JS 94 (10/2019): Lots of blueberry and blackberry aromas and flavors. Tar, too. Full body. Round, polished tannins and a solid, chewy finish. A cabernet sauvignon-based Bordeaux blend that shows integrity for the vintage. Better after 2021.
JD 92 (1/2020): Based largely on Cabernet Sauvignon yet blended with Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Malbec, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon The Puzzle offers a saturated purple color to go with a big, smoky nose of black fruits, dark chocolate, violets, and graphite. Nicely textured, full-bodied, and polished on the palate, with good tannins, it's a terrific wine in this vintage that will keep for 15+ years or more. |

| JD 92 (2/2023): The 2019 Red Blend The Puzzle checks in as mostly Cabernet Sauvignon but includes 8% Cabernet Franc, 7% Merlot, and 1.5% each of Malbec and Petit Verdot. This vivid blue-hued 2019 has a great nose of both black and blue fruits as well as sappy green herbs and crushed stone. Almost austere on the palate, it’s medium to full-bodied, has firm tannins, good mid-palate depth, and outstanding length. I’d give bottles at least 3-4 years in the cellar. (Drink starting 2026). |
