VM 99 (10/2021): A tiny production of 74 cases, the 2018 Graciano is an absolutely stunning wine. Inky and deep, with huge tannins, the 2018 is packed with inky dark fruit, chocolate, licorice and spice. Readers will have to be patient, as the 2018 is a real powerhouse. The 2018 was done with 35% stems and aged in French oak, 33% new. Readers who can find it should not hesitate, as it is a magical, thrilling wine. Antonio Galloni. JD 98 (8/2021): The 2018 Graciano (there’s 5% Petite Sirah, 3% Syrah, and 2% Viognier) is another masterpiece. Full-bodied aromas and flavors of blueberries, wild strawberries, ground pepper, leather, violets, and even some gamey nuances define this incredible wine, and it has building tannins, a ripe, layered texture, and remarkable purity. It should have 15+ years of prime drinking. This cuvée comes 100% from the Third Twin Vineyard, was 65% destemmed, and spent 27 months in one-third new barrels. |

JD 97-99 (8/2022): There are a tiny 74 cases of the 2019 Graciano, but this cuvée will grow in quantity going forward. Based on 90% Graciano, 6% Petite Sirah, and 4% Syrah that saw 32% stems, it's a beastie of a wine sporting a dense purple hue, incredible notes of blue fruits, wild strawberries, candied violets, cigar, pepper, and leather, full-bodied richness, ultra-fine tannins, and good acidity, which is the hallmark of this variety. This ripe, powerful, balanced, singular wine will evolve for two decades. WA 97-99 (5/2022): The Spanish variety Graciano is relatively rare in California, and this 2019 Graciano comes from just 1.33 acres planted in 2011 in pure sand in The Third Twin estate vineyard. It was still in barrel when I tasted it on May 24, 2022, due to be bottled shortly thereafter, in June 2022. If there is such a thing as an archetypal Californian Graciano, this 2019 has got to be it—it's a kaleidoscope of hedonistic fruit and spice. Blended with small amounts of Petite Sirah and Syrah, it was made with 32% whole clusters and matured for about 32 months in 57% new French oak. Opaque purple-black in color, it explodes with scents of boysenberry and blueberry, violets, coffee beans, tar, sage and thyme, shifting continually as it airs in the glass. The palate offers that rare combination of concentration and weightlessness thanks to its notably juicy acidity and silky texture, and it boasts a tremendously persistent, layered finish. "I feel like Graciano is more akin to Grenache," Krankl notes. "It ripens late, and it has to be very ripe or it's not interesting at all. But it has good acidity, even if you harvest it late." Just 74 cases will be released in the spring of 2023. VM 97-99 (8/2022): The 2019 Graciano is stunning. Deep, plush and explosive, the 2019 possesses remarkable intensity in every dimension. Black fruit, licorice, spice, chocolate and incense infuse the 2019 with striking textural resonance. The 2019 Graciano is one of the very finest wines I have ever tasted from Elaine and Manfred Krankl. Sadly, there are just 74 cases to go around. Antonio Galloni. |

JD 98+ (8/2023): Based on 88% Graciano and 12% Syrah, the inky hued 2020 Graciano saw 47% whole cluster and spent 33.5 months in 72% new Frnech oak. It has a full-bodied, tannic, structured style and gorgeous ripe black cherry and plum fruits as well as ground pepper, new leather, scorched earth and hints of iron. Deep, rich, and massively concentrated, with lots of tannins, this behemoth of a Graciano that needs 4-5 years of bottle age and will knock your socks off over the following 20 years. Drink between 2027-2048. VM 98 (9/2023): The 2020 Graciano is fabulous. Dark, dense and explosive, the Graciano is once again superb in 2020. Bacon fat, plum, black cherry, gravel, sage and menthol infuse the 2020 with tremendous character as well as nuance. What a wine. I love the energy here. Sadly, production is tiny. The blend in 88% Graciano and 12% Syrah, done with 47% stems and aged for about 34 months in barrel, 72% new. I would but every bottle I can get my hands on! Drink between 2025-2038. Antonio Galloni. |

VM 100 (8/2024): What a wine. Vibrant and dense, with stunning balance, the 2021 is spectacularly vivid from start to finish. All the elements are so harmonious. Inky dark red/purplish fruit, pomegranate, spice, blood orange and leather saturate the palate while salivating acids extend the finish. I have tasted many magnificent wines with Elaine and Mnafred Krankl over the years- their 2021 Graciano is, without question, one of the most memorable. The blend is 87% Graciano, 10% Syrah, 3% Viognier, done with 48% stems and aged for around 33 months in French oak (36% new). Don't miss it! Drink between 2025-2036. Antonio Galloni. |

WA 98+ (8/2020): This is the second edition of this single-vineyard cuvee from The Third Twin estate in Los Alamos, as a follow-up to last year’s “Nuestra Senora Del Tercer Gemelo,” but this time the core of the blend is Grenache as opposed to Mourvèdre. Due to a possible trademark dispute, this wine may get a name change prior to release, potentially to be called, “The Other Lady.” The small proportion of Viognier in this blend was co-fermented with red grapes, but interestingly, because it ripens earlier than the reds, the white berries were frozen and added to the reds at the time of fermentation. As an added bonus, these frozen grapes help to cool and, therefore, slow the fermentation. This wine was recently bottled, on May 22, 2020, after spending 32 months in French oak, 12% new. JD 98 (8/2020): Coming from the more sandy soils of the estate The Third Twin Vineyard and just bottled, the 2017 The Other Lady TBD checks in as 42% Grenache, 17% Mourvèdre, 15% Petite Sirah, 12% Graciano, 11.5% Syrah, and the final 2.5% Viognier. It saw just a touch of stems (18%) and spent 32 months in just 12% new French oak. Deep purple/blue, it offers a stunning bouquet of blueberries, black cherries, bay leaf, smoked game, pepper, and violets. Rich, full-bodied, and beautifully concentrated on the palate, with ripe tannins, it shows the more focused, structured style of the vintage beautifully and is going to be long lived. VM 94-96 (8/2020): An explosion of floral and spice notes lifts from the 2017 Nuestra Señora del Tercer Gemelo. Crushed red berries, flowers, mint and cinnamon give the 2017 striking aromatic intensity to match its mid-weight personality. Silky tannins and lifted aromatics add to a feeling of weightlessness in this very pretty, nuanced wine. The blend is 42% Grenache, 17% Mourvèdre, 15% Petite Sirah, 12% Graciano, 11.5% Syrah and 2.5% Viognier, using 18% whole clusters. Aging of around 32 months was done in mostly used oak, with 12% new wood. Antonio Galloni. |

JD 98 (10/2019): The 2016 Nuestra Senora Del Tercer Gemelo, named after Our Lady of Guadalupe, is based on 53% Mourvèdre, 16% Syrah, 14% Grenache, and the rest Petite Sirah, Graciano, and Viognier, aged 31 months in 42% new French oak. It boasts a huge, powerful bouquet of ripe currants, white chocolate, white pepper, and graphite. This carries to a full-bodied wine that shows more Mourvèdre spice and meaty notes with time in the glass, has a stacked mid-palate, and a blockbuster finish. This is a big, rich wine yet, like everything from the Krankls, it stays incredibly balanced and weightless. Mourvèdre can shut down quickly, so I’d lean toward trying bottles on release or giving then a good 4-5 years in the cellar. |

JD 98+ (8/2022): The 2019 Nuestra Senora Del Tercer Gemelo comes from the Third Twin estate vineyard, which was purchased in 2000. At that time, the vineyard covered 14.33 acres planted to Syrah and Petite Sirah, and the Krankls planted a mix of different varieties starting in 2011. Today, the estate covers just over 35 acres, and this is a cooler, sandy terroir. The wine sports a deep purple hue as well as a monster bouquet of blackberries, Italian leather, dried herbs, smoke tobacco, and pepper. Full-bodied on the palate, it's another seamless, perfectly balanced red from this team that somehow manages to bring incredible richness and power while staying flawlessly balanced and elegance. A blend of 33% Grenache, 23.5% Syrah, 19% each of Mourvèdre and Petite Sirah, and the rest Graciano and Muscat, fermented with 19% whole clusters, it shows the more elegant, refined, silky style of this terroir beautifully. I like it today, but smart money will give bottles 2-4 years in the cellar. It should have 15-20 years of overall longevity. |

WA 98+ (8/2021): Deep purple-black colored, the glass needed a fair bit of swirling to unlock this wine’s wonderfully pure scents of baked black plums, blackberry pie and boysenberries, leading to an undercurrent of fruitcake, Indian spices, unsmoked cigars and cracked black pepper. The full-bodied palate is a powerhouse of fruit, bursting with black berry preserves and exotic spice layers, framed with a solid line of firm, ripe tannins and wonderful freshness, finishing with incredible persistence and purity. This beautiful monster of a wine should be pretty much indestructible, capable of cellaring for 40+ years. Drink between 2026-2061. VM 96 (8/2024): The 2021 Nuestra Senora del Tercer Gemelo offers a capitvating mix of opulent fruit and energy, all framed by judicious French oak and silky tannins. A dense, full-bodied wine, the Nuestra Senora has so much to offer, starting with its immediacy. This full-throttle red is undeniably glorious. The blend is 57% Mourvedre, 14% Grenache, 14% Graciano, 14% Syrah, and 1% Viognier, done with 33% stems. It spent 31 months in French oak, 31% new. Drink between 2025-2036. Antonio Galloni. |
