| JD 94 (1/2018): The 2015 Côte Rôtie Côte Blonde is a richer, sexier wine based on 95% Syrah and 5% Viognier. This cuvée is fermented with 100% whole clusters and is aged 24-36 months in demi-muids. Black raspberries, spice, chocolate and peppered meat notions flow to a rich, textured, beautifully concentrated, voluptuous Côte Rôtie that has present tannin, solid balance and a great finish. It’s a beautiful wine that delivers the goods. This traditionally run, family estate pulls mostly from the Côte Brune side of Côte Rôtie. The wines are made by the young Julien Barge, with assistance from his father, Gilles Barge. These latest wines are the finest I’ve tasted from this estate. (Drink between 2018-2038) |

| WA 92 (12/2015): A step up over the Côte Blonde release, the 2013 Côte Rôtie Cote Brune was similarly not destemmed and saw 5% Viognier in the blend. Aged 30 months in 600-liter, two- to five-year-old barrels, it has gorgeous minerality in its dark fruits, smoked herbs, wild herbs and olive tapenade bouquet. This carries to a medium plus-bodied Côte Rôtie that has a killer mid-palate, a beautiful texture and sweet tannin that frame the finish. Drink this high class Côte Rôtie anytime over the coming 10-15 years. |
