BH 93 (1/2011): ( from a .27 ha parcel, most of which is young vines of 15+ years though there is a parcel approximating 15% of the total with <40 years of age.) This is a very ripe '08 with a layered, elegant and nuanced nose that combines red pinot fruit, oak, warm earth and wet stone notes that seamlessly give way to round, rich and full-bodied flavors that possess a sleek muscularity on the beautifully textured and mineral-driven finish. This is a big, indeed very powerful wine in the context of the vintage and it should age brilliantly. Drink 2020+. |

VM 91-93 (5/2011): The 2009 Morey St. Denis Chenevery is more about elegance than power. Floral notes play a big role in giving the Chenevery its bright, high-toned personality. Still, there is more than enough underlying structure to support cellaring. Crushed flowers, anise and minerals frame the exquisite finish. The soils are rich in limestone, which contributes much of the freshness. Antonio Galloni. |

BH 92 (1/2017): An adroit application of oak frames the exceptionally fresh and distinctly earthy red currant and plum suffused nose that displays top notes of violets and menthol. There is impressive richness and volume to the powerful medium-bodied flavors that exhibit moderate austerity on the highly persistent, firm and mouth coating finish. While less refined than either the Charmes or the Faconnières, this is still on the elegant side in the context of what is typical. Recommended. Drink 2026+.Outstanding! |

BH 92 (1/2011): (from 60+ year old vines) This is perhaps more obviously '08 in style with a hint of the herbal influence on the otherwise pure, elegant and quite classy nose of red and blue pinot fruit that merges into supple and round medium weight flavors that possess good extract that buffers the linear and lingering finish. This is a bit less austere than the Chenevery but overall, it's cut from the same cloth. Drink 2018+. Outstanding! WA 91-92 (6/2010): ”You never have to do anything to improve on the fruit of these old vines,” remarks Virgile Lignier of his 2008 Morey-St.-Denis Les Faconnieres, “they are always in shape.” The resultant wine from this cru that has only two non-Lignier owners is in athletically lean good health as well. Exuberant dark plum and cherry fruit with a tart fruit skin edge and piquantly cyanic notes of fruit pit mingle with village-typical high-toned, bittersweet herbal concentrates on a palate of infectious juiciness and exhilarating lift. Hints of soy, peat, and the aforementioned tart and bitter notes interact with the fruit in a display of energy as well as umami that I suspect won’t run short over the next 12-15 years. VM 89+ (3/2011): Good full, medium red. Wild aromas of smoke, underbrush and spices. Fat and sweet but a bit less vibrant than the Cheneverys. Ultimately rather closed on the back half, showing notes of spice and game but not quite the verve or nuance of the Cheneverys. This will need several years to integrate its tannins. |

BH 92 (1/2012): A more restrained nose of cassis, plum, violets and earth marries into seductively textured, lacy and ultra-pure flavors that are wonderfully refined, indeed to the point where they possess a silky mouth feel and culminate in a superbly long and punchy finish that is the epitome of finesse. This offers excellent quality. Dirnk 2019+. |

VM 91-93 (2/2012): The 2010 Morey St. Denis Les Faconnières saturates every corner of the palate with tremendous depth in its fruit. It possesses striking minerality, which serves to balance some of the wine's more overt, bold tendencies. The high percentage of clay in this site gives the wine its broad shoulders. Antonio Galloni. |

BH 91-93 (1/2014): (From 60+ year old vines, 50% whole cluster). Here the nose isn't quite as spicy as that of the Chezeaux though it's otherwise similar with terrific depth that continues onto the lacy yet punchy middle weight plus flavors that possess fine size, weight and power. This is a classic example of a wine that displays power without weight because it's really quite refined plus the length is remarkable. One to strongly consider. Drink 2022+. Outstanding! |

WA 93 (6/2015): The 2013 Morey Saint Denis 1er Cru Faconnières comes from 70-year-old vines and includes 50% whole-cluster fruit. It has a more understated bouquet compared to Virgile’s other ‘13s from the appellation, but don’t be fooled: this has superb delineation and focus, real mineralité underneath those broody black fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannin – an overarching structure here with a dash of black pepper judiciously sprinkled over the dense, fresh and vibrant finish. This is a superb example from the appellation and one of the domaine’s finest contributions to the vintage. |

BH 92 (1/2017): An expressive, dense and markedly floral nose is quite ripe but with good freshness on the red and dark berry fruit, earthy and gamy aromas. There is terrific power and concentration to the stony, muscular and mouth coating large-scaled flavors that deliver huge length on the impressively complex and youthfully austere finale. Like its 2015 counterpart, this is a really lovely combination of power and refinement though patience will definitely be required. Drink 2024+. Outstanding! |
