| WA 89 (3/2018): The 1998 Le Pergole Torte offers strong floral notes and evident notes of oxidation. This vintage is not as full or generous as the 1997 expression. But it does show a graceful and silky disposition with rose hip and dried violets. This was a cool growing season that produced a compact and thinly textured mouthfeel as a result. If you have a bottle, I would not suggest waiting much longer. The 1998 vintage is nearing the end of its drinking window. |

VM 97 (1/2016): A real rockstar, the 2004 Le Pergole Torte is hard to taste in this vertical, as it is incredibly young and primary. The signature are there - expressive, soaring aromatics, silky tannins and superb persistence - but the 2004 needs at least a few years to show the full breadth of its personality. As always, the 2004 is lithe, delicate and gracious, with stunning harmony and purity. Today, the 2004 comes across as a slightly more refined version of the 2001, a vintage with which it has quite a bit in common. A few more years of cellaring will only help. The 2004 is a Pergole Torte of pure sensuality. What a wine! Antonio Galloni. WA 94 (3/2018): Skipping over the nonexistent 2005 vintage, our retrospective brought us to the dark and bold 2004 Le Pergole Torte. This wine still appears behind in its evolution. It was a bit closed and shut down from an aromatic point of view. Nothing too bad, but you notice this in the context of the other vintages presented here together. The bouquet shows dark mineral notes of campfire ash and crushed granite with dried berry and crushed peppercorn at the back. There is an inner spiciness to the flavor profile. The mouthfeel is rich and fuller in body compared to most of the other recent vintages. Firm tannins play an important role. |

| VM 97 (2/2019): The 2015 Le Pergole Torte captures all the radiance and intensity of the vintage. Deep, powerful and resonant, the 2015 will be a racy wine once it emerges from its recent bottling. As always, the Pergole Torte is differentiated from the Montevertine by its greater textural richness and perfume. In 2015, Pergole Torte is exotically ripe and flamboyant, not to mention utterly captivating. Don't miss it. Antonio Galloni. |

VM 97 (7/2022): The 2019 Le Pergole Torte is all class and refinement. At the same time, the 2019 is quite reticent at this stage. In this tasting, the Pergole Torte comes across as more refined and aromatically expressive than the Montevertine, with lovely brightness driving the red berry fruit. Elegant and sophisticated, the 2019 is a wine to treasure for the next several decades. Time in the glass brings out the floral upper register and red Sangiovese fruit of Pergole Torte. Antonio Galloni. WA 97 (2/2023): Holding back initially, this wine simply needs more time in bottle, and I have adjusted the drinking window accordingly. The 2019 Le Pergole Torte is a long-term proposition showing initial stirrings of tart cherry fruit, plum, licorice, tobacco and crushed stone. There is a pretty floral tone of violet or rosemary flower even now. Winemaking takes this special selection of 100% Sangiovese though cement and Allier and Slavonian oak. The balanced acidity stands out nicely. |

VM 98+ (7/2024): The 2021 Le Pergole Torte is a real stunner. Rich, deep and beautifully layered in the glass, the 2021 is captivating from the very first taste. In bottle, this is quite a bit more reticent than it was as a barrel sample, which, in my view, is a positive. Even so, readers should be prepared to cellar the 2021 for a number of years at a minimum. (Drink between 2028-2046). Antonio Galloni. WA 97 (7/2024): Beautifully saturated and rich in terms of complexity (but not in extraction), the Montevertine 2021 Le Pergole Torte remains focused and elegantly streamlined with a very bright-red cherry element that defines this classic vintage. There are tart fruit flavors to close, followed by firm but silky tannins. A hint of the skins also comes through on the bouquet and adds a little more weight and substance. This wine (which is worked in cement vats, oak cask and Allier barrique) finishes with polished slate-like mineral nuances. |

| VM 93 (1/2018): The gracious, perfumed 2014 Montevertine is a wine of pure finesse. Silky, slender and exceptionally beautiful, it is not the most obvious or powerful Montevertine, but it impresses with its balance, poise and class. Floral notes add nuance to the bright, sculpted finish. Antonio Galloni. |

VM 95 (2/2019): The 2015 Montevertine has closed down massively since it was bottled in February 2018. Beams of tannin dominate over the radiant fruit that was much more expressive when the wine was in barrel. Readers will have to be patient with the 2015, as it needs at least a few years in bottle to show the natural richness of the vintage that was so evident when the wine was in barrel. This should be an especially cellar worthy 2015. Antonio Galloni. WA 94-96 (3/2018): This beautiful wine grabs your attention from the start. Tasted as a barrel sample, the 2015 Montevertine opens to a rich and beautifully saturated color. The wine's density is more extracted and dense, and the aromas are abundantly generous and opulent as a result. Yet, all that excess is carefully contained within the elegant and nuanced approach so perfectly expressed by this historic estate. Blue flower definition with violets and lavender segue to dark fruit, spice and white pepper. The blend is 90% Sangiovese with smaller parts Canaiolo and Colorino. The wine is fermented in cement and then ages in oak for two years. Montevertine sees fruit sourced from the same vineyard that makes Pian del Ciampolo, but fruit here represents a first selection. |
