JD 98 (5/2023): Another killer wine, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Las Piedras Vineyard La BAM sports a dense purple hue as well as mineral-driven aromatics of black fruits, graphite, liquid violets, and crushed stone. It's full-bodied and has flawless balance, fine-grained tannins, and a stunning finish. This has closed up slightly since release, and while it clearly offers pleasure today, it's going to benefit from another 3-5 years of bottle age. (Drink starting 2026). VM 95 (1/2021): The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Las Piedras Vineyard La Bam marries the natural power of this site with rich, dense fruit that nearly buries the tannins. Macerated red cherry, cinnamon, leather, spice and rose petal build in a bold, sumptuous Cabernet endowed with terrific persistence and tons of underlying structure. La Bam shows the more sensual, curvy side of the year. (Drink between 2024-2038). Antonio Galloni. WA 95 (11/2020): The deep garnet-purple colored 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Las Piedras Vineyard La Bam is a little closed and broody to begin, slowly opening to offer glimpses at earthy notes of tar, tilled soil and black truffles over a core of crème de cassis, cast-iron pan, baked blackberries, sautéed herbs and fruitcake plus a touch of espresso. Full-bodied, the palate has a rugged frame of grainy tannins and just enough freshness supporting the concentrated, muscular fruit, finishing long and savory. |

La Verdad Beckstoffer Las Piedras Vyd. Cabernet Sauvignon |
$199 |

|
JD 97+ (5/2023): Similar to when it was released, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Las Piedras Vineyard La Verdad is loaded with ripe blue fruits, chocolate, violets, spice, and camphor notes, and it picks up a bloody, iron-like nuance with time in the glass. With full-bodied richness and a ripe, powerful, yet structured mouthfeel, it shows the purity, focus, and precision of the 2018 vintage while still bringing gorgeous depth and richness. As always, this is slightly more structured and inward compared to the more extroverted La BAM release. Give it 3-4 years, and it will evolve for 30 years or more. (Drink between 2026-2057). WA 96+ (11/2020): Sporting a deep garnet-purple color, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Las Piedras Vineyard La Verdad gives up compelling notes of fresh black and red currants, ripe black plums, wild blueberries and cedar chest with wafts of oolong tea, charcoal and Indian spices plus a fragrant suggestion of lavender. The densely laden, full-bodied palate is jam-packed with black and blue fruit preserves, featuring a firm, grainy-textured backbone and just enough freshness, finishing long and perfumed. VM 94+ (1/2021): The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Las Piedras Vineyard La Verdad is a powerhouse. Huge tannins wrap around a core of blackberry jam, spice, chocolate, espresso, menthol and licorice in a brooding, dark wine endowed with tremendous concentration and intensity and the searing tannins to match. (Drink between 2024-2038). Antonio Galloni. |

The G.T.O. Beckstoffer To Kalon Vyd. Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5 L) |
$575 |

JD 99 (5/2023): Lastly, and I think the star of the show in 2014, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard The G.T.O. (which included some Clone 6 Cabernet Sauvignon for the first time) is a bigger, richer, more powerful wine offering pure cassis and currant fruits, some leafy herb, tobacco, chocolate, and Pauillac-like lead pencil nuances, a stacked mid-palate, ultra-fine tannins, and a thrilling finish. As with the other 2014s here, it's drinking brilliantly today and is going to have 20-30 years of overall longevity. WA 96+ (12/2016): The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon The G.T.O. is a tiny lot of 25 cases, in magnum only. An intense wine with almost the essence of blackberry and cassis intermixed with charcoal, scorched earth, fruitcake and tobacco leaf. Great opulence on the attack, terrific velvety tannins and a long, layered finish make for a spectacular wine and another great example of this phenomenal Napa Valley vineyard. Drink it over the next 25-30 years. |

The Grand Daddy Beckstoffer To Kalon Vyd. Cabernet Sauvignon |
$259 |

|
JD 97 (5/2023): As always, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard The Grand Daddy comes from a parcel of Clone 4 Cabernet Sauvignon. It has a pretty, pure, full-bodied, balanced profile as well as beautiful aromatics of ripe plums, cassis, spice, and flowery incense. The tannins are perfectly ripe, and it has a great finish, with no hard edges. This fabulous To Kalon Cabernet Sauvignon will evolve for another three decades. WA 98+ (10/2018): Very deep purple-black in color, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard The Grand Daddy comes charging out of the glass with gregarious scents of blackberry pie, warm cassis, black raspberries and Black Forest cake plus hints of camphor, cigar box, pencil lead and incense. Full-bodied, super intense and opulently fruited in the mouth, it delivers a powerful black fruit core with a firm yet plush frame and very long, multilayered finish. VM 95+ (12/2018): A big, structured wine, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard The Grand Daddy is going to need a number of years to come into its own, as the tannins are forbidding. Iron, smoke, savory herb, tobacco and leather are backed up by beams of supporting structure. This backward, reticent Cabernet Sauvignon will require patience. Antonio Galloni. |

JD 98+ (12/2017): Coming from red volcanic soils located just above Backus Vineyard in Oakville, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Weitz Vineyard is undeniably mountain fruit and has a fresh, focused, chiseled style as well as incredible complexity in its black and blue fruits, incense, Asian spice, graphite, and ample crushed rock-like minerality. This beautifully complete, impeccably balanced beauty needs 3-4 years of bottle age yet will keep for 2-3 decades. Mike Carter and winemaker Mike Smith continue to make a bevy of hedonistic, sexy, powerful wines from throughout Napa Valley. These 2015s are all brilliant wines, yet quantities are tiny due to the dismal yields. WA 95+ (10/2017): Deep purple-black in color, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Weitz Vineyard has a decadent nose of plum preserves, blueberry compote and dried mulberries with touches of Indian spices, sandalwood, lavender and cloves. Full-bodied, soft, sexy and seductive with its come-hither spicy berry preserves layers and plush tannins, it finishes on a persistent exotic spice note. VM 94 (1/2018): A rush of super-ripe dark cherry, lavender, chocolate, new French oak, violet, plum and smoke makes a strong opening statement in the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Weitz Vineyard. Unctuous and concentrated in the glass, the 2015 exudes richness in all of its dimensions. This is a very representative wine from Oakville's sundrenched Upper Plateau. Antonio Galloni. |

WA 95 (10/2018): Very deep purple-black in color, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Weitz Vineyard opens with notions of baked blackcurrants, preserved plums, blackberry compote and licorice plus touches of tar, chargrill, pan fried herbs and iron ore. Full-bodied and laden with taut, muscular fruit, it has a solid line of grainy tannins and just enough freshness, finishing with an herbal lift. |
