| VM 93 (9/2006): Inky ruby. Exotic aromas of blackberry, boysenberry, roasted coffee, dark chocolate and cured tobacco. Lush, sweet and smoky, with a supple texture to the deep dark berry liqueur flavors. No edges here, just luscious dark fruits and a wild smoky quality that carries into the finish. VM 93 (9/2013): Inky ruby. Potent, mineral- and smoke-accented dark berry and violet scents show excellent clarity and lift. Silky and seamless in texture, offering sweet blackberry and boysenberry flavors and notes of spicecake and floral pastilles. Closes with strong thrust, appealing sweetness and sneaky, slow-mounting tannins. Very suave, even now, but this wine will be much better in another five to seven years. WA 91 (8/2014): The 2011 Flor de Pingus is a ripe and powerful Flor that reached 15.5% alcohol in a very warm vintage. The wine is always a combination of 16 separate plots of Tempranillo from the village of La Horra, some young, and some old that are fermented individually in 4,000-liter stainless steel vats. In this ripe and powerful vintage that Sisseck compares with 2009, he decided to age the wine for 18 months in used French oak barrels. This shows riper than other 2011s from Sisseck (is it because it-s only Tempranillo?), with aromas of ripe plums, dark cherries, cinnamon and cloves with a slight lactic touch. The palate is full-bodied, lush and round, with plenty of glycerin, but fresh flavors and good balancing acidity. A powerful, slightly warm vintage of Flor. 70,000 bottles produced. Drink 2014-2017. |

| VM 93 (9/2014): Vivid ruby. Heady aromas of fresh blackberry, boysenberry and smoky minerals are complicated by pungent hints of vanilla, violet and allspice. Lush, intensely flavored and focused, offering deep dark berry and cherry compote flavors and a suave spicecake nuance. | WA 94 (2/2017): The 2014 Flor de Pingus could very well be the finest vintage of this cuvee ever. It could be considered their 'village' wine, as all the grapes come from La Horra, from four different quarters (El Pino, Fuentearriba, Fuentenarro and Castillo); they are mostly old vines, as they have some 25 hectares of those in the village, mostly from the 1950s. In the future it will also have some grapes from younger vineyards they planted 'à l'ancien', with a massale selection of Amelia, riparia rootstocks, etc. The wine is very aromatic and expressive, floral and spicy, with the oak nicely folded into the fruit, which is ripe without excess, and the alcohol is also nicely disguised, as it's high but does not show. It's a powerful and full-bodied vintage for this cuvee, but keeping its approachability and appeal. The tannins are very fine and the finish quite remarkable. A mini-Pingus at a very different price. 92,000 bottles were filled in July 2016. |

NM 96 (8/2012): The millennial Pingus is a fabulous wine from Peter Sisseck. It is endowed with a riveting, intense, vivacious bouquet of liquorice, creme de cassis, peppermint and kirsch and blossoms in the glass. The palate is fully loaded with glycerine-rich black fruit that lends it an unctuous texture that is neatly counterbalanced by requisite acidity. This is the Pingus that the 1998 wanted to be. Drink now-2030+. WA 96 (4/2004): A freak, the 2000 Pingus is an exaggerated, extravagantly rich effort boasting an inky/purple color along with a sumptuous perfume of beef blood, lavender, Provencal herbs, ground pepper, melted licorice, and oodles of blackberry and creme de cassis-like fruit. Full-bodied, powerful, rich, and smoky, with great intensity, and an unctuously-textured, full-throttle finish, it should drink well for 15-20 years. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2025. VM 95 (8/2003): Bright ruby to the rim. Initially cool aromas of blackberry, coffee, mocha and lead pencil; showed a chocolatey aspect with 24 hours in the recorked bottle. Very rich, dense and deep, with a suave, utterly creamy texture. The wine's great sucrosity is buffered by tangy acidity. Finishes with noble, sweet tannins and great persistence. The crop levels in the vineyards that go into Pingus were cut by spring hail (and Peter Sisseck's decision to prune all of the affected bunches), resulting in the lowest yield for this wine since its inception in 1995. Stephen Tanzer. WS 93 (9/2003): Lavish oak gives alluring chocolate and toasty flavors, yet there's enough ripe fruit for balance, with notes of cassis and blueberry. Firm, ripe tannins give age-worthy structure, yet the wine remains balanced. Focused and deep. Drink now through 2015. 300 cases made. |

NM 95 (12/2012): Tasted at “The Sampler” icon tasting in London. The 2001 Pingus has a beautiful nose with great delineation: dark plum, boysenberry, briary and crushed stone that soar from the glass in unison. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tension and poise: hickory, smoke, minerals and white pepper. Good structure on the finish, compact and perhaps needing another few years in bottle. This is an impressive wine Mr Sisseck! WA 95 (4/2004): The opaque ruby/purple-colored, firmly-structured 2001 Pingus is more closed and backward than the extravagantly rich, flamboyant 2000. It offers great fruit on the attack along with huge body, and notes of grilled meats intermixed with Provencal herbs, pepper, spice box, cigar smoke, and copious quantities of barbecue smoke-infused blackberry and cassis flavors. The finish lasts for nearly a minute. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2028. VM 95 (10/2004): Deep, bright ruby-red. Cherry, licorice and smoked meat at the outset; then exploded with raspberry fruit. Lush, smooth and silky, with lovely inner-mouth perfume. Highly complex flavors of raspberry, minerals, bitter chocolate and smoky oak convey an extraordinary sweetness without any excess weight. Expands wonderfully on the extremely long, aromatic finish, which features noble, palate-dusting tannins. From the recorked bottle, the wine again began with dominant smoky, tarry torrefaction notes, and within minutes was taken over by red berries and flowers. More classic than the '03, but the 2003 may be even richer. Stephen Tanzer. WS 93 (11/2004): Power and restraint join forces in this muscular red. Alluring spicy aromas give way to a thick palate with flavors of plum, coffee, tobacco and mineral, backed by firm tannins. It remains balanced and fresh on the long finish. WA 98 (6/2010): The 2006 Pingus is a spectacular effort. A glass-staining saturated opaque purple, it delivers an other-worldly perfume of smoke, lavender, mineral, scorched earth, and an amalgam of kinky black fruits. Voluptuous on the palate in a measured way, it has superb balance, layered, complex flavors, ripe tannin that is entirely covered by the fruit, and a decade of aging potential. This monumental wine will evolve effortlessly for 10-15 years and offer a drinking window extending from 2016 to 2036. WS 95 (1/2012): Still young, this powerful red is thick with tannins. The cassis and black plum flavors are sweet and fresh, concentrated and focused. Best from 2014 through 2026. 555 cases made. VM 95 (10/2008): Opaque purple. Powerful, mineral-driven aromas of blackberry, blueberry, creme de cassis, incense and floral oils. Fresh dark berry flavors are youthfully crunchy and strikingly pure, with mounting spiciness and minerality. Silky tannins add support to the broad, palate-staining fruit but quickly fade away, allowing the exotic dark berry flavors to stand out. The mineral element clings impressively on the long, sappy, sweet finish. A superb showing, and no doubt the last time I'll get to try this as it costs more per bottle than my car is worth. WA 98 (6/2010): Vintage conditions required a stricter selection for the 2007 Pingus. The aromatics are more brooding but seriously multifaceted. Smoke, pencil lead, truffle, Asian spices, blackberry, and licorice notes are followed by a chewy, dense, rich, powerful wine with fully integrated oak, savory black fruits, ripe tannins, and a decade of aging potential. Drink it from 2020 to 2037 if not longer. VM 95 (10/2009): Glass-staining ruby. Pungent, mineral-driven aromas of black raspberry, bitter cherry, smoky minerals and potpourri, plus a sexy smoky note of cola. Sweet and powerful, with brilliant definition and intensity to the ripe dark berry and cherry flavors. Lush and creamy but energetic, with silky tannins giving shape to the expansive fruit. Highly concentrated but very young wine with a strong, sappy, penetrating finish that echoes the floral note. This is a weighty wine but there's no excess fat or thickness. Stash it away for at least another six years. WS 93 (3/2013): The wine is round and supple, yet the well-integrated tannins give backbone to the red fruit and mint flavors. Balanced and fresh.—Non-blind Pingus vertical (January 2012). Drink now through 2017. 525 cases made. |

| WA 99 (6/2010): The 2008 Pingus had just been bottled when I tasted it. Deep purple in color, it sports a splendid aromatic array of smoke, mineral, Asian spices, incense, lavender, and black cherry. On the palate it exhibits Outstanding volume, intense fruit, power combined with elegance, and a long, smooth finish. It is a complete, virtually seamless wine that might one day achieve perfection. Give it 5-7 years of cellaring and drink it from 2016 to 2033. |
