| BH 94 (4/2006): (a blend of Musigny, Charmes and Fremières.) This is equally stylish and classy though completely different with a stunningly complex and ultra floral nose combining spice, earth and dark pinot fruit aromas that continue onto the detailed, powerful and fantastically long flavors that stain the palate with almost painful intensity and sap. This may very well equal the Vosne one day as the qualitative difference between the two is subtle indeed. Drink 2014+. Don't miss! Outstanding! |

BH 95 (4/2017): A mild touch of bricking. An expressive nose is now composed mostly of secondary fruit, floral and spice aromas where nuances of earth and a touch of game are present. The supple, delicious and impressively concentrated big-bodied flavors are supported by plenty of sap on the noticeably ripe, dusty and beautifully complex and lingering finish. For my taste this is close to its apogee but I would suggest holding for another 3 to 5 years. Note that another bottle tasted in 2010 seemed much more advanced than this one and while still very good, it was clearly not as pristine and rated "only" 93. (Drink starting 2020). WA 92 (6/2003): Aromas reminiscent of blackberry jam emanate from the glass of the 2000 Clos Vougeot. A forward wine of outstanding depth, purity, and detail, it is medium-bodied, awash in super-ripe dark fruits, and possesses an extensive finish. Drink this generous, fruit-filled offering over the next 7-8 years. VM 90 (7/2018): The 2000 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru from Leroy, after having changed a corked bottle, has a fresh bouquet with blackberry, undergrowth, mint and a touch of clove. The palate is vibrant, a Clos Vougeot with a spring in its steps. It does not possess the depth or complexity of the finest Clos Vougeot that I have encountered from Leroy, but there is a beguiling transparency and an edgy, sappy finish that beckons you back for another sip. Fine, but not a bona fide success given expectations. Tasted at Carré des Feuillants restaurant in Paris. (Drink between 2018-2030). Neal Martin. |

| BH 94 (1/2003): As I'm fond of pointing out, no other producer in Burgundy serves their Clos de Vougeot after their Richebourg and while the 2000 was perhaps the finest I have ever tried chez Leroy, the 2001 may very well be just as good. Much less auster |

| BH 95 (1/2003): Strikingly distinctive nose of game, rich black, earthy fruits and roasted coffee notes as well as something slightly animale plus lusty, full-bodied, intense, velvety flavors that display incredible presence. This is alive and vibrant and just screams breed and class. Much like the Combottes in that it is so intense as to seemingly result in permanent sensory overload. In short, this is a real stunner of a wine and possessed of an incredibly powerful finish. Wow! Drink 2015-2025. Don't miss! |

BH 95 (1/2003): Smoke, earth and extract of red pinot fruit integrates seamlessly with explosive, powerful, chiseled, juicy full-bodied flavors that are bigger and richer than the Charmes yet every bit as fine. This is unquestionably of grand cru quality and also perhaps the finest example of Combottes that I have ever tasted at this address. Flat out phenomenal quality and so intense that I paused for several minutes before continuing on. Reference standard in every respect. (Drink between 2015-2025). VM 91+ (3/2003): Bright red-ruby. Aromas of dark fruits, bitter chocolate, smoke and earth. Intense, firm and penetrating but still tightly wrapped. Dark berry flavors nicely framed by harmonious acidity. With moderate stuffing, the tannins come across as quite firm. Perhaps a bit less noble and more facile than the last few samples but finishes long and aromatic. Stephen Tanzer. WA 90 (6/2003): Strawberries are interspersed with cherries and raspberries in the beguiling scents of the medium-bodied 2001 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Combottes. This deep, complex wine offers lush red berry and oak flavors in its silky-textured attack and a woody, structured finish. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2010. |

| BH 94 (4/2009): A more discreet and naturally cooler nose of extract of red pinot and blue berry fruit that is also spicy and elegant but here the coolness of the vineyard comes into play in the form of a certain reserve, particularly on the delicious and mineral suffused medium plus weight flavors that possess superb focus and really lovely detail on the layered, wonderfully complex and tautly muscular finish that goes on and on. An impressive Combottes. Drink 2019+. |

BH 94 (1/2003): Assertively complex and spicy black fruit nose introduces seductive, intense, big yet refined flavors that completely coat the mouth and rest so long on the palate that this is frankly almost sensory overload. Tannic, concentrated, deep and weighty yet without a trace of heaviness or lack of balance. As good as the Vignerondes but again, the expression is different - the Boudots is perhaps bigger and more concentrated whereas the Vignerondes is silk and elegance. Either way, it's a very high class problem to choose between them. VM 93 (5/2019): The 2001 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Boudots 1er Cru puts Leroy’s 2004 Chambolle-Musigny and 2004 Nuits Saint Georges in the shade when the three are served alongside each other. It has a beautiful bouquet, bright and vivid with red berry fruit, leather, potpourri and a subtle musky note. The palate is well balanced and nicely focused, quite Vosne-like in terms of tannic structure with lilting curry leaf and espresso notes towards the finish. This is drinking perfectly now. Tasted at Empire restaurant in Hong Kong. (Drink between 2019-2036). Neal Martin. WA 90 (6/2003): Appealing red and black cherry aromas are found in the nose of the 2001 Nuits-St.-Georges Aux Boudots. This firm, tightly-wound wine reveals impressive quantities of dark fruit, excellent balance, and a finish that displays some wood tannin. Drink it between 2005 and 2010. |

BH 94 (1/2003): A completely different expression as this offers intense anise and even fresh cola aromas and a fruit packed nose to complement big, edgy, sappy, firm, earthy, extremely thick and dense flavors whose structure is evident yet completely buried beneath all the sap. Dramatically long with remarkable complexity, this is reference standard in its beauty. VM 92 (3/2003): Red-ruby color. Pure, nuanced nose combines cassis, blueberry, licorice, spices, minerals and flowers, all sweetened by oak. Fresh, sweet and delicious; succulent and sexy. Finishes lively, spicy and firm, and impressively persistent. A very appealing, sappy Nuits-Saint-Georges. Stepehn Tanzer. |

| BH 88 (4/2014): A highly aromatic and beautifully complex nose features discreet but not invisible oak influence along with lovely floral hints to the fresh, ripe and mature dark berry fruit and earth suffused aromas. There is good richness and detail to the lightly mineral-driven middle weight flavors that possess a fine sense of energy but not the depth or sophistication displayed on the nose, all wrapped in a solidly long finish. This is one of those wines that has a truly distinguished nose but an average plus amount of depth and length so some may like this more than I do. To be sure, this is a very pretty wine but it's not special in the context of what Leroy typically does with it. In terms of drinkability for my taste this has reached its peak though it should be capable of holding at this plateau for another decade. Drink now+. |

WA 90 (8/2013): The 2011 Pommard Les Vignots was bottled December 2012. It has a complex, slightly earthy bouquet with subtle marine influences, defined and focused with hints of black olive emerging with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with fine focus, imbued with an Oriental edge (hoisin) which is folded into a fine silky finish. Drink now-2020. BH 89 (4/2013): There is a soft touch of wood to the notably ripe yet cool and airy aromas of plum, cassis and wet stone. There is excellent volume and mid-palate concentration to the medium-bodied flavors that brim with dry extract on the detailed finish that exudes a fine minerality. This balanced effort delivers fine depth and length for its level. Drink 2018+. |

JM 96 (5/2024): The domaine is blessed with a heritage of ancient vines, in part because Lalou Bize-Leroy never grubs up and replants All the wines are aged in François Frères barrels which have been air dried for three years. They are neither fined nor filtered – “sediment is the jewel in the bottle”. Not the densest but a fine even gentle red across the glass. Some smoky notes from the stems. Then a super svelte glowing mouthful of alpine and gariguette strawberries, and fresh white pepper, light acidity but adequate, just a few tannins, impeccable length. The smokiness and peppery aspect did not diminish with time. Drink from 2022-2037. BH 96 (6/2009): A deep, brooding and almost taciturn nose of ripe black berry fruit, intense violet notes and spice hints and warm earth gives way to sweet, rich and exceptionally fresh big-bodied flavors that are textured and completely saturate the palate with buckets of dry extract while at the same time buffering the ripe but very firm tannins, all wrapped in a stunningly long finish that has some of the best overall complexity of the entire range. This too will need ample patience but should more than reward the wait. A knock-out. Drink 2022+. WA 94 (6/2010): Its forward, succulent sweetness of red raspberry and purple plum fruit accompanied by blond tobacco and smoked meat set Leroy’s 2007 Richebourg apart from its Romanee-St.-Vivant sibling, whose utterly contrasting personality may convey more alluring mystery and complexity, but cannot compete with the sheer sappy concentration and particular energy and exuberance on display. There is a meaty savor, smoky tang, and brightness of berry fruit that truly stains the palate. I expect this is another Leroy wine that will defy its vintage by retaining stamina for two or more decades, and in the process will almost certainly reveal further facets. |

BH 95 (4/2006): Another step up in aromatic complexity with classic Vosne spice notes as well as the Asian spice cabinet notes associated with a fine RSV that add nuance to the potent mix of red and black pinot fruit aromas that merge into rich, mouth coating, concentrated and powerful flavors that put the attribute of class on parade. This is an exceptionally stylish wine with a richness and velvety quality that is incredibly seductive. Don't miss! Outstanding! Drink 2014+. VM 91 (4/2007): Good medium red. More fruity on the nose than the NSG, with complicating elements of smoke and musky game. This offers a lovely silky texture and compelling sweetness and stuffing for the vintage, with smoke and underbrush adding complexity to the wine's fruit. This has excellent material and finishes with suave tannins. |

| VM 97 (4/2015): The 2012 Vosne-Romanee Les Beaux Monts is simply magnificent. It's impossible not to stop for a moment to consider that this tasting is only at about the halfway point, and the wines are now into the stratosphere. Smoke, lavender, blood orange and plums saturate the palate in a rich, enveloping Burgundy that simply towers. Sensuality and power collide as the Beaux Monts shows off its pure pedigree.
