Huge Turley Cellar
Few wines are as emblematic of modern California wine as Turley Wine Cellars. The Turley wines embody the full, richly fruited profile that California can so effortlessly produce, and they work primarily in the varietals that shine in California like nowhere else - Zinfandel and Petite Sirah. Started in 1993 by proprietor Larry Turley, Turley Wine Cellars wanted to focus on the abundant old vines of the aforementioned varietals, and combine them with terroir specificity. Turley Wine Cellars now makes 40+ wines from over 50 different vineyards from across California(!), including from Napa, Sonoma, Lodi and Paso Robles; all the vineyards are either certified organic or in the process of being certified and only native yeasts are used for fermentation.
Flickinger has a fantastic assortment of Turley on offer today, spanning their best know vineyards and a range of vintages for both cellaring and drinking. The wines are always loaded with character and enjoy a wide drinking window but what is often overlooked about these iconic wines is their ability to age - both varietals are capable of graceful evolution and with 10-20 years of age they can take on a refinement and subtlety that is flat out gorgeous. It should also be said the Turley wines represent great value, so don't delay and pick up some of these California beauties today!

VM 90 (5/2010): (16.1% alcohol) Full, deep red. Musky dark cherry on the nose. Sweet and thick on the palate, with jammy cherry/berry flavors that come off as a bit crude following the perfumed Ueberroth bottling. This impressively plush zinfandel could use a bit more clarity and definition. Stephen Tanzer. |

WA 89 (4/2015): The 2013 Zinfandel Dusi Vineyard comes from a dry-farmed site planted in 1945 in the alluvial, rocky soils on the west side of Paso Robles. This 2013 is less complex than the Ueberroth, nor is it as multi-dimensional and concentrated, but it offers a gutsy, lusty mouthful of wine. It comes across as more straightforward than its nearby neighbors. Tipping the scales at 15.7% alcohol, the wine has good acidity, no heat, and a heady finish. Drink it over the next 5-6 years. |

VM 92 (12/2014): The 2012 Petite Syrah Turley Estate is quite soft and accessible in this vintage. Dark red cherry, plum, spices, new leather and menthol all open up in the glass. Today, the Estate is soft, supple and expressive, with good balance but less of the thrill factor of the very best versions. WS 92 (7/2014): This brims with violet, white pepper and forest floor aromatics, complementing the vivid blueberry, blackberry and huckleberry flavors at the core. Notes of bacon fat and black licorice appear on the finish, with velvety tannins. Drink now through 2025. 275 cases made. |

VM 93 (12/2012): The 2010 Zinfandel Turley Estate stands out for its exceptional inner perfume and sweetness. Hints of tar, licorice, menthol and black cherries all flesh out in this decidedly racy, exuberant Zinfandel. All the elements are superbly balanced from start to finish. WS 88 (7/2012): Berry pie and spice aromas lead to a core of dense cherry, anise and cedar flavors, covered with a rich texture. Flavors balance the bright acidity with firm tannins. Still young. Needs time. Best from 2014 through 2019. 200 cases made. |
