| VM 89 (2/2022): The 2018 Barolo from Margherita Otto is a pretty wine, but it also comes across as lacking in freshness, as is evidenced by its forward profile and slightly advanced color. Dried cherry, tobacco, spice, cedar and tobacco open gently with a bit aeration. It will be interesting to see if the 2018 gains a bit more mid-palate depth in bottle. (Drink between 2024-2036). | JD 96 (5/2024): Medium red with a tinge of orange, the 2020 Barolo is fresh and spicy, with aromas of raspberries, mint, anise, and fresh leather. Medium-bodied, it has ripe tannins, fresh acidity, and a long, clean finish. Its fruit perfume lasts long on the back palate, and it has a weightless feel. A very pretty and elegant red, give it another year or two and drink over the following 15 years. Audrey Frick. |
