JD 97 (12/2017): The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon is another incredible 2015 that shows the richness, depth, and opulent of the vintage. Loaded with notions of blackberry liqueur, crème de cassis, licorice, spice-box, incense and flowers. Super concentrated, opulent and unctuous, yet never heavy, over the top, or cumbersome, it has a terrific sense of purity as well as solid underlying structure. Give bottles 3-4 years and it should keep for 2-3 decades. (Drink between 2018-2048).
VM 89 (1/2018): The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon comes across as very ripe and also a bit aggressive in its tannin. It will be interesting to see if the 2015 finds more finesse with time in bottle, but today, the tannins are searing while the alcohol is pronounced. The balance of the best wines in this range isn't quite there. (Drink between 2018-2030). Antonio Galloni. |

JS 99 (2/2019): Incredibly expressive red with crushed blackberries, blueberries and black olives. Christmas cake. Flowers. Full body. Starts off slowly and builds with a superb finish of fine, round and ripe tannins. Goes on for minutes. Needs four or five years to soften. Try after 2024. 600 cases.
JD 98 (1/2019): The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard is a different beast, yet it ratchets up the quality with its sensational perfume of black raspberries, cassis, incense, fruit cake, and spring flowers. Tor started in To Kolan in 2005 and today they pull from their six favorite blocks, around 10 acres in total. It's full-bodied, has beautiful purity and elegant, the sexy style of the vineyard, and a great finish.
WA 98 (9/2018): Bottled in July 2018, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon is deep garnet-purple colored, with warm cassis, Black Forest cake, black raspberries and earth with a floral and spicy undercurrent with scents of roses, cinnamon stick and cedar chest. The palate is full-bodied, lively and very vibrant, with firm, grainy, ripe tannins, finishing long and mineral laced. This is a very exciting wine—polished with bags of pedigree and complexity and still so very, very delicious! 600 cases produced.
VM 94 (12/2018): The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon is dense, powerful and plush, with copious dark fruit, chocolate, leather, smoke and incense overtones. Rich, textured and layered in the glass, the 2016 has a lot to offer. The To Kalon is one of the most tannic of these young 2016 Cabernets. Accordingly, I would give it a few years to come together. | JD 99 (1/2019): The 2015 Black Magic is another magical effort that has some resemblance to the 2013 with its majestic, skyscraper-like texture and palate presence. Possessing a huge perfume of crème de cassis, ripe plums, incense, and dried flowers, it shows the opulence and sweetness of fruit that’s the hallmark of the 2015 vintage, layers of fine tannins, and a monster of finish. It’s thrilling stuff. |

JD 98 (12/2025): Based on 100% Cabernet Sauvignon and aged 21 months in 67% new French oak, the 2023 Black Magic represents a best barrel selection blend offering vibrant blue fruits, cassis, liquid violets, graphite, camphor, and sappy floral notes. It's incredibly concentrated, with a seamless, ultra-pure, focused mouthfeel and notable freshness and acidity in a seamless, sensational, full-bodied style. It needs 4-6 years of cellaring but will keep for 40 years. Drink 2029-2065.
VM 97 (11/2025): The 2023 Black Magic is a blend from Melanson, Vine Hill Ranch and To Kalon. Sumptuous black-toned fruit, gravel, licorice, menthol and chocolate build nicely, growing into a crescendo of aromas, flavors and textures that is truly captivating. | JD 98 (12/2017): A blend of 44% Cabernet Franc, 44% Petit Verdot, and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon that’s from two sites in Oakville, the 2015 Oakville Proprietary Red boasts a deep ruby/purple color as well as locked and loaded notes of black raspberries, blackcurrants, toasty oak, white flowers, underbrush, and incense. This incredibly concentrated, deep, unctuous, and seamlessly textured 2015 has moderate acidity, ripe, sweet tannin, fabulous purity of fruit, and a huge finish. It will be better with short-term cellaring and keep for two decades. (Drink between 2018-2038). |

JD 98 (12/2025): From two blocks (7 and 4), the 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon Vine Hill Ranch Vineyard is just gorgeous, with a lifted, pure cassis and blue fruit character intermixed with background floral, chocolate, and graphite notes. Based on 100% Cabernet Sauvignon and aged 21 months in 64% new French oak, it's medium to full-bodied and has remarkable concentration, ripe tannins, and a pure, precise, focused style that's common from this vineyard. It deserves 4-6 years of bottle age and will see its 30th birthday in fine form. Drink 2029-2055.
VM 96 (11/2025): The 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon Vine Hill Ranch Vineyard is a very sexy, polished wine. Dark cherry/plum fruit, lavender, spice, menthol, orange peel and pomegranate all meld together in the glass. This mid-weight, sophisticated Cabernet should drink well with minimal cellaring.
