JD 93 (3/2023): A forward, textured, already delicious wine, the 2020 Château Labégorce offers lots of red and black fruit as well as notes of cedar, smoke tobacco, and chocolate. Based on 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot, and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, aged in 40% new barrels, it has perfectly integrated oak, ripe, fine-grained tannins, and outstanding overall balance. Give bottles just a year or three and enjoy over the following 10-15 years or more. VM 93 (2/2023): The 2020 Labegorce, matured in 40% new oak, has a fragrant, floral bouquet with wilted rose petals infusing the lively red cherry and crushed strawberry fruit. There is something"airy" about the aromatics here. The palate is slightly honeyed in texture, saturated tannins, a mixture of red and black fruit commingling with white pepper and iodine. Great persistence and salinity on the finish - an excellent, quite substantial Margaux for long-term ageing. Neal Martin. JS 92-93 (4/2021): A tight, compact Labegorce with blackcurrant, walnut and some graphite. It’s medium-to full-bodied with a solid core of tannins and fruit. Some lead pencil. Very structured for this estate. |

|
WA 87 (12/1989): The Combe aux Moines has an intense flavor of old wines, a rich, chewy, lush texture, moderate rather than excessive tannins, and a huge finish. It should be superb between 1990-1995. |

VM 92 (2/2001): Red-ruby. Expressive nose combines currant, roast coffee, chicory, underbrush and smoke. Suave yet penetrating in the mouth, with complex flavors of redcurrant, iron, minerals, smoke and tobacco. Finishes with dusty tannins and excellent length, though there still some acidity to be absorbed. This is showing well now, though its slightly more advanced aromatics suggest it will not be as long-lived as the '99. WS 96 (12/2000): What a great wine. Full-bodied, with crushed berry, smoke and grilled aromas, all presented quite subtly. Stands out for its natural, down-to-earth taste of clean, pure, shining fruit. A pleasure to drink. Tempting now. Best from 2003 through 2015. |

VM 93 (8/2018): Bright orange-pink. A complex bouquet displays ripe, mineral-accented red berries, citrus fruits, nectarine and pungent flowers, along with a subtle and exotic touch of honey. Offers palate-coating strawberry liqueur, blood orange and lavender flavors that unfold and deepen steadily on the back half. The pit fruit quality sneaks back in on and impressively long, penetrating finish that shows excellent clarity and powerful mineral thrust. (Drink between 2020-2024). Josh Raynolds. |

JD 91 (12/2022): A more Syrah-dominated release, the 2020 Languedoc Puech Noble has a beautiful bouquet of red and blue fruits as well as violets, spring flowers, and peppery herbs. With medium-bodied richness on the palate, it has a good sense of purity and elegance, fine tannins, and a great finish. This seriously good Languedoc will keep for 5-7 years at a minimum. (Drink between 2022-2030). |

JS 95 (7/2021): Complex nose of wet ferns, wild berries and smoke. As cool and still as it is deep in the woods, this concentrated, tightly wound wine is just beginning to open up. Very classic, stony finish with noble austerity. Drinkable now, but best from 2023. Screw cap. WA 92+ (9/2021): Lauer’s 2020 Kupp GG Fass 18 shows a clear and pure yet intense, still a bit yeasty bouquet. The palate is quite rich and powerful but elegant, revealing a Kupp that needs some years to develop more finesse and charm. The wine is quite intense and lush and provided with tannins that still dry the palate a bit. Tasted in Wiesbaden in August 2021. |

Walla Walla Valley Cabernet Sauvignon |
$109 |

|
WA 94 (8/2010): The 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon (76%) also contains 17% Merlot, 4% Carmenere, and 3% Malbec. It was aged for 22 months in a mix of new and used French oak. The nose displays herbs, olives, Asian spices, coffee/mocha, a hint of balsamic, black currant, and blackberry. This leads to a savory, intense, incipiently complex Cabernet that will benefit from 5-7 years of additional cellaring to show its full potential. It will be in its prime from 2015 to 2027. VM 92+ (12/2010): Bright, deep medium ruby. Complex nose offers cassis, mocha, minerals, licorice and menthol, lifted by pepper and herb nuances. Sweet, suave, rich and smooth but initially unforthcoming, with flavors of cassis, chocolate, herbs and licorice; a distinct minerality contributes to the wine's backward impression. The broad, long finish features strong building tannins and a serious backbone for aging. A very tricky wine: I tasted two different bottles in Walla Walla that lacked the normal verve of this bottling, but I was unable to follow them with extended aeration. This third bottle, tasted in New York, got better and better with air, becoming more harmonious and sophisticated while gaining in energy. This should be cellared for at least five or six years. WS 91 (10/2010): Firm in texture, with orange-scented red berry and red pepper flavors mingling effectively and persisting nicely against the tannins. This develops a sense of refinement on the long, medium-weight finish. Best from 2012 through 2017. 2,953 cases made. |

Finca Altamira Mendoza Malbec Bin-Soiled Label |
$100 |

|
WA 95+ (8/2009): The 2007 Finca Altamira was sourced from a 14-acre, 80+-year-old vineyard with yields of 0.75 tons per acre. It was aged in new French oak for 15 months. Opaque purple/black in color, it has an entrancing aromatic array of pain grille, pencil lead, scorched earth, truffle, black cherry, and plum. Opulent on the palate but with a bit more elegance than the Bella Vista cuvee, it is already revealing complex flavors along with its considerable depth, richness, and length. It will continue to blossom for another 3-4 years and offer prime drinking from 2013 to 2022. VM 90+ (2/2010): Saturated, bright dark ruby. Very floral nose features violet, jasmine and licorice. At once dry and perfumed in the mouth, with a light touch to the intense blackberry and violet flavors. Quite brisk and extremely young, with elevated acidity in need of time to harmonize. The note of exotic flowers carries through to the vibrant back end. Reportedly from a crop level of just 12 hectoliters per hectare. Stephen Tanzer. |
