WA 94 (4/2012): The 2007 Brunello di Montalcino Marroneto is striking. Freshly cut roses, sweet red berries, mint and licorice are some of the many notes that flesh out in the glass. Firm tannins provide the backbone to the fruit. The 2007 impresses for its freshness, vibrancy and fabulous overall balance. Bright, high-toned floral notes add lift on the finish. Most important of all, the wine is flat-out delicious. This is a fabulous showing from Il Marroneto. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2027. JS 89 (1/2012): Some volatility, with plums and mahogany. Full body, with silky tannins and bright acidity. Firm and slightly lean, but attractive. Decant before serving. |

| VM 95 (2/2015): Dark red cherries, mint, sage, tobacco, licorice and new leather blossom in Il Marroneto's 2010 Brunello di Montalcino. Savory and lifted in the glass, the 2010 possesses stunning overall balance and tons of nuance. The tannins are firm and incisive, yet also remarkably polished. Ideally, readers should cellar the 2010 for at least a few years, but it is going to be very hard to resist the temptation of drinking the 2010 young. Antonio Galloni. |

WA 94 (2/2018): Il Marroneto's 2013 Brunello di Montalcino is a beautiful wine and one that invites you to partake in a long evening of good food and even better company. This is a deeply convivial expression of Sangiovese that offers just a glimmer of much-needed informality and coziness to guarantee comfort. But make no mistake, this Brunello reminds you of its pedigree and precision as well. The bouquet opens to white cherry, fragrant rose blossom and violets. The finish is smooth and pliable, with graceful endnotes of smoke and crushed mineral. VM 94 (4/2018): Bright red. The intense note of violet on the nose is absolutely captivating and nicely lifts the aromas of sweet red cherry and aromatic oils. Then very rich, dense and juicy, conveying a seamless quality to its multilayered orchard fruit, spicy red berry and mineral flavors. The exhilarating finish echoes with lingering and repeating floral and mineral notes nicely extended by lipsmacking but harmonious acidity. Classic vintages such as the 2013 really showcase Il Marroneto’s magnificent terroir to its fullest capacity; in these vintages, talented Alessandro Mori produces sleek, refined Brunellos that are true benchmarks of Sangiovese in Montalcino. Very well done. Ian d'Agata. WS 91 (6/2018): This is ripe and rich, showing cherry, plum, tobacco and woody accents. Feels open and will likely be ready soon, yet finishes with ample tannins and fine length. Best from 2020 through 2032. 1,250 cases made. |

WA 96+ (1/2020): You just can't beat the purity of the bouquet here: cherries, red licorice, blue flowers and currants. It's all stunning. Il Marroneto's 2015 Brunello di Montalcino opens to a light garnet color with faint ruby highlights. The wine never veers from its lanes, sticking to an absolutely traditional and fresh expression from the appellation. It offers a lean to medium-weight mouthfeel with radiant fruit flavors—think pure cherry fruit. Fruit is harvested from a five-hectare parcel at 300 meters above sea level with calcareous sand and Galestro soils. These conditions lead to the aromatic intensity of the wine, and that's the main takeaway in this classic vintage. There is a moment of softness that expands quickly over the palate. These results are graceful and gorgeous. VM 93 (12/2023): The remarkably pretty 2015 Brunello di Montalcino swells up with a perfumed blend of dusty dried flowers, exotic spices and lavender. It’s a soft and generous expression, with a core of tart red fruits that add grip as juicy acidity maintains remarkable freshness. The 2015 takes a turn toward the savory spectrum, finishing long and staining with a web of fine-grained tannins that resonate. Eric Guido. |

VM 95 (12/2022): There’s a radiance to the 2018 Brunello di Montalcino that makes it a total pleasure to taste today, as sweet exotic spices come together with dried black cherries, dusty flowers and hints of clove. This is pure pleasure on the palate, displaying both an opulence of fruit, yet also total poise and refinement, as sour berries find an energizing lift from juicy acidity. The 2018 doesn’t miss a beat, tapering off with rounded tannins while lingering on the palate for well up to a minute with an energizing burst of citrus, nuances of sweet rose and licorice. This is already so pretty today, yet it also possesses the balanced structure to mature beautifully, which isn’t found in many Brunello of this vintage. What a darling. Eric Guido. WA 95 (3/2023): Alessandro Mori's Il Marroneto 2018 Brunello di Montalcino opens to a spicy bouquet with hints of cumin and white pepper that fold seamlessly into bright cherry, blueberry and cassis. The trick to this wine is balance, as no one side pulls stronger than the other. More importantly, this Brunello still has life and vibrant energy despite 39 months of aging in oak casks. Precisely because this bottle tastes so good now, I see little reason to wait further. This 21,470-bottle release is a delight. JD 94 (3/2023): The 2018 Brunello Di Montalcino pours a deep and youthful ruby hue. It is highly expressive with medicinal herbs, sour black cherry, leather, clove, and burnt orange. Medium to full-bodied, with tangy acidity and ripe yet angular tannins, it has a complex profile, with currant, dried flowers, and dusty saline earth. It is wound up and needs time, but this will be a wine to enjoy over the coming 20 years. Audrey Frick. |
