Monday's offer of the dynamic 2012 & 2013 California Cabernets was just the tip of the iceberg of our impressive inventory, so today we wanted to roll out another great duo of California vintages - the 2014 & 2015s. This pair is equally impressive - the 2014 is a bit of a sleeper as it followed the much lauded 2013 - they are equally rich but with more supple tannins that will make for earlier drinking than the 2013s (which is to say now). The '15s resemble 2012 in that it is more variable, but the 'tête de cuvées' (where only the best fruit is used) are sumptuous, deeply colored and full of character. 	WA 93 (12/2017): A blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot, the very deep purple-black colored 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Brio has a lovely crème de cassis, warm plums and baked cherries-scented nose with hints of spice box and underbrush. Full-bodied, rich, voluptuous, open knit and plush, it finishes long and spicy. 794 cases were made.   VM 91 (3/2018): Brand's 2015 Brio is a dark, plush wine. Dense, rich and super-sized, even by Napa Valley standards, the Brio delivers serious intensity from start to finish. The black cherry, mocha, chocolate, espresso, plum and spice flavors are all amped up to the maximum. Although there is not much in the way of subtlety, Brio will certainly please readers who enjoy lush wines. Antonio Galloni.

	VM 95 (3/2018): Buccella's 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon is a total knock-out. In fact, the 2014 is one of the best – possibly the best – wine I have ever tasted from Buccella. Deep, ripe and intense, with striking persistence, the 2014 is delineated, precise and complete. There is plenty of the textural richness that is such a Buccella signature, but the 2014 has an extra degree of energy that balances things out. Hints of bittersweet chocolate, lavender, red cherry jam and exotic spice infuse the vibrant, sculpted finish. Antonio Galloni.

	VM 95 (12/2018): Buccella's 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon is an outrageously beautiful wine. It is also going to need a least a few years to shed some of its considerable baby fat. Inky, flamboyant and super-concentrated, the 2015 almost tastes like a barrel sample, so primary is its fruit! Silky tannins and plush textures only add to the wine's considerable appeal. I am very intrigued to see how the 2015 ages, although I doubt most readers will have the patience to find out. This sumptuous, racy Cabernet has so much to offer. Antonio Galloni.

	JD 96+ (12/2017): Also bottled under screwcap, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve checks in as a blend of 94% Cabernet Sauvignon and 6% Petit Verdot that spent 20 months in new French oak. It offers a big, sweet nose of crème de cassis, blueberries, lavender, bay leaf and hints of earth. Deep, layered and concentrated, with sensational purity of fruit, it's a perfectly balanced 2015 that has everything you could want from this vintage. Like the Howell Mountain estate, it's tannic and in need of 4-5 years of cellaring.

	WA 91 (10/2017): A blend of 77% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Cabernet Franc and 4% Petit Verdot, the 2015 Elevage reveals a deep garnet-purple color with an earthy/spicy nose along with dried herbs and notions of stewed plums and forest floor. Medium to full-bodied, with chewy tannins and soft-spoken fruit, it finishes earthy.

	WA 90 (10/2017): A blend of 81% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot, the deep purple-black colored 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate offers notes of blackberries, black cherries, cedar and earth with a waft of cloves and lavender. The medium-bodied palate is firm, hard, chewy and a bit on the delicate side but shows good expression.

Never the biggest wine made by Cliff Lede, this is an elegant, classic Stags Leap example with finesse allied to beautifully pure power and balance. Deep and rich and possibly, at this stage, less expressive than some of its siblings, it is simply loaded and poised for a brilliant future. Consumers should give this 4-5 years of bottle age and drink it over the following 25-30 years.

	JS 98 (1/2017): The aromas of iodine, oyster shells and mushrooms turn to blackberries. Full body, polished tannins and a plush, velvety texture. Gorgeous length and tension. Aftertaste turns to leaves, forest floor and blackberries. Salty and savory. Wow.   VM 97 (12/2016): The 2014 Cariad is wonderfully expressive, open-knit and gracious. Sweet floral and spice notes give the 2014 much of its aromatics, while fruit is bright, vibrant and intense. I imagine the 2014 will drink well pretty much upon release. Today, the 2014 is showy, plush and inviting, but there is also plenty of depth to back it all up. Although I wouldn't dream of opening any of the 2014s early, but if I had to choose one wine to open before the others, this would be it. Cariad is a blend of fruit from several David Abreu ranches, with Madrona Ranch as the central component. Antonio Galloni.   WS 96 (11/2017): A big, rich, deep and caressing style, with wonderful textural nuances that smooth out the chewy dark berry, graphite, gravel and black licorice flavors. Most impressive on the finish, which sails along, gaining depth and persistence. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Drink now through 2038. 810 cases made.   WA 96 (10/2016): The 2014 Proprietary Red Cariad, which is dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon but also contains important percentages of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, is made from purchased fruit from David Abreu’s vineyard holdings on Howell Mountain and in St. Helena. This wine offers loads of unsmoked cigar tobacco, melted licorice, charcoal embers, blackberry and mulberry fruit, a full-bodied mouthfeel, stunning intensity, impressive equilibrium, and well-integrated acidity and tannin. It is another beauty, obviously coming from first-growth terroirs. This should drink beautifully for 20-25 years.
	2014	IX Estate Proprietary Blend	$365	5
	WA 98+ (10/2016): From their steep hillside vineyards on Pritchard Hill, the 2014 Proprietary Red IX Estate is an old-fashioned Médoc blend dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, but with some Cabernet Franc (rarely seen in the Médoc these years) as well as Merlot and Petit Verdot. Striking aromatics of violets, forest floor, loamy soil nuances, blueberry, black raspberry and blackberry soar from the glass of this spectacular 2014. The acidity seems reasonable but on the lower side, the texture is magnificent, and the overall purity and equilibrium flawless. This is a wine pushing, even demanding, a three-digit score once again, but I’m holding back – at least for now. This magnificent effort from Colgin should drink beautifully for 25-30 years.   JS 98 (1/2017): Gorgeous aromas of lean pencil, blackcurrants and raspberries. So perfumed and glorious. Full-bodied, chewy and intense with great length and intensity. Silky and muscular yet agile and energetic. Needs three to four years to resolve some of the tannins. Better in 2020.   VM 97 (12/2016): A huge, dark wine, the 2014 IX Estate exudes full-throttle intensity and richness, with big mountain tannins that give the wine its overall shape and feel. Huge swaths of mineral-drenched fruit make a strong first impression as this dark, brooding wine gradually shows its personality. Graphite, sage and grilled herbs envelop a core of intense fruit. A wine of volume and breadth, the 2014 IX Estate is going to take at least a few years to come into its own. Antonio Galloni.   WS 93 (11/2017): Aromas of loamy, dusty earth fold in nicely with the rich chocolaty core of dark berry. The tannins muster strength without overwhelming, adding the right touch of texture and traction. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Best from 2020 through 2034. 1,450 cases made.
	2015	IX Estate Proprietary Blend	$519	3
	JD 100 (12/2017): Another perfect wine from this estate is the 2015 IX Estate which is 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Cabernet Franc, 15% Merlot and the rest Petit Verdot. This inky purple-colored beauty has everything: incredible aromatics, huge richness, insane purity, and a singular character that needs to be tasted to be believed. Crème de cassis, blueberries, violets, flowers, and lead pencil shaving-like notes all soar from the glass and it hits the palate with a youthful, full-bodied, beautifully concentrated style that builds incrementally, has fine tannin, and integrated acidity. It needs 4-5 years of bottle age but will keep for 3-4 decades.   WA 100 (10/2017): Composed of 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Cabernet Franc, 15% Merlot and 4% Petit Verdot, the 2015 IX Proprietary Red Estate sports a deep garnet-purple color and nose of smoked meat, blackberries and black currants with suggestions of baking spices, dark chocolate, fertile earth, dried Provence herbs, cardamom and lavender plus a touch of cigar box. Full-bodied, rich, firm and restrained, it has a lovely earthy, soft-spoken style at this youthful stage, promising great things to come over the forthcoming 25-30 years.   VM 98 (3/2018): The 2015 Syrah is a total knock-out. Super-ripe red cherry, plum, rose petal and mint are some of the notes that race out of the glass, but here, too, it is the wine's stunning textural richness that stands out most. Full-throttle and intense in every dimension, the 2015 captivates all the senses with its magnificent, towering beauty. I would prefer to cellar the 2015 for at least a few years, but even today, in its primary stage, the 2015 is phenomenal. Antonio Galloni.

	VM 97 (3/2018): A stunning wine, the 2014 Continuum exudes balance and class. Super-ripe red cherry, kirsch, mocha, menthol and rose petal infuse this beautifully layered, fragrant wine. The 2014 is layered and nuanced to the core, all while maintaining sublime finesse. At the outset, the 2014 is gracious and light on it its feet, but time and air bring out the wine's fruit density. Healthy dollops of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot complement the Cabernet Sauvignon nicely. Two thousand-fourteen is also the first vintage that incorporates co-fermented lots. Antonio Galloni.

	VM 92 (3/2018): The 2014 Novicium is a very pretty wine. Cabernet Franc aromatics lift out of the glass effortlessly. Bright red-toned fruit and silky tannins give the 2014 considerable allure and raciness. This mid-weight, classy Pritchard Hill red is a superb second wine from Continuum. Antonio Galloni.
Dana Estates	2014	Helms Vyd. Cabernet Sauvignon	$425	2
	JS 98 (1/2017): Incredible aromas of violets and other flowers, not to mention blackcurrants and incense. Medium to full body and firm and polished tannins. Seductive. Goes on for minutes. Extremely long. Shows wonderful potential. Try it in 2022.   VM 96 (3/2018): The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Helms Vineyard is bright, focused and wonderfully nuanced in the glass. Medium in body, with silky tannins, the 2014 will drink well with minimal cellaring. It is fascinating to see how well the 2014 has come together over the last year. The flavors are vibrant – as they always have been – but the mid-palate has filled out very nicely. Succulent red cherry, plum, rose petal and spice notes lead into the nuanced, super-expressive finish. Antonio Galloni.   WA 95+ (10/2016): The single-vineyards from their 58 acres of vines, includes the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Helms Vineyard, which is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from Rutherford. Production is only about 300 cases. It is a slightly more complex wine than the Onda, but not more concentrated, as it has the same opulence and voluptuous texture, an endearing overall personality with abundant juicy blackcurrants and licorice and loamy soil undertones in a full-bodied, silky style. This wine spent 20 months in 90% new French oak prior to being bottled unfiltered.
	2014	Hershey Vyd. Cabernet Sauvignon	$399	2
	JS 99 (1/2017): Entrancing aromas of orange peel, sweet tobacco, mushrooms, clay, espresso chocolate and currants follow through to a medium to full body that builds on the finish with wonderful blackberry, wet-earth and fresh mushroom character. Lasts for minutes. Exuberant and decadent at the same time. More tamed than in the past. Challenging. Very unique. Better in 2022. Exciting to taste. Best Hershey ever?   VM 97 (3/2018): Dana's 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Hershey Vineyard is just as impressive as it has always been. The intense minerality and energy of Howell Mountain come through loud and clear in the wine's tension and overall drive. Crushed rocks, inky blue/purplish fruit, spice, lavender and menthol are all fused together. Vibrant, saline notes extend the finish nicely in this super-expressive, but young, wine. A dark, mysterious Cabernet, the 2014 has so much to say. Readers lucky enough to own it can look forward to 15-20 years of very fine drinking. Antonio Galloni.   WA 95+ (10/2016): The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Hershey Vineyard comes from a Howell Mountain vineyard at an 1,800-foot elevation. The classic Howell Mountain Cabernet characteristics of rich mulberry and blackberry fruit allied to graphite and earth are all present in this 100% Cabernet Sauvignon that spent 26 months in French oak of which 93% was new. Low-acid, plump, fleshy and sexy, this is a gorgeous wine, but relatively limited with only 280 cases produced. Drink it over the next 15-20 years.
Diamond Creek	2015	Red Rock Terrace Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5 L)	$375	2
	VM 94 (12/2018): Diamond Creek's 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Red Rock Terrace is dark, plush and inviting, almost shockingly so for a young Diamond Creek Cabernet. In 2015, the Red Rock leans towards the darker end of the spectrum, but it is the wine's juiciness and overall approachability that leave the strongest impression. Black cherry, plum, chocolate, leather, new oak and spice all build in this showy, voluptuous Cabernet from Diamond Creek. Antonio Galloni.
DuMol	2014	Cabernet Sauvignon	$109	4
	VM 95 (3/2017): The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley) is a blend of fruit from sites in Coombsville and Spring Mountain. A wine of sublime aromatic intensity and sensuality, the 2014 is absolutely brilliant. Bright red cherry, plum, tobacco, white pepper and a host of savory notes give the 2013 its super-classic profile and structural feel. If you can find it, don't miss it! Antonio Galloni.

	VM 96 (3/2017): The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Montecillo Vineyard, from one of the most pedigreed sites in northern California, is a total knockout. A classically built, old-school leaning wine, the Montecillo possesses dazzling aromatic presence, beams of mountain tannin and exceptional overall balance. Inky blue/purplish fruit, licorice, menthol, lavender, iron, smoke, graphite and a host of mineral-inflected notes build into the huge finish. Antonio Galloni.
Eisele Vineyard	2015	Cabernet Sauvignon	$495	6
	WA 100 (10/2017): Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon charges from the gate with exuberant red and black cherries notes, black currants and mulberries with a beautiful roses and lavender perfume, plus hints of sandalwood and cinnamon stick. Full-bodied, concentrated and downright explosive in the mouth, it is still wearing loads of gorgeous puppy-fat fruit flavors, offering suggestions of the complex, multilayered blockbuster that it will emerge into. The structure deserves its own mention: wonderful, seamless freshness and oh-so-fine, pixelated tannins, with an extraordinary persistence of fruit and mineral nuances. Wow.
Futo	2014	Proprietary Blend	$375	3
	JS 98 (5/2017): The beauty and sincerity of this wine is so mesmerizing. Floral, blueberry and blackberry flavors as well as violets. Medium-to full-bodied, soft and silky. Refined and beautiful. A balanced and ethereal wine. Sneaks up on you. Hard not to drink now.   WA 97 (10/2016): The 2014 Oakville Proprietary Red is 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Cabernet Franc and 7% Petit Verdot. This is a fabulous effort as well, more sexy and up-front than the 2013 at the moment, with gorgeous blueberry and blackberry fruit intermixed with licorice, graphite and subtle background wood smoke. Opulent and voluptuous, with terrific ripeness, density and a layered mouthfeel, this is a killer wine to drink over the next 25-30 years.   VM 95-97 (10/2015): The 2014 Futo is the most impressive of the 2014s here. Deep, powerful and exquisitely layered throughout, the 2014 possesses captivating balance and intensity from start to finish. Mocha, plums, black cherries and new leather meld together with that classic sense of Oakville creaminess and texture that is so typical of these hillside vineyards. The 2014 is shaping up to be a real jewel of a wine. As always, the Futo includes a healthy amount of Cabernet Franc, which is just magical here. Antonio Galloni.
Harlan Estate	2015	Proprietary Blend	$1,199	3
	JD 100 (1/2019): The 2015 Harlan Estate is a beast of a wine that shows the sexy, opulent style of the vintage married to the classic structure and depth of this estate. A downright smorgasbord of blackcurrants, blackberries, crushed rocks, graphite, smoky camphor, cured meats, and dried tobacco aromas all emerge from the glass, and it shows the deep, concentrated style of the vintage yet still has awesome complexity and nuances. Deep, powerful, and structured, yet opulent and incredibly sexy on the palate, it reminds me of the 2002. A brilliant wine from this estate, it's already approachable given its wealth of fruit yet has the tannic backbone and density to keep for 3-4 decades or more.   WA 100 (10/2018): Bottled in early 2018, the deep garnet-purple colored 2015 Harlan Estate is a little closed, slowly unfurling to reveal black cherries, crème de cassis and plum pudding with nuances of potpourri, baking spices and tilled soil plus wafts of garrigue and wild sage. The palate is full-bodied and concentrated with exquisitely ripe, fine-grained tannins and fantastic poise and depth with a long, decadently fruited finish.   WS 97 (10/2019): A huge red, with powerfully rendered dark fig, macerated black currant and steeped boysenberry fruit framed by a bittersweet chocolate note. With time in the glass, the fruit unwinds slowly, allowing anise and loam accents to fill in on the fleshy finish. There's some serious heft here through the back end too, with a long echo of smoldering tobacco and a great tug of dark earth. Best from 2022 through 2040. 1,839 cases made.   VM 97 (12/2018): The 2015 Harlan Estate has developed into an arrestingly beautiful wine. Racy and sumptuous, the 2015 is already quite showy, with tons of dark cherry, plum, mocha, espresso, licorice, spice and tobacco character. Today, the 2015 comes across as a bit brooding and hard to read, although some of the rougher edges in the tannins I saw last year have softened. Even so, I would prefer to cellar 2015 for at least a few years. There is so much to look forward to. Antonio Galloni.   JS 99 (12/2018): Incredible aromas of fresh flowers, such as roses and violets, and blackcurrants. Full body and defined levels of fruit and tannins too. Love the brightness and texture. An excellent finish. Production was down by a third because of bad berry set. Try in 2021.
Hourglass	2014	Blueline Vyd. Cabernet Sauvignon	$114	21
	VM 93 (12/2016): The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Blueline is plump, juicy and forward, all qualities that make it an excellent choice for drinking now and over the next handful of years. Dark cherry, plum, smoke, licorice and tobacco are all pushed forward. This is a soft, fruit-driven style for the year, but there is enough backbone to support at least a handful of years in the cellar. Dollops of Malbec and Petit Verdot round out the blend. 	JD 94 (12/2017): The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Blueline Estate is more elegant, with a fresh, focused style to go with lots of blue fruits, graphite, cedar, and a hint of tobacco leaf. With a seamless, pure, nicely balanced, full-bodied style, it's already drinking nicely yet is going to evolve gracefully as well.   WA 94 (10/2017): Containing splashes of Petit Verdot and Malbec, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Blueline Estate displays a medium to deep garnet-purple color and nose of red and black currants, black plums and tapenade with touches of cigar box and dried Mediterranean herbs. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is laden with exotic spices and earthy layers, framed by firm, grainy tannins and finishing with great length.   WS 93 (10/2018): Notable for the richness, depth, density and mocha-scented oak notes, with the oak giving the texture a smooth landing strip. The flavors are fresh and lively. Best from 2020 through 2032. 900 cases made.   VM 92 (3/2018): The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon is another pretty wine from the Blueline Estate. Dark cherry, plum mocha spice and licorice are nicely amped up in this pliant, supple Cabernet. In this vintage, the wines are not as differentiated as they can be. Perhaps for that reason, the Blueline, while quite good, is not especially exciting.
Joseph Phelps	2014	Insignia Proprietary Blend	$189	7
	WA 97+ (10/2017): Composed of 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Petit Verdot, 2% Malbec and 2% Cabernet Franc coming from six vineyards and reared for 24 months in 100% new French oak, the 2014 Insignia Proprietary Red Wine has a deep garnet-purple color and nose of crushed blackberries and fresh blackcurrants with touches of cigar box, sandalwood, dried lavender, beef drippings and mocha plus a waft of wild thyme. Medium to full-bodied and incredibly elegant and fine in the mouth, the lively fruit is well structured by grainy tannins and seamless acid, finishing long and earthy. 14,500 cases were made.   JS 97 (5/2017): The blackberry, dark-chocolate and walnut aromas are persuasive. Full body, a dense and fruity center palate and beautiful depth and intensity. The tannin texture is exceptional. Great wine. Drink in 2020 and onwards.   VM 97 (3/2018): The 2014 Insignia has turned out beautifully. Finely sculpted, nuanced and classic in structure, the 2014 is built on a core of energy and brightness. There is a level of purity and delineation in the flavors that is remarkable. Bright red cherry, lavender, rose petal and graphite add to the wine's sculpted personality. The 2014 is not an obvious or especially opulent Insignia, but rather a wine that makes its case with its impeccable balance. A closing flourish of bright, floral notes adds the final shades of nuance. This beauty comes from six estate vineyards and offers a gorgeous bouquet of black raspberries, cassis, Asian spice and white chocolate. With full-bodied richness, a beautiful, opulent, yet balanced texture, sweet tannin, and a great finish, it's a gorgeous 2014 that's already hard to resist, yet will cruise for two to three decades in the cellar.

	JS 99 (5/2017): Extremely floral and complex on the nose with cedar, blackberries, blueberries, tobacco, stones, mushrooms... I'm simply running out of words here! Full to medium body and a tight and compact center palate. This is complete and dense. Extremely long and energetic. Drink in five years but a joy to taste. One of the best ever.   VM 98 (12/2016): A powerful, tightly-wound wine, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Grand Vin is likely to require the better part of the next decade to come into its own. The most backward and brooding of these wines, the Grand Vin is also quite primary and closed in on itself. Still, the energy, drive and focus of the best vintages is very much in evidence. Today, the 2014 is dense, seamless and utterly impeccable, with no hard edges, beautifully integrated oak (100% new) and exceptional balance. Antonio Galloni.   WA 96 (10/2016): Always an exceptional cuvée, there are 900 cases of the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Grand Vin, which is 95% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Merlot. In 2015 there were 700 cases. This wine is even softer than the 2015, perhaps slightly less concentrated, but still at the top of the qualitative hierarchy in Napa Valley, with its terrific purity, nose of licorice, camphor, forest floor, blackcurrant and cedar wood. It is gorgeously fruited, full-bodied, but super-well-balanced. This is a beauty that can be drunk early, or cellared for another 25-30 years.

	JS 98 (5/2017): Love this merlot. Violets, roses, incense, and currants come to the fore on the nose. Full body and ultra-fine tannins that are so polished and integrated they become seamless and incredibly beautiful. Long and flavorful finish. Drink or hold. Long life ahead but who can wait?   VM 96 (12/2016): The 2014 Roberta's Reserve comes across as quite soft and sensual in this vintage, with less of the drive that is such a signature of the other wines here. This is the only 2014 at Kapcsándy that has not grown meaningfully since I last tasted it. Then again, Merlot is a quirky grape, as it often goes through unpredictable periods of being closed, especially in the early going. Today, my impression is that the 2014 will drink well with minimal cellaring, but it has less structure than some of the surrounding vintages as well as the other 2014s. This is an especially laid back, almost translucent wine from Kapcsándy. It will be interesting to see what the future brings. A dollop (3%) of Cabernet Franc rounds out the blend. Antonio Galloni.   WA 94-96 (10/2015): The 2014 Roberta’s Reserve State Lane Vineyard is a blend of 97% Merlot and 3% Cabernet Franc. 650 cases were produced, which is 27% of their total production. This was actually showing more fruit, density and personality than the more closed and reserved 2013. I’m not sure it has the concentration and overall upside potential of the 2013, but it’s beautifully rich, with loads of coffee bean, black chocolate, black cherry and mocha notes, a full-bodied mouthfeel, terrific purity and density. It should drink well for 15-20 years.

	WA 100 (10/2016): The flagship, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Materium, represents 560 cases and achieved 14.8% alcohol after aging in 90% new Taransaud and Darnajou casks. Remarkably, the wine matches the perfect 2013, with extraordinary fragrance of blueberry, blackberry, forest floor, truffle, spring flowers and background barbecue smoke followed by a thick, unctuously textured, juicy, but incredibly well-balanced, intense wine. This is built like a skyscraper with enormous quantities of blueberry, blackberry and cassis fruit, well-integrated acidity and sweet, gentle tannins. This is an extraordinary effort from Maybach that can be drunk now or cellared for up to 30 or more years.

Exquisite tension and finesse with an almost Burgundian texture, yet it’s Napa in its soul with ripe fruit, stones, spices and Chinese tea leaf flavors. Savory and delicious. Drinkable but better in 2020.   WA 96 (10/2017): Blended of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Cabernet Franc, 6% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot and 2% Malbec, the Opus One 2014 Proprietary Red Wine sports an inky purple color and nose of crushed black and red currants, black cherries and mulberries with touches of underbrush, sautéed herbs and pencil shavings plus a waft of spice box. Medium-bodied, finely crafted and with an energetic line lifting the red and black fruits, it has a bold frame of grainy tannins and a very long, earth and spice-layered finish.   VM 95+ (3/2018): The 2014 Opus One is super-classy, elegant and polished, with mid-weight structure and tons of pure class. This is one of the more restrained recent vintages of Opus One and yet all the elements are impeccably balanced. The flavors are bright, precise and beautifully delineated. Even so, the 2014 is not an easy or immediate Opus One. I wouldn't touch a bottle for at least a few years. A blend of 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot, 18% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot, this wine is silky, lush and approachable, with low acidity and notes of black olive tapenade intermixed with graphite, blackberry, cassis and smoke. It is full-bodied, plush and best drunk over the next 10-15 years.

Drink or hold   WA 95 (10/2016): The 2014 Proprietary Red Les Pavots (3,570 cases) is a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Cabernet Franc, 13% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot aged in mostly Taransaud barrels with a small helping of Darnajou thrown in. This wine is fabulous in the vintage, although certainly less profoundly concentrated and extracted, as well as structured, compared to the 2013, which was off-the-charts fabulous. This is a brilliant wine, charming, with front-end loaded plum, blackcurrant and black raspberry fruit interwoven with graphite, tar and truffle notes. The wine has sumptuous texture, sweet, velvety tannin, and a long, full-bodied finish. It should drink well for at least two decades.   WS 93 (11/2017): Well-centered on rich, dark berry fruit that is firm and direct, with subtle flavors filling in the gaps and ending with tannins that give the flavors traction and structure. 	JD 92 (7/2017): The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Kenefick Ranch is a sweetly fruited, voluptuous - even decadent - Cabernet that offers sensational purity in its crème de cassis, leafy herbs, earth and graphite/lead pencil aromas and flavors. Medium to full-bodied, nicely concentrated and playing in the more mid-weight, frontend-loaded style of the vintage, it’s already drinking beautifully (and I don’t see a need to delay gratification), yet will evolve for a decade or more.

	JD 98+ (12/2017): Beautiful notes of blueberries, violets, spring flowers, and scorched earth emerge from the 2015 Cabernet Franc Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard and it’s one of the more elegant, layered, seamless wines in the lineup. Full-bodied, ultra-fine, with integrated acidity, and a skyscraper-like structure, it needs 4-5 years of bottle age and will keep for two decades. It’s a regal, classy, beautiful expression of Cabernet Franc.   WA 98+ (10/2017): The first vintage of this new wine from Realm, the 2015 Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard Cabernet Franc (a blend of 75% Cabernet Franc and 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, co-fermented) reveals a very deep garnet-purple color and a beautiful nose of black raspberries, red currants, kirsch and wild blueberries with pencil shavings, bouquet garni and forest floor nuances. Full-bodied and richly fruited in the mouth, it has a firm frame of fine-grained tannins and plenty of freshness to support the generous red and blue fruits, finishing long and earthy. This wine is only available in magnums.   JS 97 (5/2018): This really is cabernet franc with a dense center palate, wonderful fruit and ripe and polished tannins. Full-bodied, and the smooth, tight tannins are compressed into a seamless texture. Rose-leaf character at the end. Fantastic. Drink in 2021.

	JD 99 (12/2017): The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is more exuberant and sexy, with awesome notes of blueberries, blackberries, incense, violets and unsmoked tobacco. This huge, unctuous, beauty has killer purity of fruit, gorgeous mid-palate depth, sweet, sweet tannin and the succulent, sexy style of the vintage front and center. Gaining depth and richness with time in the glass, this incredible Cabernet Sauvignon will be better with 3-4 years of bottle age and keep for two decades.   WA 98+ (12/2017): Blended of 94% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Cabernet Franc, 2% Petit Verdot and 1% Malbec, the 2015 Oakville Estate Proprietary Red Wine has a very deep purple-black color and is scented of freshly crushed black currants, blackberries and black cherries with touches of cedar chest, pencil lead, menthol, Chinese five spice and violets, plus a waft of sandalwood. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is very finely crafted with amazing freshness and vivacity, framed by firm, ripe, fine-grained tannins and finishing with lingering exotic spice notes. 758 cases were made.   WS 95 (3/2020): Deep and winey, with loam-infused blackberry, black currant and plum fruit set against a backdrop of menthol, savory and smoldering tobacco notes. Dark in profile, showing cut and drive on the enveloping finish. Will needs some time to unwind fully. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot. Best from 2023 through 2035. 761 cases made.   VM 94 (3/2018): The 2015 Oakville Estate Red is terrific. Rich, sumptuous and racy to the core, the Estate Red offers up a super-appealing melange of red cherry fruit, espresso, mint, spice and new leather. This is one of more medium-bodied wines of the vintage. Soft contours and silky tannins add to the wine's considerable appeal. The 2015 has come together very nicely over the last year. Today, the new oak (95%) is a bit evident, but that should not be an issue over time. Antonio Galloni.

	JD 98 (12/2017): The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Samantha's Estate is 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Cabernet Franc, 4% Malbec and 3% Petit Verdot that spent 21 months in 97% new French oak. This beauty just jumps from the glass with its crème de cassis, liquid violet, lead pencil, chocolate and graphite. Rich, concentrated, gorgeously balanced, opulent, and heavenly in just about every way, it gives the Estate Cuvee a run for its money and is more than worth your time and money.   WA 94 (12/2017): A blend of 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Cabernet Franc, 3% Petit Verdot and 4% Malbec, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Samantha's gives a deep garnet-purple color and delivers a pleasantly meaty nose of beef drippings and charcuterie with underlying baked cherries, red and black currant notions and a waft of cigar boxes. Full-bodied and firmly structured with chewy tannins and compelling freshness, the palate features loads of savory black and red fruit flavors and a nice long finish. 549 cases were made.   VM 94 (3/2018): Black cherry, plum, chocolate, spice and menthol infuse the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Samantha's. Pliant, supple and forward, the 2015 offers notable fruit intensity and voluptuousness in a rich, dense style. Objectively, what the 2015 needs is more persistence and follow through from start to finish, and perhaps a bit less new oak. Antonio Galloni.   WS 94 (10/2019): This is full of boysenberry, fig and blackberry compote flavors, laced with licorice root and roasted apple wood notes, all carried by a swath of loamy grip through the finish. Best from 2021 through 2035. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. 668 cases made.

	JD 97 (8/2017): A similar blend to the 2015, the 2014 Terry Hoage Vineyard (48% Syrah, 30% Grenache and 22% Mourvèdre) is a deeper, richer wine that offers sensational notes of blackberries, currants, pepper, crushed violets and hints of graphite. Deep, rich and layered, yet light on its feet as well as elegant and graceful, this sensational 2014 has sweet tannin, good acidity and a big finish. Give bottles a year or two (it’s great today as well) and enjoy through 2028.

	WA 94 (12/2016): Celia Welch has hit a home run again with the legendary J.J. Cohn Vineyard in Rutherford, a site that includes a block of old vines planted in 1945, which certainly must make them some of the oldest Cabernet vines in all of Napa Valley. There are 2,000 cases of the 2014 Monsieur Etain, which is a great enough Cabernet by itself. Wonderfully pure crème de cassis notes with some white flowers, lead pencil shavings and incense are followed by a deep, full-bodied wine with silky tannins, a layered, multi-dimensional mouthfeel and a beautiful finish of 40+ seconds. This is an exquisite, dense, rich but sexy Cabernet Sauvignon. And now for the good news – there are 2,000 cases of it. Drink it over the next 20 or more years.
	2015	M. Etain Cohn Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon	$219	8
	JD 94 (12/2017): The 2015 M. Etain from winemaker Celia Welch is a beautiful wine but due to the devastating yields, there’s just a tiny 400 cases produced (there’s close to 2,000 cases of the 2014). It offers terrific amounts of crème de cassis, roasted herbs, chocolate, and graphite nuances in a full-bodied, rounded, concentrated style that’s already impossible to resist. A blend of almost all Cabernet Sauvignon (there’s a small amount of Petit Verdot) that was brought up in 80% new French oak, it has ripe tannin, a balanced, layered style, and will keep for 15-20 years.

	VM 92 (4/2018): The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon (Alexander Valley) is a fabulous introduction to the Scherrer wines. Sweet tobacco, cedar, licorice, smoke and wild cherry notes infuse this deep, wonderfully textured Cabernet. 	VM 92 (5/2019): The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon is an absolutely gorgeous wine that will drink well right out of the gate. Silky tannins and pliant fruit balance the more earthy, savory elements that are signatures of the Scherrer Cabernets. All the elements simply fall into place in this mid-weight Cabernet Sauvignon. 	VM 93+ (4/2018): A deep, unctuous wine, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Scherrer Vineyard is dark, potent and brooding. In 2014, the two Cabernets are not as differentiated as they often are, especially in the early going. It will be interesting to see if the wines diverge more over time. All that said, the Scherrer Vineyard exudes depth and textural richness, with plenty of torrefaction, chocolate, spice and licorice notes that add nuance to the dark-toned fruit. The 2014 spent three years in barrel (long by California standards), about two-thirds new. The Scherrer Vineyard Cabernet emerges from a parcel planted on St. George rootstock. Antonio Galloni.

	WA 100 (12/2017): Coming from the Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard, from blocks C2, D2 and B2 planted predominately to clone 4, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard Schrader is intensely scented of vibrant blackberries, black plums and cassis, with touches of Indian spices, eucalypt, mocha and tilled black soil plus a waft of oolong tea. Medium to full-bodied, the palate comes through with a compelling chocolate-covered cherries character and tons of subtle layers, structured with very firm, very fine-grained tannins and impressive freshness, finishing with epic persistence. 213 cases produced.

	WA 98 (10/2016): Another one of my favorites is the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon CCS, which is clone 4 from the To Kalon Vineyard in Oakville. This is aged in 100% new Darnajou and is one of the larger cuvées at 510 cases. Wonderfully sweet, velvety tannins, a big sweet nose of white flowers, blackberry and cassis along with cedar wood, charcoal and graphite are all present in this full-bodied opulent wine that also retains wonderful elegance. It finished at 14.6% alcohol and will drink beautifully now as well as over the next 15-20 years.

	JD 100 (12/2017): The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard CCS is the gem in the lineup and is a perfect wine in every sense. Possessing a deep purple color, awesome minerality in its graphite, blueberry, cassis, and spice-driven aromatics, full-bodied richness and a weightless, elegant yet powerful style that needs to be tasted to be believed, this heavenly 2015 glides over the palate and is as seamless and pure as they come. Ideally it will be given a few years of bottle and it’s capable of developing for 20+ years.   WA 99 (12/2017): Coming from the Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard, block C1 planted to clone 4, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon CCS has a very pretty nose of ripe plums, black cherries and mulberries with an undercurrent of violets, licorice, marmite toast and cigar box plus a touch of aged beef. Medium to full-bodied, the palate struts great finesse, with very fine, silt-like tannins supporting the nuanced black fruit layers, finishing very long and with great purity. 683 cases produced.   JS 98 (12/2018): Wonderful blue fruits and stones with ink and blood undertones. Full-bodied, tight and very focused with super refined tannins. A long, flavorful finish. Great wine. Drink in 2021 but already gorgeous.

	WA 94 (10/2016): Slightly less impressive, but still a brilliant wine, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Colesworthy comes across as more backward and closed with a Graves-like minerality. This also hails from the Las Piedras Vineyard and was aged 20 months in 100% new Darnajou. This was the most reserved of all of the 2014s from Schrader, will probably benefit from several years of bottle age, and keep for 15 or more years.

Wonderful balance and structure. 	WA 96 (10/2016): The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon RBS is made from the same clone (337) as the Georges III, but comes from the To Kalon Vineyard in Oakville and not the Rutherford Georges III. This was aged in 85% new Darnajou and 15% new Taransaud. It has fabulous concentration, notes of incense, licorice, blackcurrants, blackberries, as well as spring flowers. The wine is juicy, savory and full-bodied, with wonderful underlying energy and freshness. This wine is a more forward style than we saw with the 2013s, and is best drunk over the next 16-20 years.

	WA 92 (2/2017): Deep garnet-purple, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Home Ranch Cuvee offers notes of black and red currants, blueberries and cigar boxes with hints of bay leaves, menthol and mocha. Full-bodied and richly fruited in the mouth, the generous black berry and menthol flavors are well supported by firm, ripe tannins and just enough freshness, finishing long.

	VM 96 (3/2018): The 2015 Ulysses brings together the richness of the year with a good bit of underlying support. Dark and powerful in the glass, but with silky tannins and striking purity of fruit, the 2015 is a wonderfully complete wine. Black cherry, plum, gravel, lavender, and menthol give the 2015 many of its aromatic and flavor signatures. Readers will find much to admire in the 2015. The interplay of aromatics, fruit and structure places Ulysses among the finest wines of the vintage. Antonio Galloni.   JS 96 (5/2018): Aromas of dark fruit, such as blackberries and black olives, as well as black tea and tanned leather. Raspberries and lemon spices, too. Full-bodied, very tight and polished with beautiful tannins and a weave of fruit and acidity to beautifully buttress the whole wine. Balanced and bright for the vintage. Drink in 2020 and onwards.   WA 95 (10/2017): Possessing mere splashes of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon has a beautifully expressive crème de cassis nose with underlying black cherries, chocolate box, star anise and violets plus touches of pencil shavings and beef drippings. Medium to full-bodied, it delivers a quiet intensity of black fruits and restrained earthy layers supported by chewy tannins and plenty of freshness, finishing long with mineral and savory nuances. It has lovely elegance and depth. It needs another 2-3 years in bottle, then it should cellar gracefully over the next 20+ years. 1,000 cases were made.   JD 95 (1/2019): Made by the team at Dominus, yet from a slightly different terroir that’s more draining and slightly lesser density plantings, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon is 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Petit Verdot, and 5% Cabernet Franc. It’s a vibrant, elegant wine that has an exotic character in its blue fruits, gravelly minerality, dried herbs, and savory forest floor aromas and flavors. Medium to full-bodied, with good concentration and integrated acidity, it needs 3-5 years of bottle age to come together and is a beautiful wine.   WS 93 (6/2019): Youthfully tight, featuring a wall of toast and dark earth notes out front, keeping a hefty core of steeped currant, blackberry and fig fruit at bay for now. The long, loamy spine carries the finish, with tobacco and alder notes filling in. Very backward now. This will require patience. Best from 2024 through 2038. 1,000 cases made.

	VM 94 (4/2018): (14.9% alcohol): Bright full ruby. Complex, dark aromas of crushed cassis and black raspberry, licorice, cocoa powder, coffee and cedary cigar box. Seriously dense and stuffed with fruit; perhaps a bit less refined and harmonious today than the extraordinary 2013 but even sweeter in the early going and quite juicy for a wine from a drought year. This very rich, long wine finishes with sweet, horizontal tannins and subtle minerality. I should note that I tasted two other bottles of this wine of roughly equal quality, but both were tighter and more medicinal, perhaps in the process of shutting down. From a drawn-out harvest that started very early, on September 8, but did not finish until October 10. Stephen Tanzer.

	WA 98+ (12/2017): Very deep garnet-purple, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon 29 Estate has a wonderfully complex nose chock full of smoked meat, yeast extract, toast, sautéed herbs and savory notes over a crème de cassis and blackberry tart core with hints of violets, damp loam and black truffles. Full-bodied, concentrated and full-on opulent in the mouth, the palate is laden with savory, earth and dark fruit layers with a velvety frame and lively lift on the long finish. 670 cases were made.   VM 94 (3/2018): The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Vineyard 29 Estate is tremendous. A big, ample wine, the 29 Estate packs a real punch. Even so, there is fabulous balance, especially for such a big, potent wine. A rush of black cherry, smoke, chocolate, licorice and cloves all build into the plush, flamboyant finish. The 2015 is not a shy wine, but it is impeccable in its balance. I loved it.
