| VM 97 (4/2023): The 2019 Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru is the real deal. Dark cherry, pressed iris flower, crushed stone and blueberry burst from the glass, all with killer delineation and focus. You could inhale this all day! The palate is sculpted to perfection, symmetrical and poised, gaining intensity in the glass toward its satin-textured finish. This is going to be glorious! VM 95 (7/2022): The 2016 Gevrey-Chambertin Lavaut Saint-Jacques 1er Cru has certainly stepped up in intensity since I last tasted it. Redcurrant, cranberry, juniper berries and just a touch of mint, fine delineation with fine focus. The palate is medium-bodied with saturated tannins, perfectly judged acidity, a touch of allspice and white pepper, fanning out gloriously on the expansive finish. Time to raise my previous score. WA 92+ (4/2019): Entirely destemmed, the 2016 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaut Saint-Jacques reveals beautiful aromas of bright cherries and raspberries that mingle with scents of spice, grilled game bird, loamy soil and rose petal. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, layered and muscular, with good concentration and fine-grained structuring tannins that assert themselves on the finish. This will reward bottle age. |
