JS 94 (9/2020): So beautiful to smell with subtle dried flowers, ripe strawberries, cedar and sandalwood. Medium-to full-bodied with tight, chewy tannins that are fine-grained and firm. Succulent acidity at the finish for such a ripe year. Give this three to four years to come together. Better after 2022. VM 93+ (10/2020): The 2017 Barbaresco Roncaglie is fresh, aromatic and light on its feet. There is a sense of purity to the red berry fruit that is striking. I imagine slightly nervy tannins from a year with uneven ripening will always remain, and yet this classically built, translucent Barbaresco from the Colla family is undeniably alluring. Give it a few years to soften. Antonio Galloni. |

VM 93 (12/2007): Poderi Colla has produced a big, masculine wine with its 2004 Barolo Bussia Dardi/Le Rose. Huge, brooding aromas of scorched earth, spices and tobacco lead to rich, complex layers of dried figs, plums and prunes that gradually open on the palate. This impressively endowed, exciting Barolo closes with a long, sweet finish, yet it needs a minimum of a few years of bottle age to fully come together. Fermentation takes place in cement, where the wine remains until the Spring, when it is racked into a medium and large casks of various sizes. (Drink between 2014-2026). Antonio Galloni. |

VM 94+ (10/2021): The 2017 Barolo Bussia Dardi Le Rose is superb. Classy and poised, the 2017 captures all the personality of Bussia. The Colla Barolos typically need a few years to shine. I imagine that will be the case here as well. As attractive as the 2017 is today, the best is yet to come. Crushed flowers, spice, sweet pipe tobacco and incense lend considerable nuance to a core of sweet Nebbiolo fruit. What a pretty wine this is. Antonio Galloni. |
