| VM 93 (5/2022): The 2020 Blanc de Noirs Val Vilaine is pretty rich and heady. The Val Vilaine is typically pretty appealing in its youth; this is a rare vintage I would be tempted to cellar, such is its richness. Dried pear, spice, crushed flowers and chamomile are amplified. I don't think I have ever tasted a Val Vilaine with this much sheer density. What a wine! Disgorged: 2022. Drink between 2022-2032. Antonio Galloni. |

WA 94 (8/2019): The 2011 Blanc de Noirs Côte de Béchalin is terrific, mingling notes of citrus zest and orange oil with red apple, white flowers and pastry cream. On the palate, it's full-bodied and textural but incisive, with excellent concentration, lively acids and a characteristically delicate mousse, concluding with a long and precise finish. Disgorged in April 2018, this derives from a southwest-facing lieu-dit with clay-limestone soils. Since it spends six years sur lattes, it's always vintage dated.
JD 92 (2/2019): Made from 100% Pinot Noir, the 2011 Blanc de Noirs Côtes de Béchalin is outstanding, with exotic notes of honeyed citrus, tangerine, and flowers. This beauty hits the palate with medium to full body, has a layered, ripe, seamless texture, and a great finish. It’s drinking at point today, but it should keep nicely through 2026. (Drink between 2018-2026)
VM 92 (11/2018): The 2011 Blanc de Noirs Côte de Bechalin is a very beautiful wine, especially within the context of this challenging vintage. Yellow orchard fruit, chamomile, wild flowers and lightly honeyed notes all grace this pretty, expressive Champagne. The 2011 is already beginning to show tropical overtones and other notes that indicate it is close to peaking. For that reason, I would prefer to drink it sooner rather than later. Non-dosé. | VM 94 (11/2020): The 2013 Blanc de Noirs Côte de Bechalin La Parcelle is fabulous. Candied lemon peel, almond, mint, sage and baked apple tart are some of the many notes that open in the glass. There is a sense of energy to the 2013 that is so beguiling. Eighty months on the lees give the Parcelle quite a bit of depth, but also the freshness that develops with extended time in the cellar. | VM 93 (11/2018): The 2016 Blanc de Noirs Val Vilaine is gorgeous in this vintage. Ample and creamy on the palate, with tremendous textural richness, the 2016 dazzles from start to finish. I can't remember a vintage of the Val Vilaine that was this complete and harmonious. Moreover, the Val Vilaine is a terrific introduction to Cédric Bouchard and his wines, especially for readers who can't find some of the more smaller-production cuvées. Non-dosé. | VM 92 (11/2020): The NV (2018) Blanc de Noirs Val Vilaine is bright, fresh and wonderfully nuanced. Orchard fruit, citrus and floral notes give the Val Vilaine so much energy. Cédric Bouchard coaxes so much nuance from these 40 year-old vines. The Val Vilaine is always the youngest wine in the range - the current release is the 2018, which spent just 15 months on its lees - but it will give readers who aren't familiar with these wines a very good idea of the house style.
