JD 96 (1/2020): I also loved the 2014 Asterisk, which shows the complex, balanced, elegant style of this vintage perfectly. Giving up full-bodied notes of tobacco leaf, forest floor, fruitcake, and loads of cassis fruits, it’s deep, flawlessly balanced, and has ripe, polished tannins that emerge on the finish. The balance and purity here are remarkable. and while it offers incredible pleasure today, it’s going to evolve for 20-25 years. WA 95 (12/2018): Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2014 Asterisk is a little closed to begin, slowly revealing blackberry pie, baked blackcurrants and mulberries on the nose with nuances of redcurrant jelly, tobacco and lavender with hints of underbrush and pencil lead. Full-bodied and with a rock-solid backbone of very firm, wonderfully ripe, grainy tannins, the palate has oodles of freshness and impressive depth, finishing long and minerally. VM 93 (1/2018): A gorgeous second wine, the 2014 Asterisk has a lot to offer. Succulent red cherry, plum and pomegranate fruit give the wine much of its racy personality. In 2014, the Asterisk has terrific energy and brightness, with pretty floral and savory notes that add perfume. There is so much grace and class here, but readers should expect the slightly slender style that is typical of the year. Antonio Galloni. |

VM 98 (3/2018): The 2014 Sloan is a terrific example of the vintage at its best. Mocha, espresso, grilled herbs, leather, smoke and licorice are al fused together in this super-expressive, nuanced wine. In 2014, the Sloan is not as exuberant or rich as it can be, but that is really not an issue at all. The 2014 is a gorgeous wine in the making, that's all there is to it. Antonio Galloni. |

WA 100 (12/2018): Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2015 Proprietary Red is a little closed and broody at this youthful stage, the nose beginning to open and grow into a beautiful redcurrant jelly, cassis, kirsch and black raspberry core with nuances of red roses, mocha, unsmoked cigars, camphor and tilled soil. Full-bodied and fabulously decadent in the mouth, the palate reveals a very firm, very plush frame with loads of perfumed layers and an epically long, fragrant finish. JD 98 (1/2020): The 2015 Proprietary Red is made in a more opulent, sexy style and boasts a huge array of blackcurrants, Christmas fruitcake, chocolate, and Asian spices. Reminding me of the 2015 Mouton-Rothschild with its exuberant, full-bodied, extroverted personality, it still stays perfectly balanced, has sweet, polished tannins, ample mid-palate depth, and a finish that won’t quit. This is a brilliant, singular wine that can be enjoyed today with incredible pleasure or cellared for 30 years or more. VM 97 (12/2018): The 2015 Sloan is a powerful, dramatic wine endowed with tremendous textural depth. A rush of blackberry jam, grilled herbs, leather and licorice builds as this flamboyant wine shows off its alluring personality. Even with all of its obvious intensity, the 2015 possesses a good deal of freshness and structure. It is a tremendous wine by any measure. Antonio Galloni. |
