JD 91 (12/2022): A great introduction to the wines of this terrific vigneron, the 2020 Saint Joseph Silice has classic darker berry fruits as well as peppery herbs, violets, and some obvious minerality on both the nose and palate. These carry to a medium-bodied effort with good acidity, firm yet ripe tannins, and outstanding length.
WS 91 (5/2022): Delivers vivid blackberry, violet and ripe plum flavors that are up front and generous on the palate, hemmed in by a savory vein of mineral and crushed graphite. Supple and tasty, this has a gentle frame, with dried thyme, incense and singed apple wood notes on the medium-length finish. Delicious now and will continue to evolve beautifully. Drink now through 2027. 750 cases made, 150 cases imported.
JS 91 (2/2022): An interesting nose of blackberries and blueberries with some graphite and leather adding interest. Robust structure for a St.-Joseph with plenty of pepper and spice, but the fruit is more than adequate to carry all this. Good length, if not tremendously complex. Sustainable. Drinkable now, but best from 2023. |

WA 89-91 (1/2022): Blended from several parcels and barrels for my evaluation, the 2020 Cote Rotie La Chana usually contains approximately 7% Viognier and sees no new wood. It shows attractive aromas of raspberries and apricot on the nose, a medium to full-bodied feel on the palate and a savory finish that nicely balances mouthwatering acids and softly dusty tannins. It should drink well for the rest of this decade. |

WA 89-92 (12/2013): Starting off, the 2011 Gigondas is a Grenache dominated blend that’s aged in a combination of concrete tank and French oak. Offering up loads of spice-box, dried cedar plank, tobacco leaf and sweet red fruits, this medium-bodied, rich and nicely textured 2011 has low acidity and sweet tannin. Drink it over the coming 7-8 years.
JLL *** (12/2012): Medium, steady red robe. Has a spiced, cloves air - sweet spices, with a fat air of plum behind. The nose isn’t fully ensemble, and has light floral possibilities. Some promise here, thus. The palate doesn’t leave a strong impression for now. It holds clean-cut, arm’s length red fruit, with spicing on the second half, and adhesive tannins which start clearly, then become gummy. A middle of the road traveller here. From mid-2014.
VM 89-90 (1/2014): Bright red. Ripe cherry and raspberry scents are lifted by notes of allspice and white pepper. Shows darker fruit character on the palate, with juicy black raspberry joined by cherry-cola. Closes spicy and firm, with slow-building tannins and a touch of spicecake. |

| JD 89 (5/2024): The 2021 Côtes du Rhône Couzou Blanc is based on Marsanne, Roussanne, and Viognier, all from more granitic soils. It has a light gold hue as well as a subtle nose of ripe stone fruits, honeyed orange, and spice, and it's medium-bodied, nicely textured, and nicely balanced on the palate. It has a good sense of freshness, but it's certainly a rich white that's going to shine on the dinner table. |

WA 93 (6/2023): The citrusy, mentholated 2022 Bandol Rosé was crafted with a blend of 65% Mourvèdre and 35% Cinsault and matured six months in barrels. It displays aromas of pomegranate, citrus, spring flowers, iodine, jasmine and crushed stones, followed by a beautifully defined texture, a fleshy core of fruit and racy acids that underpin a delicate, well-delineated and calcareous finish. It's going to drink nicely in its youth, but I suspect it will also age gracefully over the next 2-5 years.
WS 92 (8/2023): A distinctive, beautifully harmonious rosé, with a pronounced dusting of fleur de sel over melon, red berry and plum flavors, all spiked by singed herbs and dried flowers. Boasts blood orange acidity that drives impressive length, building in concentration toward the finish. Offers abundant intrigue and pleasure, with just the right amount of richness. Mourvèdre and Cinsault. Drink now through 2032.
VM 91 (5/2023): The 2022 Rosé is savory and sweet with a rich blend of rosemary, sage and tomato leaf, giving way to dried cherries. It's silky-smooth and round with a buzz of minerality and brisk acidity up front as ginger-spiked nectarine forms toward the close. This tapers off with a salty flourish. VM 93 (2/2016): Dark golden-yellow. Diesel fuel, baked apple, caramel and botanical herbs on the nose. Then tangy in the mouth, showing slightly high-toned aromas of orange oil, pineapple and sweet herbs. A very concentrated, big wine but with a fine-grained texture and just enough freshness on the long, saline, palate-staining finish. Less acid-dominated than I might have expected from a 2008. Drink between 2017-2030. Ian D'Agata.
WA 91 (5/2011): Scents and palate suffusion of iodine and shrimp shell reduction lend the Beyer 2008 Riesling Comtes d’Eguisheim every bit as minerally a cast – albeit of a very different sort – as its Ecaillers counterpart. High-toned whiffs of pit fruit distillates and mothball pique the nose. Saliva-inducing, saline savor is mingled with yellow plum and zesty grapefruit, while hazelnut, pistachio, and fruit pit add piquancy to an impressively sustained finish. This is a surprisingly voluminous rendition of Comtes d’Eguisheim, yet in its way also as minerally a one as you are likely to encounter. Expect it to be worth following for the better part of two decades. |

VM 93 (4/2024): The 2022 Moulin-à-Vent Champ de Cour comes from vines planted in 50cm of clay over granite. Rottiers says this produces a more Pinot-like Beaujolais. It underwent whole-bunch vinification with a longer maceration. It has a very cohesive nose with precise red fruit and yes, blind, you might assert that it comes from Gevrey. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins, very silky in texture and lightly spiced with a touch of pencil lead on the finish. Another great wine from Rottiers. Neal Martin. |

This has vivacious red cherry and cranberry scents on the nose, hints of cassis just in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with a fine line of acidity, fresh and saline with a brisk, graphite-tinged finish. This is an adorable Moulin-à-Vent that takes your breath away. Neal Martin.

JD 94 (1/2025): Bright jeweled ruby in color, the 2020 Brunello Di Montalcino is flush with pure aromas of candied flowers, cherry lozenge, pine needles, and blood orange. Medium-framed, it’s ripe and pure on the palate, with refreshing energy, a very balanced feel, wonderfully refreshing salinity, and well-defined tannins. I love this vintage for Caprilli, and although this is showing off today, it should age with ease over the coming 20 years. In a second tasting, I was even more impressed with this wine, which has a lot of clarity and balance. Bravo. (Drink between 2025-2045). Audrey Frick.
VM 94 (11/2024): The 2020 Brunello di Montalcino reveals the dark side of Sangiovese, with more black fruit than red. A mass of crushed stone minerality blows off to reveal spiced orange peels and incense. It's silken and round, with a polished core of ripe blackberries offset by a tinge of sour citrus toward the close. It leaves the cheeks puckered with tension as edge tannins resonate and hints of licorice fade slowly. (Drink between 2026-2038). Eric Guido. |

| WA 93 (4/2024): The Cavallotto 2021 Barbera d'Alba Superiore Vigna Cuculo has something a little exotic like toasted cumin seed or sweet cinnamon stick that pops from the bouquet. The wine's core of fruit shows dark cherries or crème de cassis, and these come through especially well on the palate. This wine is a tight little package that shows elegance, and it delivers on all fronts: concentration, intensity and balance. The fruit also shows good length. Fruit comes from 50-year-old vines in the Bricco Boschis cru, and 8,373 bottles were released. |

JD 94 (3/2023): Moving to the 2018 Brunello Di Montalcino Ugolforte, its rich ruby hue is followed by aromas of cherry candy, wild raspberry liqueur, rosemary, and violets. On the palate, it reveals medium to full body, ripe tannins, black cherry fruit, crunchy acidity, and a hint of sage. It offers a bit of warming spice without being heavy and displays the transparency that is typical of the vintage. Drink 2024-2040. Audrey Frick
WA 93 (3/2023): Showing medium-dark concentration, the 2018 Brunello di Montalcino Ugolforte is savory in character with black spice, saddle leather and some distant hints of cured meat. I always associate Ugolforte with a more contemporary winemaking style that showcases spice, ripe fruit and soft tannins. This vintage delivers all of those things over a plush and accessible mouthfeel. Some 50,000 bottles were made.
VM 92 (12/2022): The 2018 Brunello di Montalcino Ugolforte is understated in the glass, lifted and delicate, with white pepper, pretty rose and nuances of dried strawberry. This envelopes the palate with soft textures and soothingly ripe red fruits contrasted with savory spices and inner herbal tones. The 2018 lingers long, showing balsamic nuances and salted licorice, as gentle tannins frame but don’t slow its momentum. It will be interesting to follow this understated beauty through its maturity. Eric Guido. |

JD 91 (5/2025): The 2022 Langhe Nebbiolo comes from Basarin and pours a reflective medium red color. It initially benefits from some air on opening to let its more volatile notes blow off and then reveals very pretty aromatics of ripe raspberries, pine needles, mint, and crushed roses. The palate is refreshing and structured, with finely coiled tannins, ripe acidity, and a bit of youthful grip on the finish. For lovers of this estate, it will be well worth snapping up several bottles to enjoy while waiting on the 2021s. Drink 2025-2032. They didn’t produce any Barbaresco in 2022. Audrey Frick.
VM 91 (10/2023): The 2022 Langhe Nebbiolo is Barbaresco in all but name because of its slightly earlier release. Crushed flowers, spice, tobacco, cedar and bright Nebbiolo acids are nicely delineated. In 2022, the Langhe Nebbiolo has a bit more mid-palate richness than in most years, but that is not a bad thing for a wine meant to be enjoyed over the near and medium term. Antonio Galloni.
WA 91 (1/2025): Fruit for this wine comes exclusively from the Basarin cru. The Sottimano 2022 Langhe Nebbiolo shows pretty aromas of mint, blueberry and delicate violets. The wine does have a slightly herbal side, resulting in a botanical feel. Fermentation includes 50 days of skin contact, and the results are fresh, lightly tannic and medium in intensity. |

| JD 93 (7/2017): The 2013 Cuvee Moriah is 87% Grenache and 13% Syrah that’s all from the Dry Stack Vineyard in the Bennett Valley. It has a gorgeous (as well as complex) bouquet of ripe cherries, cranberry, dried flowers and incense. This carries to an ethereally textured, elegant Grenache that that has sweet fruit, medium-bodied richness and a great finish. It’s not going to make old bones, but it’s going to be impossible to resist over the coming 4-5 years. This may be my favorite vintage of this cuvee to date. |

WA 92 (8/2016): The 2013 Pinot Noir Solomon Hills offers lovely notes of spice, autumn leaves, red currants and framboise in a medium to full-bodied, silky, polished package. Fermented with 30% whole clusters and raised 18 months in 40% new French oak, it has terrific complexity, and its tight, lively feel on the palate should allow it to age gracefully over the coming decade as well.
VM 90 (9/2016): The 2013 Pinot Noir Solomon Hills Vineyard is dark, pliant and expressive. Sweet black cherries, plum, menthol, licorice and lavender blossom in the glass. I would prefer to drink this soft, mid-weight Pinot over the next handful of years. Antonio Galloni. |

VM 93 (9/2023): The 2022 Chardonnay (Santa Barbara County) is stellar. Powerful and textured, the 2022 is super-expressive from the very first taste. Even with very short élevage and blocked malolactic fermentation, the 2022 possesses tons of depth. Lemon confit, marzipan, white flowers and tangerine oil are all beautifully amplified. All of this fruit is from Mission Hills in Los Alamos. Greg Brewer did a fabulous job with the 2022. With a production of 17,000 cases and a price of just $25, the Diatom Chardonnay is both delicious and a tremendous value. Bravo. Antonio Galloni.
WA 93 (12/2023): The 2022 Chardonnay, vinified without malolactic conversion and matured in stainless steel, opens with inviting aromas of quince, white peaches, toasted meringue and citrus blossom streaked with hints of matchstick and saline. The medium-bodied palate balances ripe, floral fruit with focused acidity, and a touch of textural breadth lengthens the finish. It combines the verve of Chablis with the ripeness of California. It deserves 2-3 years in bottle to unwind.
JD 91 (8/2023): Made by Greg Brewer and a smoking value, the 2022 Diatom has vibrant citrus and tart pineapple-like notes as well as a medium-bodied, seamless, silky style on the palate. It's a joy to drink already yet has complexity, layers, and depth, and is a beautiful Chardonnay. The 2022 comes 85% from the Mission Hills Vineyard and 15% from Bar-M (Los Alamos), both in Santa Barbara County, and it was fermented and aged in stainless steel tanks, with malolactic fermentation blocked. |

WS 92 (10/2019): Creamy and refined, featuring lusciously spiced flavors of plum tart, dark cherry and black fig. Cedar and loamy notes show midpalate, with a long, rich finish that offers chocolate mousse accents. Drink now through 2021. 3,000 cases made, 1,000 cases imported.
VM 90 (7/2018): Dark ruby-red. Less roasted on the nose than the 2014 version, offering scents of cassis, ripe plum and red cherries macerated in alcohol. Very plush and ripe but dry, and a step up in concentration and density from the '14. Still more a wine of breadth than verticality but at least as dark in its fruit character as the '14 and firmer, longer and more vibrant on the finish. A bit less sweet on the end than the 2014 example, showing a positive hint of mintiness. Moureau expressed the opinion that peak drinkability for this bottling is typically about six or seven years after the vintage, "then it loses fruit and freshness even if shows more complexity."
