NM 92 (3/2011): Tasted blind at Bordeaux Index’s 10-Year On horizontal. This has a very Pauillac-style, mineral rich bouquet with touches of brine, cedar and pine. Great definition. The palate is medium-bodied with fine definition, gentle but insistent grip with a very cohesive finish with a pointed citric thread that lends it such tension and freshness. This is a superb wine. WS 91 (3/2004): Loads of blackberry and tobacco on the nose and palate. Full-bodied, with velvety tannins and a long finish. Serious concentration for the vintage, yet Outstanding finesse. I like this as much as the 2000. Best after 2008. 11,665 cases made. WA 89 (6/2004): This pure, elegant Margaux offers intensely fragrant aromas of melted licorice, black currants, and smoked herbs in a medium-bodied, deep ruby/purple-colored style. A classic Margaux with good purity, but not the size, depth, or power of the 2000, it is a finesse-styled effort with impressive balance. Anticipated maturity: 2006-2014. VM 87-90 (6/2002): (a blend of 50% merlot, 40% cabernet sauvignon and 10% cabernet franc) Medium ruby. Ripe aromas of plum syrup, blackberry, cassis, licorice and bitter chocolate. Sweet, silky and pliant, with a rather full texture and moderate dimension. Finishes with substantial but fine tannins. In a very supple style. |

WA 92-94 (4/2019): The 2018 Brane-Cantenac is deep garnet-purple in color and delivers expressive black cherry compote, blueberry coulis and crème de cassis scents with suggestions of cigar box, Provence herbs and lavender. Full-bodied with mouth-filling, rich black fruit preserves, it has a velvety texture and a long, perfumed finish. VM 92-95 (5/2019): The 2018 Brane-Cantenac captures all of the natural richness of the year. Ample, creamy and resonant, the 2018 offers quite a bit of intensity while retaining its mid-weight sense of structure. Dark red cherry, mint, spice, and dried rose petals are some of the signatures. Even with its obvious volume the 2018 retains lovely aromatic freshness and nuance. The 2018 is an especially juicy, open-knit Brane-Cantenac. Grilled herbs, menthol, spice and anise add an attractive upper-register to the perfumed finish. The blend is 74% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot. Tasted three times. Antonio Galloni. JD 94-96+ (5/2019): The grand vin 2018 Château Brane-Cantenac checks in as 74% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot, and the balance Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot that fermented in wooden tanks and saw malolactic fermentation and aging in 70% new French oak. It's a beautifully layered, sexy beauty loaded with notions of blackcurrants, spicy oak, camphor, and dried tobacco. Medium to full-bodied, balanced, and layered on the palate, it has a seamless texture, sweet tannin, remarkable freshness and purity, and a great finish. Count me in as a fan. This is another irresistible 2018 that should be snatched up by readers. It will keep for 25-30 years. JS 95-96 (4/2019): What strikes me about this Brane-Cantenac is the gorgeous center palate of ripe fruit, which gives an impression of generosity, yet it’s tight and reserved at the same time. Fine and polished tannins follow on and drive this gorgeous fruit. |

VM 94-96 (6/2020): The 2019 Brane-Cantenac was cropped at 50hl/ha between 18 September and 9 October. Matured entirely in new oak, it is in possession of an almost pixelated bouquet with beguiling blackberry, bilberry and crushed limestone aromas. I find this less austere than some vintages of Brane-Cantenac at this prenatal stage. The palate is silky smooth on the entry with filigree tannins, very harmonious, not a deep or powerful Margaux, yet very delineated. There is that signature touch of greenness that I often find on Brane-Cantenac on the finish, though I have learned through experience that this is assimilated with bottle age, so have a cool cellar handy. Excellent. Neal Martin. JD 93-95+ (6/2020): The grand vin 2019 Château Brane-Cantenac takes it up a notch, revealing a deeper, saturated purple color, gorgeous notes of cassis, new leather, cedar pencil, and flowers, medium to full-bodied richness, and the elegance and purity that are the defining features of the vintage. It's almost already hard to resist, with beautiful balance and purity, yet still has solid underlying tannins. Again, the balance here is brilliant. JS 93-94 (6/2020): This shows exotic aromas of blackberries, wet earth, chocolate and fresh basil leaves. It’s full-bodied with round, creamy tannins and a flavorful finish. Intriguing and real on the palate. |
