VM 92 (7/2013): Bright ruby-red. Sexy, floral- and spice-accented aromas of red berry liqueur and potpourri, with a hint of vanilla in the background. Silky and precise, offering energetic raspberry and floral pastille flavors and a touch of dusty minerals. Finishes lively, focused and long, with resonating spiciness, a hint of anise and slow-building tannins. Josh Raynolds. |

VM 93+ (7/2013): The 2009 Pinot Noir Diane Cobb: Coastlands Vineyard is sublime, delicate and beautifully layered from start to finish. An understated, gracious wine, the 2009 comes across as much more reticent than the other wines in the range. Because of the long elevage, the 2009 is still pretty shut down. Still, it is impossible to miss the wine's pedigree and sheer class. With time in the glass, the fruit blossoms beautifully, but the Diane Cobb has less overt sweetness than the straight Coastlands. This is an impressive showing from Ross Cobb, who dedicated this wine to his later mother. (Drink between 2013-2020). Antonio Galloni. BH 88 (10/2012): This is also quite perfumed with an expressive nose of upper register raspberry and cherry liqueur with top notes of cranberry as well as hints of blue berry and spice. There is just enough oak to notice on the very rich, suave and generous medium weight flavors that possess a seductive texture. This leans towards the fruit-driven side on the finish yet there is enough depth to remain interesting as well as solid length. A very pretty if not particularly deep offering. (Drink starting 2014). |

VM 92+ (7/2013): The 2010 Pinot Noir Diane Cobb: Coastlands Vineyard has an extra level of mid-palate juiciness and depth next to the straight Coastlands bottling. Sweet, dense and perfumed, the 2010 is all about texture and perfume, of course in the restrained style of the vintage. Readers who can resist the temptation of opening bottles for at least a few years will be on for a real treat. (Drink between 2013-2031). Antonio Galloni. WA 92 (11/2020): Pale garnet, the 2010 Pinot Noir Diane Cobb Coastlands Vineyard has an incredible perfume of violets, tea leaves, tangerine and loads of dried, sweet red berry fruits with alluring earth and amaro accents. The light-bodied palate is so elegant, with chocolaty tannins, seamless freshness and delicate, pure sweet berry fruits, finishing long, uplifted and ethereal. Wow! What a gorgeous, mature Sonoma Cost Pinot Noir. |

VM 93 (4/2018): The 2014 Pinot Noir Diane Cobb: Coastlands Vineyard is precise and nuanced, with striking aromatic complexity to play off the dark red cherry fruit. The 50% whole clusters are not especially evident. Medium in body, gracious and lifted, the 2014 has a lot to offer. Cedar, tobacco, dried herbs and dried cherry notes are laced together in this attractive, mid-weight Pinot, with clean, saline notes that support the long, super-expressive finish. (Drink between 2020-2029). Antonio Galloni. WA 89 (11/2020): The 2014 Pinot Noir Diane Cobb Coastlands Vineyard opens with tar, scorched earth and rubber aromas obscuring a core of blackberry fruits. The medium-bodied palate is firm and somewhat rustic. Time to drink up. |

Emmaline Ann Vyd. Pinot Noir |

|
WA 92 (11/2020): The 2011 Pinot Noir Emmaline Ann Vineyard opens with tar and scorched earth aromas that flesh out to dried red berries and citrus peel notes. The medium-bodied palate maintains a core of dark, broody fruit in a firm frame, and it finishes long and detailed. It's in a great spot for drinking right now. VM 90 (6/2014): Bright red. Fresh raspberry and cherry-cola on the deeply scented nose and in the mouth. Supple and less tangy than its siblings this year, showing good breadth and a hint of building smokiness. Closes sweet and long, with building floral and spice notes and youthfully gripping tannins. There's a good amount of clay in this vineyard, which gives the wine a roundness virtually every vintage, notes Ross Cobb. Josh Raynolds. |

Jack Hill Vyd. Pinot Noir |
$59 |

|
VM 92 (7/2013): The 2009 Pinot Noir Jack Hill Vineyard, from a site south of Occidental, is arguably the most immediate of the 2009 Pinots in this range. Dark red cherries, exotic spices, licorice and cloves all flesh out in a radiant, expressive Pinot that impresses for its accessibility. Even though the Jack Hill is quite open today, there is plenty of underlying structure to support years of positive development in bottle. A creamy, expressive finish rounds things out in style. The Jack Hill was made from fully de-stemmed fruit. (Drink between 2015-2025.) Antonio Galloni. |

Rice-Spivak Vyd. Pinot Noir |
$45 |

|
|
WA 91 (11/2020): The 2011 Pinot Noir Rice Spivak Vineyard has a pale ruby color and takes time to open to aromas of saline, dried red berries, iodine and wafts of floral potpourri. The palate is medium-bodied and firm, with a slow flourish of spicy red fruits, and it finishes long, delicate and lifted. It’s a very pretty, mature expression of Rice Spivak. |

State Lane Vyd. Cabernet Sauvignon Lightly Wine-Stained Label |

WA 98 (12/2012): The 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon Grand Vin opens with the most beguiling bouquet imaginable. Freshly cut flowers, mint, cinnamon and licorice all make an appearance as this vivid, beautifully delineated wine opens up in the glass. A model of total finesse and elegance, the 2009 wraps around the palate with what feels like endless layers of aromas and flavors. This totally seamless, polished Cabernet Sauvignon is virtually impossible to resist today, but it will be even better in another few years. The 2009 is 96% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Merlot and 1% Cabernet Franc. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2039. VM 95 (5/2012): (includes 3% merlot and 1% cabernet franc): Good bright medium ruby. Spectacular nose offers crushed blackberry, cassis, licorice, violet and minerals complicated by leather and game. Lush, silky and deep, with enticing floral lift for the vintage. Big, powerful but very fine tannins are thoroughly coated by fruit on the extremely long finish. Conveys a somewhat higher-pH mouth feel than the more gripping 2010 version but this vintage may have even riper tannins. WS 93 (11/2012): A substantial effort that weaves together dense, earthy, clay-laced currant, dark berry, sage and cedar. Slow to unfold, but does so gracefully and gets better with each sip. Best from 2013 through 2028. 480 cases made. |

|
WS 88 (7/2003): A rich, loamy, earthy streak runs through this currant-, herb- and olive- laced wine that's dense and concentrated, finishing with a strong earth and coffee ground finish. Some may find it too earthy and lacking in vibrant fruit. Best from 2004 through 2010. 522 cases made. WA 87-89 (8/2002): The dark ruby/purple-colored 2000 Cabernet Sauvignon Stagecoach Vineyard (540 cases) is a firm-structured effort with blue and black fruit notes, medium body, sweet tannin, and a moderately long finish. It is an excellent offering from a vineyard on Pritchard Hill in eastern Napa. |

Pinot Noir |

WA 96 (8/2009): An exceptional effort from 10-year-old vines, this dense ruby/purple-hued, full-bodied Pinot Noir exhibits a killer aromatic display of black raspberries, forest floor, spring flowers, cola, and a subtle hint of smoke. Although extravagantly rich, it is not overweight, but rather well-delineated and pure. This is a full-bodied tour de force in Pinot Noir winemaking that has the aromatic complexity of a grand cru Burgundy, but the sensational fruit, glycerin, texture, and mouthfeel of the golden state of California. Drink it over the next 8-10 years. VM 90 (12/2009): Vivid red. Intensely perfumed aromas of black raspberry, Asian spices, anise and potpourri; this could be used as incense. Energetic red and dark berry flavors are complemented by deeper notes of cola and oak spice, with velvety tannins adding support. Very suave pinot, with sweet vanillin oak and spicecake notes lingering on the long, sappy finish. Very modern to be sure but this is awfully tasty. |

WA 98 (8/2010): An absolutely stunning fireworks display of aromatics emerges when the nose gets close to the glass of this dense ruby/purple-colored wine. Foresty notes, spring flowers, black raspberry, black currants, sweet cherry, and sassafras all jump from the glass. Extremely layered, velvety-textured, and opulent, with a finish that goes on for 50 seconds, this full-bodied wine has extraordinary concentration, purity, and “gravitas.” It is a sensational wine that should drink well for up to a decade. Bravo! VM 90 (12/2010): Vivid ruby. Lively aromas of crushed red berries, spicecake and cracked pepper. At once velvety and firm, with energetic black raspberry and cherry flavors accentuated by pepper and herbs. Smooth and sweet on the finish, which features fine-grained tannins and a kiss of candied rose. Josh Raynolds. |

VM 90+ (12/2011): Bright ruby-red. Deeply pitched aromas of cherry-cola and dark berries, with a strong kick of fresh flowers. Juicy and broad on entry, then tighter in the mid-palate, offering dense red and dark berry flavors and a late note of bitter chocolate. In a serious style, with strong finishing grip and building sweetness. Jeff Pisoni told me that his fruit showed the most extract ever attained here, "probably the result of four straight years of drought." Josh Raynolds. WA 84 (10/2024): Well into its second decade, the 2009 Pinot Noir Estate signals that its best days were before the end of its first. What remains are tired, stewed fruit and cola aromas coalescing around toasted remnants of new oak and a core of alcohol. The winemaking at Pisoni has thankfully been refined since this era, and although the wines are still decidedly ripe and clearly marked by their barrel program, I am hopeful that recent vintages will age more gracefully. |
