JD 100 (8/2018): Another best to date, the 2016 Châteauneuf-du-Pape La Cuvee du Papet from Thierry Sabon is pure perfection in a glass. More powerful than the classic cuvee, with killer black raspberries, crushed rocks, garrigue, salty minerality, and iodine, it's deep, full-bodied, concentrated, and sexy, yet has building tannin. It's one of those “iron fist in a velvet glove” wines and continued to gain depth and richness every time I went back to the glass. Old-school, traditional Châteauneuf-du-Pape doesn’t get any better, and readers should beg, borrow or steal to get a hold of this. Hide bottles for 4-5 years (or more), count yourself lucky, and enjoy bottles over the following 2-3 decades. VM 95 (7/2018): Deep bright-rimmed ruby. Sexy, spice-accented aromas of raspberry, cherry liqueur, incense and succulent flowers, joined by a smoky mineral element that builds in the glass. Deep-pitched yet lively red and dark berry liqueur flavors stain the palate and display superb clarity and minerally lift. Finishes with impressive nerviness and thrust; silky tannins frame the wine’s sweet fruit. Josh Raynolds. |

WA 95 (8/2019): The finest young wine I've encountered from Delamotte, the 2008 Blanc de Blancs unfurls in the glass with an expressive bouquet of freshly baked bread, lemon oil, green apple, oyster shell and mandarin. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, textural but incisive, with superb concentration and depth at the core and a long, penetrating finish. Less autolytic in style than the 2004, some 60,000 bottles were produced, around a third less than in an average vintage. This bottle was disgorged a year ago with seven grams per liter dosage. |

BH 92 (10/2019): A notably high-toned and highly expressive nose has a plenitude of citrus influences along with background wisps of yeast, brioche, white flower and green apple. This is one intense Champagne with laser-like focus and delineation to the racy middle weight flavors that are supported by fine but firm effervescence that carries over to the bone dry and linear finish. I normally am a big fan of this wine but I found the '08 version to lack the same depth as the best examples. With that said, 2008 is a great Champagne vintage so perhaps this is a case of premature judgment on my part. Even so, most of the top 2008 cuvées that I have tried offer knock-out depth so we'll see in time if the Fleur proves me wrong. To that end, this clearly has the stuffing to age effortlessly so I would be inclined to hold the '08 Fleur for at least another 4 to 7 years. |

WA 91 (11/2014): The "ultimate expression of the Lanson style" is made from predominantly Chardonnay and a third portion of Pinot Noir, all grand cru, and offers an intense bouquet of mocha, honey, hazelnut and nougat plus ripe and cooked apples. Pure, elegant and firmly structured on the palate this is an expressive 2000 Noble Cuvee de Lanson Millesime Brut Champagne with a toasty character and a really dry taste. Quite stimulating and complex. |
