JD 90-92 (12/2022): The 2021 Saint Joseph L'Olivaie is rock-solid, offering pretty darker cherry and fresh fig-like notes as well as spice, game, and flowery incense nuances. This medium-bodied, supple, nicely balanced, and textured effort has outstanding potential and will certainly drink nicely right out of the gate. |

VM 91 (1/2025): The 2022 Saint-Joseph L'Olivaie mixes leafy accents with graphite, black cherry and a touch of cedar on the elegant aromatic profile. Medium-bodied, round and refreshing, the 2022 is a delicious Saint-Joseph that’s already starting to drink well. Drink between 2025-2030. Nicolas Greinacher. JD 91-93 (3/2024): Cassis, liquid violets, ground pepper, and an undeniable sense of minerality emerge from the 2022 Saint Joseph L'Olivaie, a medium to full-bodied, pure, beautifully balanced Saint Joseph that has fine tannins and a solid spine of acidity. It's beautifully done. |

VM 96 (12/2022): Vivid purple. Powerful, smoke- and spice-accented blackberry, cherry-cola and violet aromas show excellent delineation and pick up olive and allspice notes with aeration. Sweet and broad in the mouth, offering deeply concentrated dark berry liqueur, vanilla, smoked meat and floral pastille flavors and a suggestion of exotic spices. The impressively long finish features bright mineral and floral notes and velvety, even tannins that sneak in late. Two-thirds whole clusters and about 10% new oak. Josh Raynolds. JS 95 (2/2022): Very pure forest-berry and violet aromas. Beautiful interplay of sweet fruit and generous, fine tannins, plus delicate spice make this a stunning St.-Joseph. Very graceful with a long, refined finish that pulls you back for more of this masterpiece. Sustainable. Drink or hold. JD 93-95+ (2/2022): The flagship from this estate, the 2020 Saint Joseph Le Paradis Saint Pierre comes from a single parcel of old vines and granite soils and will spend 15 months in demi-muids. It's always the most granite-influenced wine in the lineup, and the 2020 has a deep purple hue as well as a tight, focused, mineral-drenched style in its ripe black and blue fruits as well as peppery herbs, violet, and smoked game-like aromas and flavors. I love its overall balance, and it has plenty of structure and a great finish, as well as the focused, elegant style of the vintage. It's going to benefit from 4-5 years of bottle age and keep for 15+. |

VM 93 (1/2025): The deep purple-hued 2022 Saint-Joseph Le Paradis Saint-Pierre introduces itself with a marked leafy streak paired with alluring raspberry jam, graphite, crushed violets and a touch of cedar. Medium- to full-bodied, structured and layered, the ambitious 2022 achieves ample energy and checks out with drive on the savory finale. That said, it needs at least two more years in a cool cellar to fully come together. Drink between 2027-2038. Nicolas Greinacher. JD 92-94 (3/2024): The flagship 2022 Saint Joseph Le Paradis Saint Pierre comes from a single parcel of vines and pure granite soils. Cassis, smoked meats, crushed stone, and peppery, bouquet garni-like notes all shine in this powerful, concentrated, beautifully balanced Saint Joseph, which has ripe, velvety tannins and a good sense of freshness. It's ripe yet stays vibrant and light on its feet. |

VM 96 (12/2022): Saturated ruby. Deeply pitched blackberry, cherry-cola, cassis, vanilla and pungent floral qualities on the intensely perfumed, mineral-accented nose. Sappy and densely packed yet energetic as well, offering kirsch, dark berry preserve, mocha, licorice and candied violet flavors and a hint of salty olive. Shows superb clarity, a repeating vanilla note and an emphatic mineral lift on a youthfully tannic finish that hangs on with strong, dark fruit-driven persistence. Josh Raynolds. JD 95 (12/2022): One of the flagships from this estate, the 2020 Saint Joseph La Sensonne is 100% Syrah from old vines, aged entirely in new barrels. Its deep purple hue is followed by a great nose of smoked meats, violets, ground pepper, and both cassis and blackberry-like fruits. With full-bodied richness, a round, layered mouthfeel, background oak, and a great finish, this tour de force from Saint Joseph is more Hermitage than Saint Joseph. It will keep for 10-15 years in cold cellars. JS 94 (2/2022): Full-on smoked-bacon and dry-earth aromas are married to a slew of forest berries and damson plums. Excellent balance of generous fruit and plush tannins on the full body. The tannins build to a crescendo at the long, complete finish. Sustainable. Drinkable now, but best from 2024. WA 94-96 (1/2022): Jerôme Coursodon was not entirely sure this barrel and its neighbors would be bottled on their own as the 2020 Saint Joseph la Sensonne, but he indicated there was a strong possibility. Sourced from old vines, matured entirely in new oak from Taransaud (in this case) and Chassin, this cuvée features strong overtones of toast and mocha, but there is also plenty of cherry fruit. Full-bodied, rich and velvety, with tremendous length and vibrancy on the finish, it looks to be another hugely successful wine from this family estate in Mauves. |

VM 92 (1/2025): The blockbuster-styled 2022 Saint-Joseph La Sensonne is loaded with intense wood smoke, clove, ripe black fruit and licorice tones. Medium- to full-bodied and concentrated, the 2022 will benefit from more time in bottle. Bold and savory, it walks off the stage with persistence on the structured finish. Drink between 2026-2037. Nicolas Greinacher. JD 93-95+ (3/2024): The 2022 Saint Joseph La Sensonne is always a slightly more modern style effort and see some new barrels, although I never feel it loses its classic character. It has a killer perfume of cassis and darker currants that give way to beautiful graphite, scorched earth, violets, and spicy wood nuances. This beauty is medium to full-bodied, has textbook Saint Joseph minerality, fine yet building tannins, and a great, great finish. This is one to seek out. |

VM 93 (12/2022): Saturated violet color. Displays fresh-mineral-accented aromas of fresh red and blue fruits and candied flowers, with hints of savory herbs and black pepper in the background. Juicy and lithe on the palate, offering appealingly sweet cherry and boysenberry flavors and a touch of licorice. Finishes long and smooth, with resonating red fruit character and round, even tannins that come on late. Josh Raynolds. JD 91 (12/2022): A great introduction to the wines of this terrific vigneron, the 2020 Saint Joseph Silice has classic darker berry fruits as well as peppery herbs, violets, and some obvious minerality on both the nose and palate. These carry to a medium-bodied effort with good acidity, firm yet ripe tannins, and outstanding length. WS 91 (5/2022): Delivers vivid blackberry, violet and ripe plum flavors that are up front and generous on the palate, hemmed in by a savory vein of mineral and crushed graphite. Supple and tasty, this has a gentle frame, with dried thyme, incense and singed apple wood notes on the medium-length finish. Delicious now and will continue to evolve beautifully. Drink now through 2027. 750 cases made, 150 cases imported. JS 91 (2/2022): An interesting nose of blackberries and blueberries with some graphite and leather adding interest. Robust structure for a St.-Joseph with plenty of pepper and spice, but the fruit is more than adequate to carry all this. Good length, if not tremendously complex. Sustainable. Drinkable now, but best from 2023. |

It should shine right out of the gate, yet given its overall balance and purity, also evolve for 15 years. |
