WA 90 (5/2018): The 2016 Alesia Chardonnay Anderson Valley offers up an inviting bouquet of green orchard fruit, struck match, blanched almonds and subtle nutmeg. On the palate, it's medium-bodied and succulent, with a more rounded, giving profile than its Santa Cruz Mountains counterpart but displays good cut and vitality, concluding with a youthfully chalky finish. This is the most accessible Chardonnay in the Rhys portfolio, but I'd expect it to drink well for the better part of a decade. |

VM 95 (4/2018): Racy and unctuous in the glass, the 2016 Chardonnay CIX Vineyard is one of the most viscous wines in this range. This opulent, dense Chardonnay is going to need quite a bit of time to be at its very best, but it is impressive, even at this early stage. The CIX gets more new oak than most of the other Chardonnays, and yet the wood is very nicely integrated. Antonio Galloni. |

VM 97 (4/2018): A thrilling wine, the 2016 Chardonnay Lauren Vineyard is the most expansive of these wines. The interplay of creamy fruit, acid and structure is utterly captivating. Medium in body, the Lauren is a wine of impeccable balance and understated class that makes its case more with finesse and pure power. This parcel is planted with a combination of Mt. Eden, Corton-Charlemagne, Hyde and Hudson Chardonnay clones. Perhaps it is that combination of clonal material that results in a wine of unusual complexity and layers. The refreshing, gracious finish only adds to the wine's considerable appeal. In a word: superb. Antonio Galloni. |

VM 96 (4/2018): The 2016 Chardonnay UV-SL Vineyard is powerful and also razor-sharp. Chalk, crushed rocks, mint and citrus peel give the UV-SL its distinctive energetic, focused feel. The UV-SL shows the distinct influence of elevation at this site perched at 1,200 feet above sea level. While many of the Aubert Chardonnays are overt, the UV-SL is much less forthcoming. Underpinnings of acid and structure add to the wine's considerable appeal. Antonio Galloni. |

WA 92+ (10/2017): Bottled in June 2016, the 2016 Sauvignon Blanc gives up intense white peaches, grapefruit and lemon tart notes with hints of dried herbs, struck match, baker’s yeast and fresh hay. Medium-bodied, the palate lends a lovely satiny texture with a refreshing backbone lifting the vibrant citrus flavors, finishing long and steely. Drinking nicely now, it should cellar gracefully for 5-7+ years. 600 were cases made. |

VM 95 (3/2018): The 2016 Chardonnay is fabulous. A vivid, textured wine, the 2016 possesses remarkable finesse and intensity in all of its dimensions. Lemon oil and white flowers are amped up by the natural intensity of these old vines. The 2016 was fermented and aged in neutral oak, with no malolactic fermentation. Mayacamas is setting a new standard for what California Chardonnay can be. Don't miss it. Antonio Galloni. WS 91 (7/2018): Focused and pure-tasting, showing savory notes to the intense green apple, Asian pear and citrus flavors, with hints of slate and spice on the finish. Drink now through 2022. |

WA 91 (2/2017): The 2016 Sauvignon Blanc Estate Old Vines offers up complex grapefruit, lanolin, lime leaves and sage notes with underlying notes of flint, lavender and chalk dust. Medium-bodied and finely styled on the palate, it delivers tons of mineral, citrus and herb-flavor layers and great length. |

VM 95 (4/2018): The 2016 Chardonnay Rachael's Vineyard, from the Mt. Eden clone, is fabulous. Rich, ample and layered, the 2016 has more than enough freshness and aromatic lift to play off the natural intensity of the Russian River fruit. Time in the glass brings out the wine's density and power. I would give the 2016 another year or so in bottle to fully come together. The Rachel's is another compelling wine from Tom Rochioli. Antonio Galloni. |

Deux Grenouilles Proprietary Blend |

JD 97 (10/2018): The 2016 Deux Grenouilles is another brilliant white from this estate. Based on 36% Roussanne, 29% Chardonnay, 23% Viognier, and the balance Petite Manseng and Muscat, brought up 48% new French oak (the balance is in neutral oak and concrete eggs). This rich, full-bodied, incredibly elegant white offers up a smorgasbord of buttered citrus, orange blossom, flower oil, and honeyed minerality. Despite being a full-bodied, powerful wine, it stays fresh and graceful, with terrific freshness and acidity. It needs a decant if drinking any time soon and should keep for a decade or more. WA 94 (8/2018): The 2016 Deux Grenouilles White bursts with expressive aromas of apricot preserve, yellow plums, dried flowers, orange rind and Acacia honey. It's a deftly judged blend of 36% Roussanne, 29% Chardonnay, 23% Viognier, 9% Petite Manseng and 3% Muscat, and the exotic aromatic contributions of the Viognier and Muscat don't drown out the subtle expressions of the other varieties. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, fat and lavish, with considerable satiny texture, juicy acids and a sapid, even savory finish that I suspect reflects the Petite Manseng component. It's a rich and dramatic white that should drink well on release and could well be very interesting with time in the bottle. The Deux Grenouilles was produced entirely from estate fruit with the exception of Chardonnay from Bien Nacido Vineyard, and it was vinified in 26% concrete eggs, 26% used barrels and 48% new oak. VM 94 (9/2018): The 2016 Deux Grenouilles is gorgeous. Rich and ample on the palate, with tremendous depth, the 2016 is super-distinctive. Like all Sine Qua Non whites, the Deux Grenouilles will need a few years in bottle to come into its own. Apricot pit, almond, chamomile and dried flowers are woven together in a creamy, expansive white endowed with superb textural voluptuousness. The Sine Qua Non whites are tempting to drink upon release, but I prefer them with a few years of bottle age. Antonio Galloni. |
