VM 91-93 (1/2017): Healthy full red. Cherry and boysenberry fruit aromas are lifted by rose petal and violet, with a gamey nuance adding complexity. Silky on entry, with its cherry and raspberry flavors enlivened by pungent minerality. In a distinctly rocky yet smooth style, like a baby Griottes. Stephen Tanzer. BH 90-93 (1/2017): (from a .21 ha parcel planted in 1919.) This is also strikingly fresh and bright with an aromatic profile that runs towards the red side of the fruit spectrum along with more evident earth and game nuances. There is a bit more volume and power to the equally mineral-inflected flavors that trade size and weight for slightly less precision on the equally long but less refined finale. This is more obviously Gevrey in character. Drink 2025+. Outstanding! |

VM 90-92 (1/2018): Good bright red. Distinctly dark aromas of black cherry, licorice and menthol convey a medicinal cast. Then fine-grained, suave and sweet, with flavors of black cherry, blackberry and licorice pastille. Considering the wine's medicinal coolness, this midweight is also quite ripe. Finishes with harmonious tannins that saturate the tongue and build. Lovely subtle length; spreads out subtly to saturate the palate. Stephen Tanzer. BH 90-92 (1/2018): Moderate wood influence can be found on the overtly sauvage-inflected red currant, plum and earth-scented nose. The supple and round medium-bodied flavors possess a velvet-textured mid-palate that is really quite seductive though the natural muscle of a Gevrey 1er shows up on the saline and ever-so-mildly rustic finale. This quality effort is firm enough to require at least 5+ years of cellaring and it will need at least a decade to arrive at its apogee. (Drink starting 2026) |

VM 95 (3/2013): Medium red. Perfumed aromas of raspberry, dried rose, smoke and pepper. Deep, dry and intense on the palate, with compelling inner-mouth perfume to the raspberry and orange zest flavors. The wine's exhilarating sugar/acid balance and peppery lift give the very long, savory finish Outstanding verve. Tannins are utterly suave. BH 93 (1/2013): (from .89 ha parcel planted in 1910.) This is also unusually expressive at this early stage with wonderfully layered aromas of floral nuances, raspberry, cherry, plum, stone and earth. There is excellent volume and richness to the strikingly well-detailed medium-bodied flavors that ooze a fine minerality on the refined, mouth coating and explosively long finish. This faultlessly well-balanced wine should age for years if desired though be approachable after a decade. Be sure to decant this as the gas is apparent. Drink 2022+. Outstanding! |

| BH 93 (1/2014): This also displays a deft touch of wood that surrounds the ultra-fresh and ultra-elegant, pure and superbly well-layered aromas that offer a broad array of both red and blue fruit, stone, exotic tea and dried floral hints. | VM 94 (3/2017): Healthy medium red. Sexy, complex aromas of strawberry, crushed stone and rose petal convey a captivating combe coolness. Wonderfully concentrated and bright, combining classic 2014 salty minerality with superb fruit intensity. Boasts the kind of restrained generosity of fruit that reminds me of the '99s in the early going. A compelling, saline vin de terroir but not a powerhouse. The long, rising finish features very suave tannins. Stephen Tanzer. |

VM 96 (12/2023): The 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Saint-Jacques 1er Cru, which I never tasted from barrel, has a sublime bouquet that is the paragon of Pinot's transparency. Perfumed with joyous red fruit, crushed stone and a touch of wilted rose petal, the aromatics whisk you to the famed walled vineyard. The palate is beautifully balanced with slightly chalky tannins and a surfeit of energy and tension. It’s quite linear and strict toward the finish that just loses its initial crystalline quality. But still, this is a very great wine from Jean-Marie Fourrier. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting. Neal Martin. JM 98 (9/2023): Solid, rich dark crimson. Dark berry fruit, again evidently quite ripe yet showing a sense of balance. This style of bouquet I find enormously pleasing. Layers of flavour on the palate, a vibrant minerality, nuanced all the way through, no excessive alcohol, though the fruit is certainly ripe, and a velvet touch to the finish that is matched by a fresher feel. Brilliant wine! |

| BH 92 (8/2022): A cool and fresh nose exhibits maturing notes of black cherry, raspberry, violet and plum along with plenty of earth and game nuances. There is excellent size, weight, power and punch to the middle weight plus flavors that culminate in a driving, muscular, complex and attractively long finish. This presently moderately austere effort is a classic CAM that is drinking sufficiently well to be enjoyable now though I will holding my remaining bottles for another 4 to 7 years. Lovely. | BH 90-92 (1/2018): Moderate amounts of wood and menthol characters serve as a less than neutral backdrop for the earth and sauvage-inflected dark pinot fruit-suffused nose. The supple, round and unusually forward flavors possess a seductive mouthfeel though the finish immediately tightens up which suggests that this will need the better part of a decade to reach its apogee. | JD 93 (8/2021): I loved the 2014 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Champeaux, which has the more up-front, soft, charming style of the vintage front and center. Lots of pretty red fruits, flowers, spice, and subtle earthy nuances give way to a more medium-bodied Gevrey with polished tannins, solid mid-palate density and concentration, and a great finish. It's one of those wines that builds nicely over the evening and grows on you with time in the glass. It's drinking brilliantly today yet should have another decade of prime time. (Drink between 2021-2031). |

| VM 93 (1/2018): Full medium red. Captivating aromas of dark cherry, dried rose, lavender and crushed rock. Juicy and intensely flavored, offering excellent definition to its penetrating flavors of raspberry, cherry and saline minerality. Shows limited early sweetness but the wine's long, slowly mounting finish features dusty, well-buffered tannins and terrific saline energy. Part of this vineyard is on pure rock with very little topsoil and the strong mineral element thoroughly buffers the alcohol of the vintage. Stephen Tanzer. |

BH 89-92 (1/2007): This relatively obscure 1er always displays an elegant and upper register nose dominated by cool red fruit aromas and obvious minerality that gives way to fresh and ultra pure middle weight flavors and a detailed, reserved and intense finish where the mineral character is almost pungent. This is a beautiful effort that defines finesse. Outstanding! Drink: 2013+ WA 89-91 (4/2007): From one of Gevrey’s highest and steepest vineyards (north of town between Champeaux and Combes au Moines) comes a 2005 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Goulots displaying aromas of cherry and plum with their pits, savory meatiness, concentrated pit fruits and slightly grainy tannins on the palate, and a gripping finish with deep meatiness, stony mineral suggestions and bitter-sweet fruit. This took a while to open up in the glass and probably hadn’t finished trying to reveal its many facets before I was forced to proceed to the next wine. One might take that as a hint to give it patience in one’s cellar as well. |

VM 91 (3/2013): Good bright, full red. High-pitched aromas of tangy red and darker berries and rose petal, complemented by lower-toned earth and smoke notes. Boasts terrific volume for village wine: dense, salty and soil-driven, with raspberry fruit complicated by earth and minerals. Really stimulates the taste buds on the smooth, long, lightly saline finish. Terrific village wine. WA 90-92 (2/2012): The 2010 Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes is striking. Attractive floral aromatics meld into expressive fruit in this sweet, perfumed wine. Dark red cherries, freshly cut flowers, mint and hard candy wrap around the sensual, fragrant finish. This is a very classy showing. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025. BH 89-91 (1/2012): (from Champs Perrières in Brochon.) This is also exceptionally fresh and complex and the composition of the aromas is much the same as the Aux Echezeaux except perhaps here they are ever-so-slightly more elegant. The textured, intense and solidly well-concentrated medium weight flavors possess real verve on the delineated, balanced and focused finish. This also is an excellent villages that is built to age and is also worthy of your consideration. Drink 2018+. Outstanding! |

| VM 90-92 (1/2019): The 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes comes from 60-year old vines, 80-years in Champ Perrière (the minimum 40 years old). The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannins, plenty of tart red fruit laced with cedar and graphite, leading to a pointed finish that feels persistent and classic in style. Excellent. WA 90 (6/2010): The 2008 Vougeot Les Petits Vougeots - whose proximity geographically, geologically, and stylistically to Les Amoureuses or Hauts Doix, he says, should have argued for classifying it as a Chambolle - is deeper in color, richer in texture, and sweeter in fruit than the wines that preceded it in Fourrier’s line-up. Its ripe plum and raspberry fruit is still bright and sassy, though, and cherry pit and chalk lend a certain austere undertone. VM 88-91 (4/2010): Bright, full red. Black raspberry aroma complicated by flinty minerality and lifted by floral perfume. Less precise than the Gruenchers-or is it simply more advanced in its malolactic fermentation? A rounder and more pliant wine, with a dominant flavor of black cherry and good volume. This has the mid-palate fullness to support its tannins. Finishes with good grip. A rather Chambolle style of wine-not surprising, as these vines are not far from Les Amoureuses. BH 89-91 (1/2010): An extremely pretty and pure red pinot fruit nose leads to minerally, intense and precise middle weight flavors that culminate in a firm, complex and lingering finish. This is really quite refined and its proximity to Chambolle is in evidence. Drink 2014+. |

There is a lush and generous mouth feel to the wonderfully refined middle weight flavors that exude ample minerality on the focused and tautly muscular finish. As it virtually always does this is really a Chambolle in drag and delivers that beguiling quality of power without weight. (Drink starting 2022). |
