Cuvee Natalie Silver Belt Pinot Noir |
$115 |
1 |
VM 96 (3/2017): The 2014 Pinot Noir Silver Belt Cuvee Natalie has more density, power and richness than the Kistler Vineyard, with darker tonalities of fruit, to match its inner sweetness. The distinctive aromatics of Swan clone are especially pronounced today. Translucent and expressive, with striking shades of red/purplish fruits, the 2014 is magnificent today. Silky tannins and soft contours will make the 2014 nearly impossible to resist upon release. Antonio Galloni. WA 95 (2/2017): The Silver Belt Cuvee Natalie Pinot Noir has more Swan clone in it than the Kistler Vineyard wine. Medium ruby-purple colored, the 2014 Pinot Noir Cuvee Natalie Silver Belt has a lovely floral nose with notes of lavender and red roses over a core of raspberry leaves, wild strawberries and forest floor. Medium-bodied, it has a refreshing line of acid and wonderfully ripe, silky tannins supporting the intense, perfumed red berry flavors, finishing with an herbal lift. WS 93 (5/2017): Complex black cherry and blackberry flavors are shaded by spicy, cedary oak and supported by firm, gripping tannins that make for a powerful expression. Shows a measure of elegance and finesse. Drink now through 2023. 1,070 cases made. |

Laguna Ridge Vyd. Pinot Noir |
$89 |

VM 8 (1/2018): The 2015 Pinot Noir Laguna Ridge (formerly Kistler Vineyard) is just as riveting from bottle as it was from tank. Inky, deep and explosive, the 2015 hits the palate with a rush of blue/purplish fruit, creme de cassis, lavender, menthol, game, white flowers and incense. Vivid and spectacularly rich, this full-throttle Pinot has so much to offer. The tannins need time to soften, but all the elements are in the right place. A flourish of floral and savory notes add the closing layers of complexity. Antonio Galloni. |

WS 88 (9/2014): A dash of dusty-cedary oak runs through the core, framed by dried berry, herb, sage and tobacco notes, gaining length on the finish. Drink now through 2022. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. 1,932 cases made. |

Coopersmith Vyd. Pinot Noir |
$45 |
1 |
WA 92+ (4/2018): The 2015 Pinot Noir Coopersmith is medium to deep ruby-purple colored and scented of wild blueberries, black raspberries and forest floor with touches of rose hips, oolong tea and fungi. The palate is medium to full-bodied with taut, muscular fruit and a firm, grainy frame, finishing long and earthy. BH 90 (6/2018): Interestingly, this is almost a hypothetical blend of the first two wines as the nose combines both upper and lower register aromas that are interwoven with spice and lavender wisps. Notably rich and velvety medium-bodied flavors possess notes of chocolate and mocha on the sappy and palate coating finish. This muscular effort is admirably dense and powerful and about the only reproach is evident warmth. |

Bouquet Garni Syrah |
$89 |
1 |
VM 93 (8/2016): The 2012 Syrah Bouquet Garni, from a site in Bennett Valley, is deep, powerful and explosive, with huge fruit and terrific overall intensity. Black cherry, plum, spice, lavender and sage are front and center. Voluptuous, racy and ripe, the Bouquet Garni offers notable intensity from start to finish. Wilder, gamier notes develop with time in the glass. This is a super-classic Luc Morlet wine built on power and intensity. Antonio Galloni. WA 96 (12/2014): Luc Morlet further demonstrates his genius with his Syrah called Bouquet Garni from Bennett Valley, which is bottled without fining or filtration. There are only around five barrels (125 cases) of this 100% Syrah that tastes like it includes some Viognier in the blend (because of the floral and lavender notes). The 2012 Syrah Bouquet Garni offers up fabulous notes of black truffles, lavender, roasted herbs, graphite, blackberries and meaty charcuterie. Other than a handful of Syrahs from Sine Qua Non, this French-tasting Syrah is the closest thing I have tasted to Guigal’s famous Côte Rôtie La Landonne. Drink this sensational Syrah over the next 10-15 years. |

Cabernet Sauvignon |
$69 |

WA 88 (10/2013): The 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa displays a denser saturated ruby/purple color as well as a pure, spicy bouquet with lots of black currants, medium body and an abrupt, gritty finish. This excellent Cabernet should be drunk in its first 7-8 years of life. |

L’Esprit des Pavots Proprietary Blend Lightly Bin-Soiled Label |
$75 |
1 |
WA 90 (12/2015): The 2013 L'Esprit des Pavots, a blend of 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Cabernet Franc and the rest Merlot. Soft, round and juicy, with licorice, roasted herbs, underbrush, blackberry and cassis, this is a yummy, sexy and seductive style of wine to drink over the next 10-15 years. |

2014 |
L’Esprit des Pavots Proprietary Blend Lightly Bin-Soiled Label |
$69 |
1 |
WA 90 (12/2016): The second wine, culled from barrels not considered at the level required of Les Pavots, is the 2014 Proprietary Red L’Esprit des Pavots, which is a relatively large cuvee of 2,120 cases. A blend of 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot, 18% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot, this wine is silky, lush and approachable, with low acidity and notes of black olive tapenade intermixed with graphite, blackberry, cassis and smoke. It is full-bodied, plush and best drunk over the next 10-15 years. |
2010 |
Les Pavots Proprietary Blend |
$149 |
1 |
WA 94 (12/2013): Made from a similar blend with slightly less Cabernet Sauvignon and more Merlot, the 2010 L’Esprit des Pavots represents 1,580 cases. It is a beautiful wine to enjoy now and over the next 10-15 years. Loaded with black fruit, licorice, bouquet garni and forest floor characteristics, it is an opulent, round, delicious 2010. JS 93 (3/2015): This is round and soft with a generosity and richness. Full body with juicy fruit, chocolate, berries and hints of walnuts. Drink or hold. WS 91 (11/2013): Offers a ripe, generous mix of wild berry and dark berry, with dried herb, cedar, road tar and tobacco leaf elements imparting an herbal, Bordeaux-like presence. Gains focus and persistence on the finish. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Best from 2015 through 2024. 3,000 cases made. VM 90 (2/2014): Dark red cherries, plums, smoke and tobacco all flesh out in the 2010 L’Esprit des Pavots. Floral notes appear later, adding lift and perfume on the finish. When they were younger, the 2010 Esprit and Pavots were similar. Now, with a little additional bottle age, the wines are more differentiated. The 2010 Esprit is a pretty, voluptuous red from Peter Michael to drink now and over the next few years. In 2010, L' Esprit des Pavots is 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot. |

Quilceda Creek |
2010 |
Columbia Valley Proprietary Blend |
$75 |
2 |
WA 92 (6/2013): A superb entry level effort that has not only layers of fruit and texture, but solid back-end structure, the 2010 Red Wine is a declassified blend of mostly Cabernet Sauvignon, yet has 15% Merlot and a splash of Malbec, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc in there as well. Up-front, perfumed and intense, it offers up spice-laced red and black fruits, toast, cedar, vanilla and hints of chocolate to go with a full-bodied, mouth-filling and voluptuously textured palate. Lacking the polish and elegance that can be found in this estate’s upper tier efforts, it nevertheless has superb fruit, ripe tannin and serious length. Enjoy it while you wait for this estate’s other wines to mature. Drink now-2020. |

Stags' Leap Winery |
2012 |
Ne Cede Malis Petite Sirah |
$40 |
1 |
WA 95+ (3/2016): Stags’ Leap has always had a great reputation for its Petite Sirahs. A prodigious Petite Sirah, their 2012 Petite Sirah Estate Ne Cede Malis is a blend of 85% Petite Sirah and 15% Mixed Blacks aged 12 months in 25% new American oak. There are 900 cases of this massive, blockbuster, full-throttle wine from some of the oldest vines on the estate. (One parcel of Petite Sirah was planted in 1929.) Opaque purple, with notes of pen ink, graphite, blueberry and blackberry liqueur, an amazingly concentrated, full-bodied mouthfeel, and stunning purity and depth, this is a wine for 30-40 years of cellaring. It is a killer effort. |

Esprit de Beaucastel Proprietary Blend |
$59 |
2 |
WA 95+ (5/2018): Thanks to an early flowering and a cool season that saw harvest a month later than usual, the 2010 Esprit de Beaucastel spent six weeks longer on the vine than average. It's really beginning to unwind, revealing complex aromas of dried herbs, sweet soil, black olives, cassis and cherry. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, rich and velvety, with a lovely core of fruit that's picking up plenty of savory nuance. It is balanced by bright acids and concludes with a flavorful finish that still displays some youthful chew. VM 92 (11/2012): (45% mourvedre, 30% grenache, 21% syrah and 4% counoise): Bright ruby-red. Exotically perfumed bouquet of ripe red fruits, Asian spices, lavender and cola. Pliant, sweet and lithe, offering intense raspberry, bitter cherry and floral pastille flavors along with hints of star anise and blood orange. Finishes silky, sweet and long, with resonating floral notes and excellent focus. Josh Raynolds. |

Le Complice Proprietary Blend |

WA 93 (10/2020): The 2018 Le Complice is a blend of 60% Syrah, 25% Grenache and 15% Terret Noir. It has a medium ruby-purple color and very pretty scents of blackberries, blueberries, bergamot, forest floor and aniseed. The palate is medium to full-bodied, silky, perfumed and ultra juicy with a long, flavorful finish. |

Hayne Vyd. Petite Sirah Slightly Raised Cork |
$79 |
1 |
VM 93-96 (12/2016): The 2015 Petite Syrah Hayne Vineyard possesses a gorgeous structural spine to balance the intense, inky fruit. Chocolate, plum, spice and succulent red cherry notes abound in this creamy, super-expressive Petite. In 2015, the Hayne is ample, deep and beautifully rendered. Antonio Galloni. |

2016 |
Hayne Vyd. Petite Sirah |
$95 |
1 |
WA 96 (9/2018): The 2016 Petite Syrah Hayne Vineyard is the most perfumed and elegant of Turley's Petite Syrahs (they don't spell it "Sirah") this year, unfurling in the glass with a pure and fragrant bouquet of cassis, dark plums, rose petals and pencil lead. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, layered and multidimensional, with a deep core of vibrant, juicy fruit, satiny but abundant tannins and a long finish. It's an exceptional wine from a singular vineyard. |

2014 |
Library Vyd. Petite Sirah |
$65 |

WA 95+ (4/2016): Noticeably floral with blueberries and blackberries is the 2014 Petite Syrah Library Vineyard, from a site adjacent to the Hayne Vineyard on the back streets of St. Helena. Again, this has civilized tannins that are silky and well-integrated, followed by a wine with an enormous wealth of fruit, lavish concentration, and extravagant texture and richness. It is always hard to peg when these will hit full maturity, but this one has a good 5-10 years of development and should keep for three decades as well. |

2016 |
Old Vines Zinfandel |
$30 |
1 |
WA 91 (9/2018): One of Turley's emblematic bottlings, the 2016 Zinfandel Old Vines exhibits a lovely bouquet of raspberries, plums, cherries and licorice. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated, with rich structuring tannins, a generous core of fleshy fruit and a long, flavorful finish. Passalacqua notes that a lot of the single vineyards that Turley works with today began life as part of the Old Vines blend while the sources and farming improvements were made and that a few barrels of many of the top single vineyards usually find their way into the blend. VM 90 (3/2018): Turley's 2016 Zinfandel Old Vines screams with varietal character. Succulent dark cherry, leather, tobacco, sage, menthol and crushed flowers give the 2016 myriad shades of dimension. This plump, supple Zinfandel offers considerable near and medium-term appeal. Antonio Galloni. |

VM 94 (12/2016): The 2014 Zinfandel Ueberroth Vineyard, from one of the most historic sites in Paso Robles, is another fabulous wine from Turley. Blackberry, plum, lavender, game, leather and wild flowers add considerable aromatic intrigue to this deep, impeccable Zinfandel. The Ueberroth is particularly strong in 2014. There is a palpable sense of weight that is especially appealing. Antonio Galloni. |
