| VM NR (5/2017): The more ethereal side of the vintage comes through in the 2011 Barolo Otin Fiorin Piè Franco. Silky, lifted and gracious, the 2011 Franco is a wine of aromatic intensity and grace. Once again, I am so impressed with the wine's presence. The Franco is usually ethereal and fleeting, but not here. The 2016 is a bold wine that demands attention. Dark red fruit, sage, iron, leather, licorice and rose petal open with a bit of coaxing. Readers who can find the 2016 are in for a real treat. It is without question one of the wines of the vintage. | VM NR (2/2019): The 2014 Barolo Barolo Rupestris is a very pretty, fragrant wine. In this vintage, the Rupestris is a bit more ethereal than it usually is, and yet there is a lovely underpinning of structure that gives the wine its shape. Beautifully perfumed and gracious, the 2014 Rupestris opens with enticing scents of sweet tobacco, mint, dried herbs, orange peel, dried cherry, cedar and rose petal. The 2014 should drink well with minimal cellaring, but I expect it will also age gracefully while retaining its somewhat delicate feel. (Drink between 2020-2034) |

Hints of dried flowers, sage, mint and crushed raspberry develop in the glass, but more than anything, the Rupestris is a wine of breadth and resonance. The 2015 marries hedonistic pleasure with classicism in a wine that is truly compelling. |
