| BH 91 (4/2021): A much more sauvage-suffused nose speaks of dark berries, plum, earth and soft but perceptible wood influence. There is both good intensity and volume to the caressing medium-bodied flavors that possess an interesting texture that is borderline chalky, all wrapped in a youthfully austere and moderately firm finale. (Drink starting 2029). |

| BH 92 (4/2021): A cool, restrained and pretty nose exhibits the pure essence of various red berries and soft spice wisps, all of which is framed in just enough wood to mention. The super-sleek, intense and overtly stony middle weight plus flavors are firmly structured while the sneaky long finish is youthfully austere and exceptionally compact. Unlike the prior wines that could arguably be approached after a few years, I would strongly advise not touching this for at least a decade. (Drink starting 2034). |

| VM 91 (12/2023): The 2019 Volnay Les Caillerets 1er Cru has a clean, precise, complex bouquet with brambly red fruit, briar and touches of blood orange. The oak here is neatly integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins and is quite citrus-driven, with blood orange (again) infusing the layered red fruit. This is perhaps just missing a little grip and complexity as it sashays toward the finish. Fine. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting. Neal MArtin. |

| VM 92 (1/2022): The 2017 Volnay Carelle Sous La Chapelle 1er Cru has a well-defined bouquet of cranberry and wild strawberry scents, almost pastille-like, and the oak is nicely enmeshed. The medium-bodied palate features sappy red berry fruit laced with black pepper and spicebox and exerts gentle grip. This feels quite persistent in the mouth, with a long, saline finish. Neal Martin. |

BH 91 (4/2021): A distinctly floral-suffused nose exhibits additional notes of spice and red cherry. The wonderfully refined, indeed delicate, flavors possess a lacy texture while exuding a subtle minerality on the youthfully austere finale. This is pretty much textbook Carelle. (Drink starting 2026). VM 91-93 (12/2020): The 2019 Volnay En Carelle Sous La Chapelle 1er Cru is matured in 20% new oak and is completely de-stemmed. It offers darker fruit compared to the Volnay Village with raspberry, wild strawberry and cranberry. Hints of briary and sous-bois develope in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with a vibrant entry, veins of blood orange suffusing the bright red fruit with a slightly chalky textured finish. Very good tension throughout this Volnay that should give 15-20 years of drinking pleasure. (Drink between 2022-2040). Neal Martin. |

BH 91-93 (4/2018): Much more discreet, if not invisible, wood sets off pure, cool and restrained aromas of red currant, raspberry and soft floral wisps. There is really lovely vibrancy to the detailed, sleek and refined medium weight flavors that brim with both minerality and dry extract that serves to buffer the distinctly firm tannic spine shaping the lingering and beautifully balanced finale. This too is really quite good and worth considering. VM 87? (10/2019): The 2016 Volnay Clos des Verseuil 1er Cru has a very perfumed, almost over-scented bouquet that feels very floral, rather obscuring the fruit profile underneath. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly chewy tannins, grippy and firm in the mouth with some dry wood tannins that are marring the finish at the moment. This is a tricky one to assess and it may just be suffering a closed down stage of its evolution. Neal Martin. |

| BH 90 (4/2021): This is the first wine to display much reduction and here it's enough to mask the underlying fruit so be sure to give this some air if you're going to crack a bottle young. Otherwise there is very good volume to the fleshy but sleek and delicious flavors that exude a subtle warmth on the firm, dusty, moderately austere and bitter cherry pit inflected finale. This is quite compact at present and is going to need at least a few years of keeping to unwind. |

| VM 90+ (1/2018): (13.5% alcohol; 20% new oak; the estate owns two parcels of vines in Santenots, one 15 and the other 70 years of age, and plans to pull up the old vines this year): Deep red with ruby tones. Liqueur-like black raspberry, dark cherry and bitter chocolate on the nose. Very ripe, full, powerful Volnay; quite chewy and sappy, with captivating saline soil character and a rather massive tannic structure that calls for patience. More dominated by the vintage than most of the other 2015s at this address. Stephen Tanzer. |

| BH 90-93 (4/2018): A more deeply pitched array is composed mostly of plum liqueur, dark cherry and notably more earth influence. There is also more volume and muscle though less refinement to the medium-bodied flavors that deliver excellent length on the focused and sneaky long finale. Drink 2026+. |
