of flesh, red plus fresh black fruit, an oaky aspect behind, very long finish, needing more time. Tasted: November 2018. |

JD 96 (11/2020): Partially destemmed and brought up in 20% new French oak, the 2018 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru has a smoky, powerful bouquet of mulled black cherries, mulberries, candied violets, licorice, and forest floor. These carry to a full-bodied, concentrated, gorgeous wine with silky tannins, a layered, multi-dimensional texture, plenty of structure, and a great, great finish. This is seriously good juice that's going to benefit from 3-5 years of bottle age and cruise for two decades. (Drink between 2023-2043) VM 94 (11/2022): The 2018 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru has a sensual nose with vivacious red berry fruit, orange pith and light tertiary scents, becoming more and more loamy whilst retaining delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins, creamy in texture that belies the structure underneath. Judiciously spiced towards the finish with just a very subtle menthol note, this is a classy offering. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 red tasting. (Drink between 2026-2048) Neal Martin. JM 93 (9/2022): A deep and slightly darker purple, with more reduction on the nose. The fruit builds impressively behind. When the reduction lifts, as I think it will, this will be a wine of great joy. Dark strawberry notes at the back of the palate and a ripe sensuality at the long finish. The reduction just takes the edge off at the moment. Drink from 2032. |

| JM 94 (9/2023): The most youthful colour amongst the Charmes-Chambertins, a fresh crimson purple. Some slightly beery notes at first on the nose, but then powerful floral and raspberry notes take over. The fruit develops really well on the palate, to leave a fresh vigorous yet also generous fruit at the end. |

VM 94-96 (1/2023): The 2021 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru is a little more "gourmand" on the nose, cohering with time in the glass, loamy, almost peaty aromas emerge with time. The palate is medium-bodied with finely-honed tannins. Lovely symmetry here, with a slight creaminess in texture towards the finish, where it feels very persistent. This is a lovely Charmes-Chambertin that should evolve wonderfully in bottle. Neal Martin. JM 93-95 (11/2022): A fine red purple colour. A light reduction on the nose. There is quite powerful fruit for the vintage, allied to Cyprien’s refined style, slightly rougher tannins, whether an aspect of Gevrey or fractionally lighter maturity. Precision at the back, a fine intensity of fresh raspberry, and the requisite length. Drink from 2028-2034. BH 90-92 (1/2023): A more deeply pitched combination offers up notes of plum, wild dark cherry and plenty of earth. The succulent and solidly powerful medium-bodied flavors are more muscular though not nearly as refined, all wrapped in a detailed, dusty and moderately austere finale that isn't quite as well-balanced. Drink 2033+. |

| VM 95-97 (1/2020): The 2018 Clos Saint-Denis Grand Cru is made with 30% whole-bunch fruit and no new oak. This sports the best bouquet from Arlaud this year, featuring brilliantly detailed black fruit laced with crushed stone and faint incense aromas and conveying composure and refinement. The palate is beautifully balanced with filigreed tannins, perfectly pitched acidity, a sense of cohesion from start to finish and an irresistible sense of energy on the finish. One of the best examples from this Grand Cru. Neal Martin. |

VM 95-979 (1/2023): The 2021 Gevrey-Chambertin Aux Combottes 1er Cru is very convincing on the nose, a mixture of red and black fruit, forest floor, hints of crushed limestone and orange zest. So much vigour. The palate is medium-bodied with beautifully integrated oak, fine-grain tannins, taut and linear with a sublime, quite persistent finish that you just want to keep drinking again and again. Outstanding. Neal Martin. JM 91-94 (11/2022): A bright brisk crimson colour. The fruit on the nose has a little more energy, probably a touch riper than Chatelots. Beautifully balanced on the palate where the riper fruit is matched by fine acidity. There is almost a velvet touch to the texture, while the purity remains deeply impressive. Drink from 2026-2033. BH 90-93 (1/2023): Strikingly pure, airy and distinctly cool aromas include those of essence of red cherry, plum, violet and a whiff of anise character. The beautifully textured and highly sophisticated flavors coat the palate with dry extract on the sneaky long finish. This is a seriously pretty wine though it will need to add depth to merit the upper end of my projected range. Drink 2031+. |

BH 90-92 (1/2016): Reduction. Here too there is fine volume and concentration to the round but muscular middle weight plus flavors that possess more volume but less minerality on the delicious and supple if mildly rustic finish. I very much like the balance and overall depth and this is a wine that should be approachable young yet reward 12 to 15 years of cellaring. Drink 2026+. VM 90-92 (1/2016): (the Arlauds have gotten this fruit from 60-year-old vines through a fermage arrangement since 2004): Good bright red. Lively aromas of black raspberry, spices and violet. Juicy, fruity, spicy and fresh; very ripe but not a fleshy style. Finishes with noteworthy verve and punch, and the spine to reward aging. This dark clay and calcaire soil would probably be great for Chardonnay, noted Cyprien Arlaud. Stephen Tanzer. WA 90-92 (12/2015): The 2014 Morey St Denis 1er Cru les Blanchards demonstrated more fruit intensity on the nose compared to the 2014 Millandes out of barrel: wild strawberry, raspberry and a touch of cassis. The palate is fresh and vibrant on the entry with sappy ripe black fruit, more citric than the Millandes with a sense of nascent energy coming through on the finish. This is very fine Les Blanchards and it should age with style. |

| VM 92-94 (1/2023): The 2021 Morey-Saint-Denis Les Blanchards 1er Cru, which contains just over 30% whole bunches, has a little more mineral expression than the Les Millandes, focus and precise. The palate is medium-bodied with lithe tannins, very citrus fresh, blood orange and tangerine towards the grainy finish. This is very promising. Neal Martin. |

VM 93-95 (1/2023): The 2021 Morey-Saint-Denis Les Ruchots 1er Cru is more introspective at the moment, with fine intensity, the fruit is darker than the Aux Chezaux, with hints of graphite in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-boned tannins, one of the "juiciest" Moreys that I have encountered with candied orange peel and spicebox on the finish. Superb. Neal Martin. JM 93-95 (11/2022): Quite a dense mid purple. The bouquet is beautiful, correctly ripe fruit with an admirable finesse. There is a swell of dark raspberry fruit then a refined mid palate with slightly fresher red fruit, a little hint of spice and quite a long finish. Scaled down from the beauty of the 2019 but sharing the same exceptional qualities. Drink from 2026-2033. |
