WA 94 (12/2001): The 1999 Gewurztraminer Altenbourg Vendanges Tardives explodes from the glass with roses, lychee nuts, and spices. Full-bodied, rich, and opulent, this is a compellingly huge yet elegant offering. Its exuberant personality possesses candied berries, rose water, violets, mangoes, poached pears, and clove notes. Anticipated maturity: now-2014. VM 93 (7/2001): Intriguing aromas of jasmine, gardenia, curry powder and minerals. Extremely rich, fat and full in the mouth; dusty but not bitter on the back end. Very spicy and very long. Tastes less sweet than its 102 g/l r.s. would suggest. Stephen Tanzer. |

WA 93+ (3/2023): The 2020 Grand Cru Furstentum Gewurztraminer opens with clear, fresh and pure, even minty scents on the nose that displays bright rather than dark fruit. Round and sweetish and initially with good freshness but not the depth complexity of the Altenbourg, this is an intense but also sweetish Gewurz with candied fruit aromas and a rather linear finish that doesn't open as much as the Altenbourg, although it is sweeter and maybe finer. 13.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in May 2022. |

VM 93+ (2/2016): Medium yellow-gold. Aromas and flavors of orange rind, lemon custard, pear and cinnamon are complicated by vanilla and a hint of lemony botrytis. Tactile and light on its feet, with bright acidity giving focus to the gooseberry, tropical fruit and flint flavors. Finishes very long, with intense lemon and spice notes. About 15% of the berries were hit by noble rot. Lovely VT. Ian D'Agata. |

VM 95 (4/2023): The 2020 Pinot Noir Altenbourg is from a southwest-facing lieu-dit and has the same iron-rich marls as Vogelgarten. This is from two blocks, one from the 1960s; the other is a massal selection from Clos des Epenots in Pommard planted 20 years ago. The blocks make up half each of the blend. The nose is full of red cherry but has a lovely herbal lift. The palate unfurls like a smooth, tender, soft, glossy bale of silk. The structure is superfine; tannins still brush gently. Most elegant, wonderfully supple, exquisitely fresh. This will evolve beautifully. Anne Krebiehl. |

VM 92+? (11/2003): Very spicy aromas of orange peel, apricot pit, ginger and wet stone, with a minty high note. Spicy, rich and full, with hints of exotic fruit supported by firm mineral spine. This offers lovely purity and grip, finishing with a drier impression than the 2001. Stephen Tanzer. |

Riesling Clos des Capucines Cuvee Ste. Catherine |

VM 95 (11/2016): Golden yellow. Marmelady botrytis complicates mango, crystallized ginger and baked apple on the nose. Then ripe and rich but very fresh with baked apple pie, nutmeg, orange oil and musky notes on the long, vibrant and very tactile finish. Outstanding Riesling that bears more than just a passing resemblance to something that Olivier Humbrecht might make. About 30% of the grapes were hit by noble rot, which forced the Fallers to harvest quickly (even before their Gewürz was picked, which is unheard of), but the resulting combination of smoky complexity and ripe fruit opulence is memorable. This sports 7.3 g/L residual sugar, 7 g/L total acidity, 14.1% alcohol, and a 3.2 pH. Ian D'Agata. |

|
VM 93+ (12/2003): Higher-pitched on the nose than the 2001, with aromas of honey, stone and fresh herbs. Highly concentrated and powerfully structured but still an infant, with the wine's strong acids and pronounced stoniness currently suppressing its fruit. Not yet displaying its personality, but the wine's great length suggests that it needs only patience. |

|
WA 94 (3/2023): The 2019 Grand Cru Schlossberg Riesling offers a pure, intense and elegant, crystalline and finely concentrated bouquet of bright fruits intertwined with lemon and grapefruit bitters. Lush and round on the generous but refined and balanced palate, this is an intense, saline and very elegant Schlossberg with a long, intense and complex but never alcoholic finish. Very promising classic, linear style. 13.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in May 2022. |
