BH 86-88 (1/2023): A fresh and quite peppery nose speaks mostly of red currant and earth. The delicious and wonderfully vibrant lighter weight flavors possess fine definition on the lingering finale that just makes one feel like drinking it. This is built on its fruit but no less interesting for it. Drink starting 2023. VM 85-87 (1/2023): The 2021 Bourgogne Rouge, which had been racked into tank the previous week, has a gentle bouquet that unfolds in the glass, with blackberry and mulberry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with a sappy entry, fine acidity, plus a sour cherry/prune note on the finish. Fine. Drink starting 2024-2030. Neal Martin. |

| BH 88 (3/2023): This is sufficiently reduced to require a thorough aeration though it's clear that the fruit is decidedly ripe and dark in character. There is reasonably good energy to the rich and relatively robust middle weight flavors that avoid rusticity on the firm and still mildly austere finale. While this could be drunk young, it should definitely benefit from at least some forbearance. |

BH 89-92 (1/2022): Once again there is lovely freshness to the cool and airy aromas of red cherry, dark raspberry and spice. I very much like the texture of the mineral-driven, chiseled and vibrant medium-bodied flavors that culminate in a dusty bitter pit fruit-inflected finish that offers excellent depth and persistence for a villages-level wine. One to strongly consider. VM 90-92 (12/2021): The 2020 Chambolle-Musigny Village has a vivid bouquet with red cherries, cranberry and violet scents, actually, quite Vosne-like in personality. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, fine acidity, quite poised and tense with a dash of spice on the finish. This is a delicious Chambolle that should give 12-15 years' drinking pleasure. JM 89-92 (11/2021): Glowing black purple. A rich heady dense raspberry fruit, this has everything without being too exaggerated, some tannins some acidity, a wealth of powerful black raspberry fruit, trying to be floral too. WA 89-91 (1/2022): The 2020 Chambolle-Musigny Village wafts from the glass with aromas of cherries and raspberries mingled with warm spices and rose petals. Medium to full-bodied, rich and velvety, with lively acids, powdery tannins and a perfumed finish, it's seamless and complete. |

BH 90 (1/2013): A discreet touch of wood frames purple fruit and spice elements that precede the refined, very suave and velvety flavors that possess plenty of mouth coating dry extract on the clean, dry and persistent finish. This is lovely and very Charmes in character. Drink 2017+. WA 88-89 (2/2012): The 2010 Chambolle-Musginy Les Charmes flows across the palate with juicy raspberries, freshly cut flowers and mint, all supported by finessed, elegant tannins. It is a gorgeous Chambolle with tons of village and vineyard character. The delicate, feminine finish leaves a lasting impression. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2026. |

| BH 91 (1/2014): (from 30+ year old vines.) A discreet backdrop of wood frames the highly expressive airy, cool and ultra-pure red orchard fruit aromas that exhibit a lovely spicy character. The middle weight flavors display equally good purity with a round and supple texture before concluding in an unusually powerful finish in the context of what is typical for the appellation yet this is essentially a wine of silky, finesse and understatement. Drink 2018+. Outstanding! |

BH 92 (1/2015): Here the exuberant and wonderfully pure nose speaks of floral and both dark and red berry fruit aromas that display spicy top notes. There is good vibrancy and detail to the lilting and lacy middle weight flavors that exude a fine minerality on the balanced and saline-inflected finish. I very much like the seductive mouth feel as well as the fine complexity on the impressively persistent finish. Lovely juice. (Drink starting 2022). VM 91 (3/2015): Moderately saturated medium red. Ripe strawberry and raspberry aromas are complicated by underbrush and dried flowers. Sweet, supple and fine-grained, with the red fruit flavors nicely framed by bright, harmonious acidity and complicated by savory minerality. Finishes with subtle salinity and lovely balance. (Drink between 2019-2026). Stephen Tanzer. |

BH 94 (1/2012): (from two separate parcels, one to the left of the ChĂ¢teau and another situated to the right by the Meo-Camuzet vines). A moderately floral nose speaks of wood spice, pungent earth and freshly crushed red currant aromas that precede the big-bodied and powerful flavors that possess real verve on the well-defined, intense and balanced finish. This genuinely wonderful effort is relatively fine for a Clos de Vougeot and there is less youthful austerity than is typical. Drink 2021+. WA 91 (5/2011): The 2009 Clos de Vougeot is impressive. Fresh, floral aromatics meld into a core of silky red fruit. The Clos de Vougeot tannins are there, but beautifully balanced by the textured, persistent fruit. The finish is feminine, persistent and impeccable in its elegance. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2029. VM 89 (4/2012): Medium red. Reticent aromas of diffuse red fruits, brown spices and smoky minerality. Brighter in the mouth, with a saline quality to the slightly medicinal flavors of red cherry, strawberry and dried flowers. Not a particularly opulent or fleshy style. Finishes with an edge of acidity and a note of fresh herbs. |

BH 92-94 (1/2012): (from two separate parcels, one to the left of the ChĂ¢teau and another situated to the right by the Meo-Camuzet vines; the 2010 was vinified with about 10% whole clusters). A very mild floral hint adds elegance to the ripe red berry fruit and distinctly earth-inflected nose. There is excellent richness to the impressively scaled and overtly powerful flavors that possess fine balance and focus on the lingering finish. Lovely juice with a bit less youthful austerity than I typically find with this wine. Drink 2022+ VM 92-94 (2/2012): Good bright red. Black cherry, menthol, licorice, coffee, mocha and violet on the nose, with a high note of blood orange. Then silky and dry in the mouth, with a wonderfully refined texture for a young Clos-Vougeot. Plenty of power here as well. Really spreads out to saturate the palate on the back end, finishing with a savory, subtle perfume and terrific tactile persistence. WA 91-93 (2/2012): The 2010 Clos de Vougeot is quite open and radiant at this stage. This is a totally gorgeous Clos de Vougeot that captures plenty of finesse with none of the austerity or angularity that can sometimes plague wines from this site. A pointed, mineral-drenched finish balances the wine beautifully. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2030. |

| BH 90-93 (1/2015): Reduction is sufficiently strong so as to render the nose impossible to evaluate. There is excellent size, weight and density to the medium-bodied flavors that possess a really lovely mouth feel thanks to the abundant dry extract as well as the quality of the tannins which are finer than usual. Even so the Nuits roots are in evidence as the lingering finish does display a touch of rusticity as well as an interesting hint of blood orange. This is well worth considering provided that you have at least a modicum of patience. Drink 2023+. |

| BH 90-93 (1/2017): Moderate wood influence isn't really enough to detract from the attractively fresh aromas of notably ripe black cherry, raspberry and newly turned earth. BH 92 (1/2020): A restrained and beautifully fresh nose offers up notes of red and dark currant, violet, earth and a hint of wood toast. There is good muscle, punch and power to the middle weight flavors that exude a fine bead of minerality on the beautifully persistent if youthfully austere and well-detailed finish. This is a blend of power and refinement as the supporting tannins are admirably fine-grained. VM 92 (1/2020): The 2017 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Murgers 1er Cru offers dark cherry, black tea, sous-bois and traces of truffle on a nose that opens nicely with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy red fruit (cranberry and raspberry) and lightly spiced with orange peel and even hints of marmalade toward the firm, quite "serious" finish. Good potential. Neal Martin. WA 92 (1/2020): The 2017 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Murgers is open and demonstrative, bursting with aromas of cherries, red berries and plums mingled with savory notes of grilled game and raw cocoa. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, succulent and charming, with a generous core of fruit and melting tannins. |

| BH 91-94 (1/2002): The hallmark of this wine is its superb balance as everything is in perfect harmony. This is fantastically spicy yet pure and is bigger and more powerful than the Romanee St. Vivant and for young Richebourg is really quite refined. This so fine that the volume of wine behind the flavors almost goes unnoticed. An extremely impressive effort for the vintage. Don't miss! Drink 2007-15. |

VM 96+ (3/2013): (13.8% alcohol "with a bit of chaptalization," according to winemaker Charles Van Canneyt): Deep, full red. Very recent but pure nose eventually reveals scents of musky wild red fruits and smoky, stony minerality; a real essence of Burgundy. Deep and thick on the palate; dense with extract and utterly smooth too but with explosive energy suggesting that this wine will repay long aging. Finishes with Outstanding rising smoky persistence and powerful stony minerality. These 2010s, bottled in February of 2012, display extraordinary digestibility. Stephen Tanzer. BH 95 (1/2013): (from vines that abut those of the Domaine de la Romanee-Conti in Richebourg proper.) Here the reduction is present also but at least there is some spiciness in evidence. There is excellent richness and muscle to the big-bodied and impressively vibrant medium weight plus flavors that possess fine mid-palate concentration before culminating in a palate staining and magnificently long finish. There is power here but overall this is more a Riche of elegance than brawn. I very much like the potential but caution compels me to point out that the reduction is a concern though again with this wine it seems less like a permanent problem. Drink 2025+. |

| BH 95 (1/2012): This also sports discreet wood influence on the intensely floral and kaleidoscopically spicy nose of blue berry and black cherry aromas that introduce rich, intense and naturally sweet middle weight flavors that are lacy, pure and almost delicate before culminating in a suave, explosive and magnificently long finish. This is just terrific and the balance is impeccable. Note however that like the 2010 version, the ultra-fine tannins are also quite dense and this will also require 15 years or so of cellar time before it will be ready for prime time. Drink 2024+. |

BH 91-93 (1/2011): This too is very Vosne in basic character with mild wood influence as well on the wonderfully spicy, cooler and more elegant blue and black berry fruit aromas cut with plenty of mineral influence that carries over to the rich, intense and vibrant middle weight flavors that are given shape and firmness by the fine tannins, all wrapped in a long finish that displays an abundance of underlying tension. Drink 2016+. Outstanding! WA 90 (5/2011): The 2009 Vosne-Romanee Les Beaux Monts reveals a pretty, mineral-laced personality. Red cherries, incense and spices are some of the notes that emerge from the glass. High-toned aromas add lift on the finish. This remains a touch compact; with a little more generosity and depth it might merit a higher score. The Beaux Monts is made from two parcels of fairly young vines; 6 and 15 years of age respectively. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2024. VM 90-92 (2/2011): Pale medium red. Much more reticent on the nose than the Suchots, hinting at red fruits, graphite and menthol. Then juicy and minerally in the mouth; less ripe and plump than the Suchots but more linear and sharply delineated today. Here the tannins are firmer and more visible today, but nicely ripe. |

WA 92-94 (2/2012): The 2010 Vosne-Romanee Les Beaux Monts blossoms on the palate with tons of class and finesse. I especially like the restrained style, but at the same time there is no shortage of personality and depth in this totally sexy, voluptuous Beaux Monts. Persistent saline notes lend brightness to the well-articulated finish. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2030. BH 91-93 (1/2012): This had just been racked and not surprisingly was quite closed though aggressive swirling coaxed grudging aromas of spice, wet stone and cassis. The pure and intensely mineral-inflected flavors are shaped by exceptionally fine-grained tannins as well as excellent length on the pure, balanced and energetic finish. This is a wine of finesse and while it's notably finer than the Suchots, it's not as complex or at least not yet. Drink 2018+. Outstanding! VM 91-94 (2/2012): (racked a week before my visit): Bright red. Very pure, high-pitched aromas of red fruits, flowers, blood orange and citrus zest. Silky, pretty and sharply delineated, but not showing its texture today. This intense, very pure wine really saturates the mouth with flavor and vibrates on the tangy finish. Notable more for its perfume than for its weight and finishes with very suave, fine-grained tannins. |

| VM 94 (6/2024): The 2012 Vosne-Romanée Les Beaumonts 1er Cru is showing wonderfully now. There's much more fruit than expected with red plum and raspberry coulis, just a hint of sous-bois and excellent delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with filigree tannins and a keen line of acidity. The 2012 is harmonious with a gentle grip towards the lightly spiced finish that lingers in the mouth. Superb. Tasted at Stannery Wines' producer tasting in London. (Drink between 2024-2040). Neal Martin. |

BH 93 (1/2012): A highly complex and very Vosne nose features mild wood influence along with abundant spice notes on the red currant, plum and black cherry fruit and violet suffused aromas that are very much in keeping with the rich, seductive and velvet-textured flavors that evidence controlled power. This is quite suave but there is fine definition, focus and excellent length. In a word, terrific. Drink 2019+. Outstanding! VM 93 (4/2012): Medium red. A step up in sappiness on the nose from the preceding samples, with notes of mint and orange zest lifting the aromas of cherry, raspberry and red licorice. Lush, suave and intense on the palate, with excellent inner-mouth tension to the red berry, mineral and spice flavors. Lovely fruit and energy here. The slowly mounting finish features thoroughly integrated tannins and very good focus for the year. A superb showing. WA 91 (5/2011): The 2009 Vosne-Romanee Les Suchots is a complex, engaging wine. It fills out beautifully on the mid-palate with generous dark fruit, spices, leather, licorice and tobacco. Soft and engaging through to the finish, the Suchots impresses for its fine balance and harmony. The vines in this parcel are 90 years old. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2024. |

VM 91 (11/2014): Bright medium red. Ripe, alluring aromas and flavors of wild strawberry, raspberry and earth. Sweet, fine-grained and enveloping, showing lovely energy and density and still holding its fruit in reserve. Finishes fresh and firm-edged, with full, fine-grained tannins and excellent length. (Drink between 2021-2031). Stephen Tanzer. BH 90? (1/2015): A spicy and notably ripe nose features aromas of dark pinot fruit, red currant, blood orange and an abundance of spice elements that include anise and sandalwood. There is an elegant mouth feel to the luscious and generously proportioned middle weight flavors that possess a velvety texture, all wrapped in a beautifully complex finish. If there is a concern though it's that this very firmly structured effort feels as though it may turn secondary relatively early in its evolution. As such I underscore my concern with a question mark because it will certainly require more than 8 years of bottle age to resolve the tannins yet the fruit may no longer be there. (Drink starting 2020). |

| BH 89-91 (1/2011): A lightly spiced and distinctly earthy nose of primary dark berry fruit aromas is followed by fleshy and impressively intense middle weight flavors that possess plenty of dry extract that buffers well the otherwise firm tannins on the persistent finish. This is not overly complex though there is enough material and development potential that it may eventually possess more. Drink 2015+. |

| BH 91 (1/2015): Soft wood sets off cool and pure aromas of airy red and blue pinot fruit and freshly turned earth scents. There is a touch of minerality to the ultra-fine middle weight flavors that possess good delineation on the lingering and balanced finish where a trace of austerity is in evidence. This is a classic Petits Vougeots of grace and refinement. (Drink starting 2020). |

| BH 89-91 (1/2015): An airy and elegant nose features aromas of black cherry, pomegranate and pretty violet hints. There is a very sleek and refined mouth feel to the lightly mineral-inflected medium weight flavors that possess good balance on the dusty if ever-so-slightly rustic finish. My sense is that the rusticity will eventually dissipate as this wine is normally quite fine. Drink 2020+. |

BH 91 (1/2021): A slightly cooler nose exhibits a fruit profile that derives more from the red side of the spectrum, and in particular cherry and pomegranate, though there are wisps of black raspberry, spice, lavender and rose petal in evidence. The sleek, elegant and refined medium weight flavors flash good minerality before concluding in a balanced, complex and sneaky long finale. This is lovely and the supporting tannins are quite fine-grained. (Drink starting 2026). VM 91 (12/2020): The 2018 Vougeot Les Petits Vougeot 1er Cru has an airy, well-defined bouquet of black currant, briar, crushed rock and light iris petal aromas, compact but nicely focused. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannins and quite succulent in the mouth, delivering licorice-tinged black fruit and a very harmonious, lightly spiced finish that lingers in the mouth. Very promising. (Drink between 2022-2036). Neal Martin. |
