This collection features a wide array of powerful and collectable wines as well as rare late-harvest bottles. WA 91 (4/2013): The 2011 Chardonnay Carneros is classy, layered and exceptionally beautiful. Lemon, apricots, pears and white flowers all wrap around the palate, but what stands out most is the sheer silkiness and textural finesse of the wine. Moreover, tropical notes emerge with time, but in the end, this is a fairly restrained Chardonnay from Mark Aubert. Sweet floral notes meld into the soft, caressing finish. In 2011, Aubert lost a considerable amount of fruit in Hyde. The bulk of the wine was sold off, but Aubert bottled the best 40% and declassified it into the Carneros appellation wine. Tasting the 2011, I can only wonder what might have been had the vintage not been so capricious. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2018. |

WA 96-98 (12/2013): The 2012 Chardonnay Larry Hyde & Sons (1,000 cases) comes from a 4-acre vineyard that produces nearly 1,000 cases. The straw color reveals a greenish hue, and the wine bursts from the glass with notes of exotic fruits, wet stones, limes and white peaches. It has a kinship to a great Coche-Dury Corton-Charlemagne. Complex and full-bodied with stunning purity, richness and acidity, this killer Chardonnay should drink well for 6-10 years. VM 94 (2/2014): The 2012 Chardonnay Larry Hyde and Sons is wonderfully textured in the glass. Vivid and layered, the 2012 flows across the palate with hints of Chamomile, lemon curd, mint, wild flowers and a hint of honey. The 2012 was aged in 70% new French oak barrels, all of which it handles with grace. The finish is long and exceptionally polished. - WS 92 (7/2014): This unfolds slowly, with a beam of lemon-lime citrus, green apple and honeysuckle flavors, and should reward short-term cellaring, showing hints of vanilla and cream on the finish. The greenest of the Auberts. Drink now through 2020. 875 cases made. |

WA 95 (4/2013): Aubert’s 2011 Chardonnay Lauren Vineyard flows across the palate with hints of butter, marzipan, spices, nectarines and dried apricots. Rich, voluptuous and creamy, the 2011 is another of the more overt wines in this range. Still, there is more than enough underlying minerality to balance the fruit. The old Wente and Montrachet clones work well here, but the vines are only 12 years old, which suggests the best is still very much in the future. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2019. WS 92 (6/2013): Ultrarich and intense, exhibiting waves of smoke, fig, apricot and tangerine flavors, firming and narrowing on the finish. Drink now through 2018. 767 cases made. |

WA 96 (4/2013): The 2011 Chardonnay Ritchie Vineyard is utterly magnificent. I especially like the way the 2011 is at once unbelievably rich, but not at all heavy. Yellow stone fruit, light floral honey, nectarine and almonds inform the rich, oily finish. The 100% new barrels are imperceptible. All the elements are beautifully in place in this harmonious, voluptuous Chardonnay. This is a great, great showing from Mark Aubert. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2021. WS 93 (6/2013): Pure, rich smoke, fig, apricot and crème brûlee flavors are deep and persistent in this white, which is slow to open but gains depth, focus, persistence and length, ending with light toasted marshmallow. WA 95 (4/2013): The 2011 Chardonnay UV-SL Vineyard emerges from a site on the Sonoma Coast seven miles from the ocean, just above Occidental. Apricots, peaches, wild flowers, nectarine and smoke are some of the multiple nuances in the glass. The UV-SL is another of the richer, more textured wines in the lineup. At the same time, the 2011 is a wine of vivid nuance, transparency and crystalline purity. Here, too, the 100% new oak barrels are totally integrated. It is so rare to find so much detail in this creamy, big Chardonnay, but it’s all there. This is another utterly impeccable wine from Mark Aubert. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2018. WS 92 (6/2013): Makes points of subtlety and finesse, with touches of creamy, smoky oak woven into a fabric of fresh-cut apple and pear, gaining richness and depth and ending with a long finish. WA 93 (12/2013): The 2012 Chardonnay River Block is made from the Old Wente clone as well as Dijon clone 95. It offers up notes of buttered tangerine oil, lemon grass, white peach, an underlying stony character, and a fresh, full-bodied, rich mouthfeel displaying terrific texture and length. This superb Chardonnay should drink well for 6-8 years. VM 92 (5/2014): Pale yellow-gold. Mineral-laced citrus and orchard fruit aromas are complicated by a sexy floral nuance. Tightly wound orange and pear skin flavors deliver impressive depth and power, with no excess weight. The mineral quality dominates the finish, which features a subtle iodine flourish. WA 94 (12/2013): The 2012 Chardonnay South River reveals a terrific perfume of subtle smoke, buttered tropical fruits and a Chassagne-Montrachet-like nuttiness. Full-bodied and rich, this dazzling effort should drink well for 5-6 years. VM 91 (2/2014): Rochioli's 2012 Chardonnay South River presents a beautiful array of tangerine, mint, white flowers and slate, all of which seem to lift out of the glass effortlessly. WA 95 (2/2017): The 2014 Chardonnay Durell Vineyard has a relatively subdued/savory nose of baking bread and yeast extract over a core of grapefruit, beeswax and crushed stones. Full-bodied, there is a lot of power and layers on the palate with a wicked backbone of acid cutting through the creamy texture and loads of minerals on the finish. VM 93 (3/2017): The 2014 Chardonnay Durell Vineyard offers a compelling interplay of rich fruit, phenolics and brightness, which gives it lovely completeness. Apricot, baked apple, chamomile and a kiss of French oak add to the wine's creamy, inviting personality. All the elements fall into place effortlessly. Antonio Galloni. This is a real hedonist’s wine! VM 93 (3/2017): The 2014 Chardonnay Dutton Ranch is quite powerful, yet retains its distinctly mid-weight structure and personality. VM 96 (3/2017): The 2014 Chardonnay Hudson Vineyard opens with a characteristic reductive note that also adds an element of freshness and aromatic intrigue. Deep on the palate, yet also weightless, the Hudson has a lot going on. Slate, dried herbs, candied lemon and white pepper add to the wine's super-distinctive aromatic and flavor profile. The Hudson is one of the clear standouts in 2014. Antonio Galloni. WA 94 (2/2017): The 2014 Chardonnay Hudson Vineyard has a full-on expressive nose of candied ginger, brioche and honey-drizzled peaches with a waft of orange blossoms. Full-bodied, rich and already strutting its stuff, it has a refreshing line of acidity and wonderful length with some minerals coming through. Drink now through 2021. 1,060 cases made. VM 92 (1/2015): The 2012 Chardonnay Stone Flat Vineyard emerges from a parcel right next to Durell, but the flavors are quite a bit brighter. Lemon oil, white flowers, pears and white pepper are all laced together in a very pretty, understated Chardonnay. WA 92 (1/2015): Coming across like a Grand Cru from Chablis, the 2012 Chardonnay Stone Flat Vineyard displays loads of wet rocks, a touch of delicate honey, lemon blossom and assorted citrus oil notes. It is medium-bodied, fresh, lively and quite crisp and pure. Drink it over the next 4-5 years as well. |

VM 94 (4/2018): The 2015 Chardonnay Vine Hill Vineyard offers striking finesse to play off a tropically-leaning profile that is somewhat unusual for this wine. Scents of tangerine, pineapple, mint and dried flowers are nicely delineated. Medium in body but with superb depth, the 2015 has a lot to say. The 2015 finishes with substantial weight and gravitas that only add to its considerable appeal. Over the last year, the fruit expression has become more overt than it was at the outset. WA 95 (12/2014): The 2012 Chardonnay Ma Douce reminds me of a classic Bâtard-Montrachet produced by Michel Niellon in the mid-1980s. Lots of brioche, honeysuckle, caramelized citrus and buttery pear notes are found in this long, full-bodied, beautiful white. Ripe and full-bodied with terrific acidity as well as freshness, this cuvée comes from a vineyard planted at a 1,300 foot elevation, and was bottled with indigenous yeast fermentation and no fining or filtration. WA 96 (12/2014): The 2012 Chardonnay Ma Princesse, which comes from Goldridge soils in the Russian River, is a relatively large cuvée of 550 cases. It exhibits copious notes of orange marmalade, pineapple, white peach and melted caramel in its deep, rich, light gold-colored, full-bodied style. With great acidity, precision and complexity, it should drink well for 10+ years. |

WA 92 (4/2016): The 2014 Chardonnay Hyde Vineyard is another wine made from the Hyde/Wente clone of Chardonnay that is small-berried and sees about 45% new French oak. The wine shows crisp, elegant citrus oil notes, pear, honeysuckle and a touch of tangerine oil (or is it orange marmalade?). The wine reveals great acidity and loads of citrus fruit. It is a completely different expression of the Wente clone from the Hyde and Hudson vineyards – and all the better for it. Drink it over the next 4-5 years. |

WA 94 (10/2016): Two terrific whites that Peter Michael should get more recognition for are the Sauvignon Blanc L’Après-Midi and the equal-parts Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon called Coeur à Coeur. The 2015 Sauvignon Blanc L’Apres-Midi, which is 88% Sauvignon Blanc and 12% Semillon is certainly one of California’s most exciting Sauvignons, with a texture of Chardonnay and exotic mango, honeysuckle, ripe melon and wet-rock scented fragrance, medium to full body, and striking precision and vibrancy. This is a terrific wine, as it has been in almost every vintage they have produced. Drink: now-2020. |

Juicy citrus, white flowers, lemon, honey, and some underbrush, earthy notes all flow to a fresh, lively, yet textured Sauvignon that has beautiful balance and purity. Classic, elegant, and lengthy, it’s going to keep like a great white from the Graves region of Bordeaux. |

JD 89 (1/2020): The 2018 Chardonnay offers lots of buttered tropical fruits, brioche, and honeyed notes as well as a richer, rounded, nicely textured style on the palate. It has loads of sweet fruit yet stays clean and enjoyable. |

WA 95 (8/2009): The 2006 Mr. K. The Nobleman Chardonnay (200 grams of residual sugar per liter) reveals phenomenal fresh, lively acidity as well as wonderful honeyed peach, marmalade, tropical fruit, and creme brulee characteristics. It is a Trockenbeerenauslese-styled wine that is a fitting tribute to the effusive and much revered Alois Kracher. VM 94 (12/2009): (200 grams per liter residual sugar with 10.2 g/l (!) acidity) Bronze-gold color. Smoky pit fruit and orange marmalade aromas are complemented by spicecake and white pepper. Deep, sweet and creamy in texture, offering weighty pit fruit liqueur flavors and mounting spiciness. Clings to the palate with impressive sweetness but the overall impression is of spice and energy. |

WA 88 (10/2020): The 2018 Vin de Paille is made from Roussanne grapes sun-dried for three weeks and aged in about one-third new oak. The nose offers bruised apples, candied mangos and honeycomb with notes of pastry crust. The palate is full and rich with pastry-laced flavors and a long finish. This has about 126 grams per liter residual sugar. VM 94 (2/2020): Shimmering yellow-gold. Assertively perfumed nectarine, pear, orange marmalade, honeysuckle and candied ginger aromas pick up hints of fennel and dusty minerals with air. Deeply concentrated orchard and pit fruit flavors are accompanied by suggestions of chamomile, succulent herbs and candied citrus zest. Finishes extremely long, supple and broad, with resonating pear nectar and peach liqueur qualities and a late jolt of spiciness. Josh Raynolds. JD 92 (10/2019): Honeyed orange rind, caramelized peach, white flowers, and acacia flower notes all emerge from the 2018 Vine De Paille, another beautiful, remarkable dessert wine from this team. Medium to full-bodied, concentrated, and textured, with both good acidity and balancing sweetness, it's going to benefit from 4-6 years of bottle age and keep for two decades. While there’s plenty to like in the lineup, I was unquestionably disappointed in the 2017s from Tablas Creek. This was the poorest showing I’ve seen from this estate to date and compared to past vintages, the wines are simple and lack concentration. It gives me no pleasure to say it as it’s a great team and great people, but the wines should be better. |

VM 94 (2/2020): Opaque ruby. A complex, deeply perfumed bouquet evokes ripe red and blue fruits, baking spices, vanilla, toffee and candied flowers, and a smoky mineral quality gains power as the wine opens up. Very sweet, seamless and broad on the palate, offering deeply concentrated raspberry and blueberry liqueur, cherry pie and fruitcake flavors that show emphatic, spicy back-end lift. The spice and floral components drive an extremely long, sappy, emphatically sweet finish that shows no obvious tannins. Josh Raynolds. JD 89 (10/2019): Made all from dried Mourvèdre grapes (a true Vin de Paille from red grapes), the 2017 Vin De Paille Sacrerouge has a pretty, spice-filled bouquet that offers loads of ripe cherries, garrigue, chocolate, and earthy notes.
