JD 98+ (12/2023): The flagship 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Pritchard Hill is based on 95% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Petit Verdot. Dense purple-hued, with incredible aromatics of black and blue fruits, camphor, liquid violets, tobacco, and graphite, it has a remarkable sense of opulence in its aromas and flavors and delivers full-bodied richness, a massive mid-palate, building tannins, and a thrilling finish. It reminds me of an improved 2013. This heavenly Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon will evolve for 30-40 years in cold cellars and is another absolutely sensational wine from this estate. Don't miss it. Drink between 2023-2063. WA 98+ (3/2024): A blend of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Petit Verdot, all aged in new French oak, the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Pritchard Hill appears destined to be another classic. Penetrating aromas of cassis and red berries are joined by hints of violets, dried sage, crushed stones and pencil shavings on the nose, while the full-bodied palate is rich and intensely concentrated, framed by dusty tannins that linger easily on the long, mouthwatering finish. Drink between 2025-2050. VM 91 (12/2023): The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Pritchard Hill is another huge, brooding wine in this range. Today, the tannins are searing in their intensity. It's hard to know if the fruit will ever emerge here. The 2021 is massiely tannic and forbidding at this stage. Drink between 2024-2033. Antonio Galloni. |

$95 |

WS 90 (11/2004): Smooth, ripe and polished, with a pretty core of spicy plum and currant fruit and a touch of blackberry, it wins points for its elegance and grace, finishing with a long, smooth, flavorful finish. Drink now through 2009. 13,600 cases made. WA 87 (12/2003): The 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon Stags Leap exhibits a medium deep ruby color along with a pretty nose of red and black currants, spice, and cedar. Medium-bodied, subtle, clean flavors of earth and wood are also present. Drink it over the next 7-8 years. |

2002 |
Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5 L) |
$89 |
6 |
WA 90 (6/2012): The 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon is primarily Cabernet Sauvignon blended with small quantities of Merlot and Petit Verdot. A classic example of the Stags Leap District, it is an elegant, finesse-styled Cabernet with a deep ruby/purple color as well as an attractive nose of plums, black cherries, currants, cedar, loamy earth and roasted herbs. Medium to full-bodied, rich and close to full maturity, it should hold for another decade. |

WS 90 (8/2014): Serves up fresh, ripe, snappy cherry, blackberry, mocha, licorice and light cedar notes, ending with firm, gravel-laced tannins that keep the flavors lively. Rivals fellow Chimney Rock 2004 reds. Drink now through 2020. 17,710 cases made. |

Colgin |

IX Estate Proprietary Blend |
$699.99 |
9 |
WA 99 (3/2024): Colgin's 2021 IX Estate is a rich, opulent example, with layers of ripe black cherries and dark chocolate punctuated by hints of sage and bay leaf, plus some vaguely floral notes (violets?). Full-bodied, concentrated, velvety and long, it's another terrific wine that showcases the potential of Pritchard Hill, the investment by the owners and the talent of the winemaking team. Drink between 2025-2045. JD 98+ (12/2023): I’d wager a Napa Valley legend in the making, the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon IX Estate comes from the estate vineyard on Pritchard Hill, and if there was ever a classification of terroirs in the valley, this would check in near the top of the list. Deep purple-hued, with awesome aromatics of pure cassis, graphite, crushed stone, and subtle floral hints, this has that rare mix of power and elegance that defines so many great wines. Full-bodied, concentrated, and flawlessly balanced, it has no shortage of structure and is going to need 7-8 years, if not a decade, to hit full maturity, where it will hold for 2-3 decades. Drink between 2023-2031. VM 98 (12/2023): The 2021 IX Estate is such an elegant wine. Sleek, aromatic and refined, the 2021 is one of the most polished young wines I have tasted from this site. Red/purplish fruit, lavender, rose petal and mint abound. Silky and delineated, the 2021 is exceptionally beautiful and balanced. Clean saline notes and veins of tannin extend the explosive, sublime finish. Drink between 2027-2041. Antonio Galloni. |

2021 |
IX Estate Syrah |
$295.99 |
3 |
JD 98+ (12/2023): The 2021 Syrah is another incredible Syrah here and I’d put it up against any Syrah out there. Inky-hued with a La Landonne-like nose of ripe black and blue fruits, smoked game, chocolate, and graphite, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a dense, powerful, compact mouthfeel, building tannins, and a great finish. Hide bottles for 4-5 years and enjoy over the following decade or more. Drink between 2027-2037. WA 98 (3/2024): All destemmed and aged in Burgundy pièces from the likes of Damy, François Frères and Ermitage, the 2021 Syrah IX Estate boasts considerable floral and herbal nuances on the nose, along with something akin to rust, corroded iron or blood and layers of black cherry and plum fruit. Full-bodied, rich and velvety in texture, it lacks the finesse and elegance of the 2018, but it pales only in comparison to that beauty, finishing long, with echoes of espresso, licorice and peppery spice. Drink between 2025-2040. VM 97 (12/2023): The 2021 Syrah IX Estate impresses with its fruit purity and freshness. Bright red-toned fruit, blood orange, cinnamon and dried herbs are beautifully articulated in this vibrant, mid-weight Syrah. There's a bit of new oak today, but that will subside over time. This is an exceptionally beautiful vintage for the Syrah, a wine that is as much a wine of IX Estate as it is of varietal character. Seamless, polished tannins wrap up the finish. Drink between 2026-2036. Antonio Galloni. |

Dominus |
1999 |
Proprietary Blend |
$225 |
3 |
WS 95 (11/2002): A wine of great intensity, depth and complexity. Beautifully crafted, ripe, rich and creamy, showing off pretty vanilla and mocha-scented oak before a deep core of currant, blackberry, black cherry and minerally flavors fold in. Firm tannins add structure on the finish. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Best from 2004 through 2014. 7,000 cases made. VM 91+ (6/2002): Medium red-ruby. Spicy red- and blackcurrant, plum, currant leaf and mocha on the claret-like nose. Dense and rich, with spicy red berry and lightly floral flavors nicely framed by harmonious acidity. Today one senses the wine's 13% cabernet franc component. Quite tightly coiled today; shows little sign of the roasted character shown by some '99s. Firmly tannic and very strong on the back end, with an almost medicinal austerity; very much a wine from small berries. This really needs at least seven or eight years of bottle aging; make sure to decant your bottle if you can't wait to pull the cork. Should ultimately merit a higher rating. WA 88 (8/2002): The firm, austere, large-scaled 1999 Dominus (7,000 cases) is a blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Cabernet Franc, 9% Merlot, and 3% Petit Verdot that spent 16-18 months in 40% new French oak. It exhibits an attractive perfume of roasted herbs, coffee, tobacco, and sweet black cherries and plums, medium body, noticeable tannin, and a ripe, austere personality. It will drink well for 15+ years. |

2004 |
Proprietary Blend |
$295 |

WA 97 (4/2014): Like so many 2004s, the 2004 Dominus is a full-bodied wine showing brilliantly at age ten, with loads of complex cedar, kirsch, Christmas fruitcake, black currants and spice box. It has a creamy, opulent texture, but remains light on its feet. This sexy wine is showing exceptionally well and is best drunk over the next 10-15 years. Not one of the longest-lived wines from Dominus, but it is certainly at a wonderful point in its evolution right now. VM 91+ (6/2007): Deep red-ruby. Deep but reticent aromas of dark raspberry, cocoa powder, hot rocks and minerals, with notes of menthol and wintermint. Very firmly built and backward, conveying a tightly coiled spring for a 2004, and an almost Saint-Estephe-like menthol austerity. Though a bit tough and youthfully green, this firmly structured wine is quite aromatic on the back and opened nicely with aeration. Give this a lot of time in the decanter if you plan to open a bottle anytime soon. WS 89 (11/2007): Firm, tight and concentrated, with dried currant, black cherry and wild berry fruit that's well-structured, finishing with a tight core of tannins. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Drink now through 2013. 5,600 cases made. |

WA 78 (12/2014): The 2012 Pinot Noir Sonoma Coma has an unusual label. The color is medium ruby, and the wine is clipped, compact and uninspiring, although it offers pleasurable sweet cherry and wild strawberry on the nose and the attack. However, it falls off quickly. Drink it up. |

$249 |

VM 92 (4/2023): The 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon Trailside is a dark, powerful wine with bruising tannins and plenty of intensity. Dark-fleshed fruit, scorched earth, leather, tar, licorice and cloves add to an impression of burly intensity. The 2001 is not especially polished, but it has aged well, better than many wines in this vintage. Drink between 2021-2028. Antonio Galloni. |

2001 |
Insignia Proprietary Blend (1.5 L) |
$595 |
6 |
WA 98+ (11/2013): Still a young wine at age 12, the 2001 Insignia exhibits a dense purple color along with a sweet bouquet of camphor, blackberries, cassis, incense and spring flowers. Full-bodied, rich and heady with sweet tannin, stunning concentration and a fabulous finish, this remarkable Insignia has 25 or more years of life ahead of it. VM 95+ (4/2016): (from an early harvest, like 2015; the first vintage of a ten-year spell without any Cabernet Franc): Dark red with ruby highlights. The aromas of currant, graphite minerality and dark chocolate convey an inviting warmth. Wonderfully suave, fleshy and sweet, especially for its 13.9% alcohol. Deep, broad flavors of raspberry, sandalwood and soy are energized by a subtle mineral quality and harmonious acidity. Outstanding intensity and tight grain here. Finishes with serious but integrated tannins that spread out horizontally on the very long finish. This wonderfully balanced, still-young wine has clearly benefited from the firming influence of its 8% Petit Verdot element, the highest to this point. Incidentally, this was the last vintage of the Insignia with measurable brettanomyces--but it works for me! WS 88 (6/2011): Enticing aromas of mixed berries, mocha, cedar and tobacco. Full-bodied, focused and intense, with touches of mature flavors that turn simpler and fade on the finish. Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Malbec. Drink now. 18,000 cases made. |

$375 |

WA 94 (12/2006): The 2003 Insignia (15,000 cases) performed much better this year than last, when I tasted it right after bottling. A blend of 84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Petit Verdot and the rest Malbec and Merlot, it offers up attractive aromas of licorice, black currants, espresso roast, and background toasty oak. Full-bodied, opulent, and rich with Outstanding depth, purity, and harmony, sweet tannin, and a long finish, it is approachable now, but will easily last for 20 years. VM 92 (6/2006): (a blend of 84% cabernet sauvignon, 10% petit verdot, 3% merlot and 3% malbec) Full ruby-red. Slightly jammy aromas of blackberry, mocha and dark chocolate. Not especially dense or fleshy but has an attractive juicy quality and good life. Dominated by a flavor of black raspberry. Finishes with big, firm, rather fine tannins. WS 90 (10/2006): Supple, polished and harmonious, though not in the class of the 2002. Nonetheless, delivers a complex range of rich currant, berry and cherry fruit, cedary oak, hints of anise and sage, and a persistent, lingering finish. Mildly tannic. Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Malbec and Merlot. Drink now through 2011. 12,000 cases made. |

Cumulus Vyd. No. 15 Proprietary Blend |
$349 |
3 |
VM 99 (8/2024): The 2021 No. 15 Cumulus Vineyard is a total stunner. It's also a pretty radical departure from most years in that Grenache drives the blend. That comes through in the wine's captivating aromatics and gorgeous, layered fruit. Crushed rose petal, red cherry, plum, mint, mocha and dried herbs infuse the palate with notable depth. The 2021 is flat-out stunning—that’s all there is to it. The blend is 40% Grenache, 34% Syrah, 22% Petite Sirah and 4% Petit Manseng. There's a touch of stem inclusion (7%), but not much. Drink between 2027-2041. Antonio Galloni. WA 93 (8/2024): Aged for 30 months in 53% new French oak, the 2021 Cumulus Vineyard No. 15 combines 40% Grenache, 34% Syrah, 22% Petite Sirah and 4% Petit Manseng. The nose combines towering red and black fruit aromas supplemented with herbal, citrus and tobacco accents that assemble around a perceptible core of ethanol. The palate is polished and seamless, with a bit more grace than found elsewhere in the lineup, but ultimately defined by similar luxurious, voluptuous textures and sweet-fruited concentration. The finish displays vibrant acidity and rich, swelling, fine-grained tannins but concludes with an alcohol-induced burn. The textures and overall vision on display here are to be admired, but the ultimate complexity, age-worthiness and balance are on their back foot due to the spirituous nature of much of the lineup. Drink between 2024-2030. |

Numero Siete Touriga Nacional |
$399.99 |
1 |
VM 98+ (8/2024): The 2021 Touriga Nacional - Número Sete is terrific, but it is also a very young wine that will need time in bottle to blossom. All of the pedigree of this great vintage comes through loud and clear. Readers should plan on cellaring this for at least a few years. Dried herbs, lavender, licorice and cool, blue-toned fruit are all beautifully delineated throughout. Dollops of Syrah and Petit Manseng round out the blend, with an added kick of floral nuance from the 11% stems. Drink between 2027-2041. Antonio Galloni. WA 94 (8/2024): Sourced from the Krankl's Cumulus Vineyard and containing 14% Syrah and 4% Petit Manseng, the 2021 Touriga Nacional Número Sete spent 30 months in 42% new French oak. Nearly completely opaque in color, the nose opens with deep, dense aromas of dried clove, tobacco leaf, graphite, black plums and chocolate-covered dark fruit aromas, with increasingly savory and woody notes appearing after time in the glass. The palate is an absolute behemoth, with a blocky, gargantuan density that reaches its logical conclusion in a staining, saturated, concentrated finish framed with chewy tannins. This is equally clear testimony to the sheer mass achievable with Touriga Nacional and the lavish decadence that can be applied to it if one desires. Drink between 2024-2030. |

VM 94 (5/2019): The 2016 Pinot Noir Occidental Station is another stand out in this range. High-toned, aromatically expressive and silky, the 2016 is incredibly harmonious. Today, the Occidental Station is the most open-knit and sensual of the wines, which makes it easier to drink on the earlier side. Silky tannins add to the wine's considerable appeal. The inclusion of 25% whole clusters adds nuance throughout. Antonio Galloni. |

Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Nicked Label |
$95 |

WA 90 (12/1996): In my October tasting both 1993 Cabernets were more tannic and closed than the 1992s. The 1993 Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley offers up a whiff of herbs in its tight nose, followed by chocolatey, spicy, black-cherry, and cassis flavors, an exotic, medium to full-bodied, concentrated palate, and moderate tannin in the lusty finish. It does not possess the definition and structure of the Napa cuvee, but it is more forward and fleshy. These All-American Cabernet Sauvignons continue to be "can't miss" propositions with the majority of Cabernet lovers. WS 86 (11/2003): A classic Silver Oak, with signature dill aromas. Shows earth, currant, lead pencil and metallic flavors, turning dry and tannic.--1993 California Cabernet retrospective. Drink now. 40,000 cases made. |

WA 90 (2/2005): The 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley (by the way, all of the Alexander Valley offerings are 100% Cabernet Sauvignon) has a big, sweet, oaky nose and a seductive panoply of spices from cedarwood to plum pudding and fruitcake notes. It is a sexy, sensual, broad, flavorful Cabernet lacking serious depth, but offering attractive fruit, plenty of ripeness, and a big wallop of American oak. Drink it over the next decade. |

WA 90 (12/2005): The Alexander Valley cuvee is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon aged in new oak. The 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley offers abundant quantities of spice, vanillin, cedar, herbs, and smoke, soft, round, creamy-textured flavors, good black cherry and currant notes, and a spicy, medium-bodied, easy-going personality. Enjoy it over the next 7-10 years. VM 88 (6/2006): Bright red-ruby. Aromas of currant, chocolate, graphite, cedar and menthol, with a powerful overlay of pungent American oak. Round, ripe and surprisingly creamy and generous in the mouth, with fruit-driven flavors of currant, graphite and chocolate. Finishes with substantial, building oak tannins that manage to avoid coming off as dry. WS 86 (11/2006): Supple, with creamy vanilla and mocha oak providing a nice flavor dimension, joining dried currant, anise and sage flavors. Drink now through 2010. 70,000 cases made. |

Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon |
$89 |

VM 89 (6/2009): Good deep red-ruby. Dark berries, black cherry and licorice on the nose, with a less exaggerated oak element despite the fact that this was aged in 95% new American barrels. Not particularly sweet, but the mid-palate offers better grip and lift than the 2004, with laid-back flavors of currant, plum and tobacco leaf. Finishes with substantial, slightly dry tannins and good persistence. Incidentally, the production of this wine was increased in the early part of this decade and is now in the 75,000 case range. WS 82 (11/2009): Tight, tannic and full-bodied, with chewy cedar, dried currant, sage and herbal notes. Gains complexity despite the chewy tannins and may reward short-term cellaring. Drink now through 2015. 74,000 cases made. |

VM 88 (2/2006): Saturated ruby-red. Oaky aromas of cassis, plum, cola and dark chocolate. Very ripe and chocolatey, with supple, somewhat low-toned flavors of currant, dark plum, tobacco and earth. Finishes sweet and persistent, with slightly dry-edged, earthy flavors of sassafras and sweet tobacco. Very Stags Leap in character. WS 83 (10/2006): A bit murky, with earth- and herb-laced currant fruit that has a dry, austere edge and ends with leathery flavors. Drink now through 2009. JD 98+ (8/2023): Based on 88% Graciano and 12% Syrah, the inky hued 2020 Graciano saw 47% whole cluster and spent 33.5 months in 72% new Frnech oak. It has a full-bodied, tannic, structured style and gorgeous ripe black cherry and plum fruits as well as ground pepper, new leather, scorched earth and hints of iron. Deep, rich, and massively concentrated, with lots of tannins, this behemoth of a Graciano that needs 4-5 years of bottle age and will knock your socks off over the following 20 years. Drink between 2027-2048. VM 98 (9/2023): The 2020 Graciano is fabulous. Dark, dense and explosive, the Graciano is once again superb in 2020. Bacon fat, plum, black cherry, gravel, sage and menthol infuse the 2020 with tremendous character as well as nuance. What a wine. I love the energy here. Sadly, production is tiny. The blend in 88% Graciano and 12% Syrah, done with 47% stems and aged for about 34 months in barrel, 72% new. I would but every bottle I can get my hands on! Drink between 2025-2038. VM 100 (8/2024): What a wine. Vibrant and dense, with stunning balance, the 2021 is spectacularly vivid from start to finish. All the elements are so harmonious. Inky dark red/purplish fruit, pomegranate, spice, blood orange and leather saturate the palate while salivating acids extend the finish. I have tasted many magnificent wines with Elaine and Mnafred Krankl over the years- their 2021 Graciano is, without question, one of the most memorable. The blend is 87% Graciano, 10% Syrah, 3% Viognier, done with 48% stems and aged for around 33 months in French oak (36% new). Don't miss it! Drink between 2025-2036. Antonio Galloni. |

$279.99 |

WA 98+ (8/2021): Deep purple-black colored, the glass needed a fair bit of swirling to unlock this wine’s wonderfully pure scents of baked black plums, blackberry pie and boysenberries, leading to an undercurrent of fruitcake, Indian spices, unsmoked cigars and cracked black pepper. The full-bodied palate is a powerhouse of fruit, bursting with black berry preserves and exotic spice layers, framed with a solid line of firm, ripe tannins and wonderful freshness, finishing with incredible persistence and purity. This beautiful monster of a wine should be pretty much indestructible, capable of cellaring for 40+ years. Drink between 2026-2061. VM 96 (8/2024): The 2021 Nuestra Senora del Tercer Gemelo offers a capitvating mix of opulent fruit and energy, all framed by judicious French oak and silky tannins. A dense, full-bodied wine, the Nuestra Senora has so much to offer, starting with its immediacy. This full-throttle red is undeniably glorious. The blend is 57% Mourvedre, 14% Grenache, 14% Graciano, 14% Syrah, and 1% Viognier, done with 33% stems. It spent 31 months in French oak, 31% new. Drink between 2025-2036. Antonio Galloni. |
