JD 92 (5/2023): The first vintage from To Kalon, only 285 cases of the 2000 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Oakville were produced. Tobacco, black olive tapenade, currants, and spicy herbs all define the aromatics, and it's medium to full-bodied, with fine tannins, bright yet integrated acidity, and outstanding length. It's clearly fully mature and not going to get better, but it offers lots of pleasure. Drink up if you have them. |

|
WA 98 (10/2017): The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Las Piedras Vineyard La Bam displays a deep garnet-purple color and expressive nose of crushed mulberries, plum preserves and cassis with suggestions of chargrill, sautéed herbs and licorice plus a touch of cedar chest. Full-bodied and built like a brick house in the mouth, it has a firm frame of grainy tannins and great freshness supporting the taut, muscular fruit, finishing with lingering aniseed and meaty notions. VM 95+ (1/2018): The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer La Bam Las Piedras Vineyard oozes with character. Crushed rocks, gravel, smoke, game and tobacco, along with the firm tannins typical of this site, give the wine its super-distinctive personality. Dark, inward and brooding, the 2015 offers an intriguing contrast between the richness of the vintage and the natural structure of Las Piedras that will be fascinating to follow over the next 15-20 years. Antonio Galloni. |

The G.T.O. Beckstoffer To Kalon Vyd. Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5 L) |
$595 |

|
JD 99 (5/2023): Lastly, and I think the star of the show in 2014, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard The G.T.O. (which included some Clone 6 Cabernet Sauvignon for the first time) is a bigger, richer, more powerful wine offering pure cassis and currant fruits, some leafy herb, tobacco, chocolate, and Pauillac-like lead pencil nuances, a stacked mid-palate, ultra-fine tannins, and a thrilling finish. As with the other 2014s here, it's drinking brilliantly today and is going to have 20-30 years of overall longevity. WA 96+ (12/2016): The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon The G.T.O. is a tiny lot of 25 cases, in magnum only. An intense wine with almost the essence of blackberry and cassis intermixed with charcoal, scorched earth, fruitcake and tobacco leaf. Great opulence on the attack, terrific velvety tannins and a long, layered finish make for a spectacular wine and another great example of this phenomenal Napa Valley vineyard. Drink it over the next 25-30 years. |

JD 98 (5/2023): The clear standout in 2017 is the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard The G.T.O., a deeper, richer, incredibly impressive wine from a challenging vintage. As always, a blend of the three parcels, this deep purple-hued beauty offers a full-bodied, rich, concentrated style as well as beautiful cassis and darker fruits, some complex notes of iron, violets, white pepper, and flowery incense, perfect tannins, and an expansive, layered, opulent profile that's hard to find in this vintage. It's an incredible wine. WA 97+ (10/2019): Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon The GTO springs from the glass with bold crème de cassis, blackberry pie, preserved plums and cigar box scents with hints of incense, underbrush, Chinese five spice and tree bark. Big, rich, opulent and full with firm, grainy tannins and bags of spicy black fruit, it has a velvety texture and long, layered finish. |

WA 95-97 (12/2015): The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard The Grand Daddy is another prodigious effort from Carter. Unbelievable fruit quality, blueberries, blackberries, spring flowers, you name it, it’s everything one could ever want in a great world-class, complex Cabernet Sauvignon. Add silky tannins and full-bodied opulence and a killer finish, and you’ve got a prodigious effort in 2014. |

|
JD 97 (5/2023): As always, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard The Grand Daddy comes from a parcel of Clone 4 Cabernet Sauvignon. It has a pretty, pure, full-bodied, balanced profile as well as beautiful aromatics of ripe plums, cassis, spice, and flowery incense. The tannins are perfectly ripe, and it has a great finish, with no hard edges. This fabulous To Kalon Cabernet Sauvignon will evolve for another three decades. WA 98+ (10/2018): Very deep purple-black in color, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard The Grand Daddy comes charging out of the glass with gregarious scents of blackberry pie, warm cassis, black raspberries and Black Forest cake plus hints of camphor, cigar box, pencil lead and incense. Full-bodied, super intense and opulently fruited in the mouth, it delivers a powerful black fruit core with a firm yet plush frame and very long, multilayered finish. VM 95+ (12/2018): A big, structured wine, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard The Grand Daddy is going to need a number of years to come into its own, as the tannins are forbidding. Iron, smoke, savory herb, tobacco and leather are backed up by beams of supporting structure. This backward, reticent Cabernet Sauvignon will require patience. Antonio Galloni. |

$295 |

|
WA 95-98 (12/2015): The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard The O.G. is another killer for Carter in this vintage. It might be just below the profound concentration and depth of the 2013, but this is certainly going to be an upper-90-point wine when released. Amazing cassis, blackberry and floral notes followed by a full-bodied, velvety textured, super-rich and concentrated wine that is a stunner. This is first-growth quality that is unreal. It should drink well for 20 years, even in a more precocious vintage like 2014. |

JD 100 (5/2023): I thought the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard The O.G. was a perfect wine when I tasted it on release, and I continue to hold that belief. Pure perfection in Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, it has a magical bouquet of crème de cassis, darker currants, iron, tapenade, violets, and chocolate that gives way to a full-bodied, deep, concentrated, powerful 2016 displaying the vintage's pure, focused, utterly classic style front and center. Give bottles another 3-4 years, count yourself lucky, and enjoy this legendary To Kalon Cabernet Sauvignon over the following 3+ decades. WA 99 (10/2018): Very deep purple-black in color, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon The O G struts a very seductive nose of opulent crème de cassis, blueberry pie, mulberries and plum preserves notions with touches of chocolate-covered cherries, aniseed, sandalwood and unsmoked cigars plus hints of menthol and smoked meats. Full-bodied, concentrated and wonderfully decadent in the mouth, it completely coats the palate with black fruit preserves plus loads of spice box and savory layers, framed by firm yet velvety tannins and finishing with epic persistence. Yum! VM 96 (12/2018): The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard The O.G. is the most sensual and voluptuous of the Carter To Kalon Cabernets. A wine with no hard edges and plenty of curves, the 2016 will drink well with minimal cellaring. Chocolate, espresso, plum and crème de cassis lead into a potent finish laced with the floral overtones that are typical of 337 Clone Cabernets. The O.G. is a terrific example of Mark Carter's style at its best. Antonio Galloni. |

JD 98 (5/2023): Offering the classic 2015 ripeness and sweetness of fruit, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard The Three Kings is fruit-forward and uber-sexy, with up-front aromatics of red, black, and blue fruits, some flowery incense, and spicy nuances, full-bodied richness, and ripe, polished, integrated tannins. As with all the 2015s, it brings a huge amount of fruit while staying nicely balanced, even elegant. It will probably evolve for another two decades. WA 97 (10/2017): Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon The Three Kings is a little broody at this youthful stage, offering relatively subdued blackberries and black plum notes with earth and truffles suggestions plus cigar box, black pepper and new leather. The palate is a somewhat different story, filling the mouth with exuberant earth, black fruit and spice box layers, supported by plenty of lively acidity and a firm, grainy backbone, finishing long. VM 93 (1/2018): Black cherry, plum, chocolate, mocha, new French oak and spice notes infuse the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard The Three Kings. Deep, unctuous and super-concentrated, the Three Kings captures all of the natural richness of the vintage. Give it a few years in bottle to fully unwind. The Three Kings is the most open of Mark Carter's To Kalon Cabernets. Antonio Galloni. |

JD 99 (5/2023): The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard The Three Kings might end up being the star of the show in 2016 when all is said and done. I wrote "crazy good" in my raw notes, and it has a sensational nose of crème de cassis, blueberries, graphite, iron, and lavender. These carry to a full-bodied, concentrated, extravagantly textured 2016 with a great sense of freshness, ripe tannins, and a brilliant finish. WA 97+ (10/2018): The very deep purple-black colored 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon The Three Kings features compelling black cherries, warm black berries and crème de cassis notes with nuances of plum pudding, mincemeat pie, sautéed herbs, charcuterie, tapenade and Indian spices. Full-bodied, rich and opulent in the mouth, it fills the palate with exotic spices and black fruit preserves, framed by approachable grainy tannins and finishing very long and very spicy. VM 95 (12/2018): The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard The Three Kings is dense, powerful and lush in the glass, with tremendous richness in all of its dimensions. Dark cherry, plum, smoke, spice and new leather all flesh out in this ample, broad-shouldered To Kalon Cabernet. Silky tannins and plush, resonant inky fruit add to the wine's considerable appeal. JD 98+ (12/2017): Coming from red volcanic soils located just above Backus Vineyard in Oakville, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Weitz Vineyard is undeniably mountain fruit and has a fresh, focused, chiseled style as well as incredible complexity in its black and blue fruits, incense, Asian spice, graphite, and ample crushed rock-like minerality. This beautifully complete, impeccably balanced beauty needs 3-4 years of bottle age yet will keep for 2-3 decades. Mike Carter and winemaker Mike Smith continue to make a bevy of hedonistic, sexy, powerful wines from throughout Napa Valley. These 2015s are all brilliant wines, yet quantities are tiny due to the dismal yields. WA 95+ (10/2017): Deep purple-black in color, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Weitz Vineyard has a decadent nose of plum preserves, blueberry compote and dried mulberries with touches of Indian spices, sandalwood, lavender and cloves. Full-bodied, soft, sexy and seductive with its come-hither spicy berry preserves layers and plush tannins, it finishes on a persistent exotic spice note. VM 94 (1/2018): A rush of super-ripe dark cherry, lavender, chocolate, new French oak, violet, plum and smoke makes a strong opening statement in the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Weitz Vineyard. Unctuous and concentrated in the glass, the 2015 exudes richness in all of its dimensions. This is a very representative wine from Oakville's sundrenched Upper Plateau. Antonio Galloni. |

Full-bodied and laden with taut, muscular fruit, it has a solid line of grainy tannins and just enough freshness, finishing with an herbal lift. |
