| VM 90 (12/2006): (this spent 61 months on its lees and was disgorged in August, 2006) Medium gold. Rich, smoky, deep aromas of leesy apple, apricot pit, pomegranate and rhubarbs. A chewy, substantial, medium-bodied wine with a distinctly toasty cast to its flavors of ripe pit fruits, toffee, fresh porcini and truffle. Serve this big, dense Champagne (I'm more tempted to call it a wine) with hearty, richly sauced dishes or the strongest cheeses. Not for those who prefer a racy style, but fans of the type will love it. |

| VM 91 (11/2016): From an old-vine parcel in Ambonnay, Egly's 2014 Coteaux Champenois Ambonnay Rouge is about as good as it gets for still Pinot Noir in Champagne. Sweet red cherry, tobacco, spice, licorice and leather all flesh out in the glass. A wine of notable concentration and depth, the 2014 sets the bar for what is possible with still Pinot in Champagne. The new oak has been beautifully integrated and all the elements are in the right place. Drink between 2016-2020. Antonio Galloni. |
