| BH 87 (1/2017): This is at once notably ripe yet quite fresh with liqueur-like red berry fruit aromas. There is excellent volume to the delicious middle weight flavors that possess fine richness and punch on the lightly structured finale. This would make a very good choice for a delicious yet serious house red. By the way, Hudelot consistently seems to do well with their Bourgogne and this admirable effort will only add to that reputation. |

BH 86-88 (1/2023): A fresh and quite peppery nose speaks mostly of red currant and earth. The delicious and wonderfully vibrant lighter weight flavors possess fine definition on the lingering finale that just makes one feel like drinking it. This is built on its fruit but no less interesting for it. Drink starting 2023.
VM 85-87 (1/2023): The 2021 Bourgogne Rouge, which had been racked into tank the previous week, has a gentle bouquet that unfolds in the glass, with blackberry and mulberry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with a sappy entry, fine acidity, plus a sour cherry/prune note on the finish. Fine. Drink starting 2024-2030. Neal Martin. |

BH 92 (2/2011): (from two separate parcels, one to the left of the Château and another situated to the right by the Meo-Camuzet vines). A densely fruited nose of very fresh and reasonably refined animale and earth-suffused red currant and plum aromas introduces exceptionally pure and gorgeously textured middle weight flavors that also possess excellent volume and plenty of taut muscularity on the slightly herbal, long, austere and detailed finish. A balanced effort that should amply reward mid-term cellaring, at least by the standards of this cru. Drink 2020+.
WA 92 (5/2011): The estate’s 2008 Clos de Vougeot is a pretty, layered and open wine laced with dark red fruit, flowers and black pepper. It is a soft, supple 2008, and while undoubtedly very well-made, it lacks the visceral thrill of the very finest wines of the vintage. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2022.
VM 91+ (4/2011): Good deep red. Reticent aromas of maraschino cherry and menthol, lifted by a tangy note of tangerine. Then brooding, deep and backward, with a distinctly medicinal quality to the dark cherry, fresh herb and licorice flavors. Dense and stuffed with material, but the most obviously tannic of the 2008 line-up from this estate. This has shut down since I tasted it from barrel in November of 2009. |

BH 92-94 (1/2012): (from two separate parcels, one to the left of the Château and another situated to the right by the Meo-Camuzet vines; the 2010 was vinified with about 10% whole clusters). A very mild floral hint adds elegance to the ripe red berry fruit and distinctly earth-inflected nose. There is excellent richness to the impressively scaled and overtly powerful flavors that possess fine balance and focus on the lingering finish. Lovely juice with a bit less youthful austerity than I typically find with this wine. Drink 2022+
VM 92-94 (2/2012): Good bright red. Black cherry, menthol, licorice, coffee, mocha and violet on the nose, with a high note of blood orange. Then silky and dry in the mouth, with a wonderfully refined texture for a young Clos-Vougeot. Plenty of power here as well. Really spreads out to saturate the palate on the back end, finishing with a savory, subtle perfume and terrific tactile persistence.
WA 91-93 (2/2012): The 2010 Clos de Vougeot is quite open and radiant at this stage. This is a totally gorgeous Clos de Vougeot that captures plenty of finesse with none of the austerity or angularity that can sometimes plague wines from this site. A pointed, mineral-drenched finish balances the wine beautifully. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2030. |

JG 94 (12/2012): This is one of my favorite examples of Clos Vougeot year in and year out and the 2011 is another classic in the making. The beautifully refined nose delivers scents of cherries, red plums, raw cocoa, gamebirds, a complex base of soil and a stylish framing of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and nicely reserved, with excellent purity and focus, fine mid-palate concentration, ripe, firm tannins and excellent grip on the well-balanced and very long finish. Fine juice. Drink 2023-2060+.
BH 92 (1/2014): (From two separate parcels, one to the left of the Château and another situated to the right by the Meo-Camuzet vines; the 2011 was vinified with about 20% whole clusters). This is quite floral with wood influence that is akin to sandalwood as it's quite fragrant but not toasty or especially spicy. There is plenty of earth influence on the array of red berry fruit suffused nose that complements the broad-scaled flavors that possess excellent size and weight before concluding in a beautifully persistent if decidedly linear and ever-so-mildly herbaceous finish. The supporting tannins are quite fine though this definitely needs to flesh out. Drink 2023+.
VM 91-94 (2/2013): (25% vendange entier): Saturated deep red. Aromas of black cherry, spicy underbrush and smoke. Silky, sweet and pliant; in fact, remarkably round and seamless for young Clos-Vougeot. Finishes long and ripely tannic, with excellent lift. Very well-judged extraction and use of stems here. |

BH 92 (1/2012): A soft touch of wood frames ripe and mostly red fruit aromas that are cut with plenty of earth and spice notes, both of which are also reflected by the fleshy and quite generous middle weight plus flavors that offer excellent mid-palate concentration and a seductively textured finish that is slightly sweet. This very serious and sneaky long effort will need every bit of ten years to arrive at its full maturity. Drink 2019+. Outstanding!
WS 92 (6/2012): This round red ispacked with cherry, plum and spice flavors, with profuse tannins to keep it structured and well-defined. Nicely proportioned, though should benefit from a few years aging. Best from 2015 through 2028. 10 cases imported.
VM 90 (4/2012): Moderately saturated red. Musky aromas of strawberry and truffle, accented by spicy oak. Sweet, plump and voluminous, with a slightly liqueur-like quality to the red fruit and mocha flavors. Plenty of fat here for early pleasure but I wanted a bit more lift. The broad finish features dusty tannins. |

| BH 90-93 (1/2015): Reduction is sufficiently strong so as to render the nose impossible to evaluate. There is excellent size, weight and density to the medium-bodied flavors that possess a really lovely mouth feel thanks to the abundant dry extract as well as the quality of the tannins which are finer than usual. Even so the Nuits roots are in evidence as the lingering finish does display a touch of rusticity as well as an interesting hint of blood orange. This is well worth considering provided that you have at least a modicum of patience. Drink 2023+. |

BH 92 (1/2020): A restrained and beautifully fresh nose offers up notes of red and dark currant, violet, earth and a hint of wood toast. There is good muscle, punch and power to the middle weight flavors that exude a fine bead of minerality on the beautifully persistent if youthfully austere and well-detailed finish. This is a blend of power and refinement as the supporting tannins are admirably fine-grained.
VM 92 (1/2020): The 2017 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Murgers 1er Cru offers dark cherry, black tea, sous-bois and traces of truffle on a nose that opens nicely with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy red fruit (cranberry and raspberry) and lightly spiced with orange peel and even hints of marmalade toward the firm, quite "serious" finish. Good potential. WA 92 (1/2020): The 2017 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Murgers is open and demonstrative, bursting with aromas of cherries, red berries and plums mingled with savory notes of grilled game and raw cocoa. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, succulent and charming, with a generous core of fruit and melting tannins. |

VM 93 (5/2007): Dark red. Youthful raspberry and blackberry aromas accented by gingerbread, along with deeper mocha, smoked meat and candied rose accents. Lush, suave and deep, with a bright, zesty mineral quality adding impressive lift and precision to the deep, sweet red and dark berry flavors. Finishes with a liqueur-like raspberry quality and excellent depth and persistence. More alluring today than the 2001 and I suspect that this will drink well earlier, if for no other reason than for its sweetness and supple texture.
BH 91-94 (1/2004): A dazzlingly complex and fine nose that is absolutely regal in its elegance and incredible breadth of spice-box aromas are followed ripe, relatively accessible yet incredibly intense flavors that display marvelous depth and perfect balance. Sappy and sweet yet the powerfully long finish is beautifully detailed and focused. A wine that is at once highly expressive yet a model of grace and understatement. In short, this is wonderfully classy juice. |

| BH 95 (1/2012): This also sports discreet wood influence on the intensely floral and kaleidoscopically spicy nose of blue berry and black cherry aromas that introduce rich, intense and naturally sweet middle weight flavors that are lacy, pure and almost delicate before culminating in a suave, explosive and magnificently long finish. This is just terrific and the balance is impeccable. Note however that like the 2010 version, the ultra-fine tannins are also quite dense and this will also require 15 years or so of cellar time before it will be ready for prime time. Drink 2024+. |

VM 95+ (3/2013): Good full red. Ineffable aromas and flavors of red berries, cocoa powder, smoked meat, faded rose and wild herbs, plus a whiff of game. Still a bit youthfully tough on the palate, but already communicates great grip and energy; comes across as deeper and more masculine than the 2011 version. Finishes surprisingly lush, with perfectly integrated tannins and Outstanding subtle length. Stephen Tanzer.
BH 94 (1/2013): This was also relatively reduced and impossible to evaluate. The utterly seductive medium weight flavors possess a silky mouth feel and superb balance which in much the same fashion as the Beaux Monts is enhanced by the very fine grained tannins before culminating in an explosive, focused and strikingly long finish. This highly-sophisticated effort seems quite supple as the firm tannins are hidden by the abundant sap but make no mistake, this will require plenty of cellar time before it's completely ready. Despite all of the considerable potential this is displaying this level of reduction is cause for concern and while it may pass, that is an assumption. Drink 2025+. |

VM 92+ (4/2008): Good deep red. Pungent aromas of dark raspberry, rose petal, blood orange and bitter chocolate. Then juicy and precise in the mouth but tight and backward. A wonderfully sappy, vibrant wine whose firm acids will require several years of cellaring. Not at all pliant today-in fact this is distinctly ungiving-and yet I find this wine's energy, cut and floral perfume to be exhilarating.
WS 92 (5/2008): Freshness and finesse are the highlights of this red, along with violet, red currant, raspberry and mineral notes. Firm and tense, like a coiled spring, with a lingering aftertaste of wild berry. Best from 2014 through 2026. 25 cases imported.
BH 89-91 (1/2007): The slightly higher-toned nose is even fresher and brighter with a similar nose of spicy black fruit trimmed in obvious minerality that introduces complex, delicious and somewhat more forward middle weight flavors that possess good detail and the same firm mineral streak suggested by the nose. This is classy juice with excellent length and while I like the greater finesse here versus the Suchots, the latter wine has better mid-palate fat and concentration. Drink 2011+. |

WA 92-94 (2/2012): The 2010 Vosne-Romanee Les Beaux Monts blossoms on the palate with tons of class and finesse. I especially like the restrained style, but at the same time there is no shortage of personality and depth in this totally sexy, voluptuous Beaux Monts. Persistent saline notes lend brightness to the well-articulated finish. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2030.
BH 91-93 (1/2012): This had just been racked and not surprisingly was quite closed though aggressive swirling coaxed grudging aromas of spice, wet stone and cassis. The pure and intensely mineral-inflected flavors are shaped by exceptionally fine-grained tannins as well as excellent length on the pure, balanced and energetic finish. This is a wine of finesse and while it's notably finer than the Suchots, it's not as complex or at least not yet. Drink 2018+. Outstanding!
VM 91-94 (2/2012): (racked a week before my visit): Bright red. Very pure, high-pitched aromas of red fruits, flowers, blood orange and citrus zest. Silky, pretty and sharply delineated, but not showing its texture today. This intense, very pure wine really saturates the mouth with flavor and vibrates on the tangy finish. Notable more for its perfume than for its weight and finishes with very suave, fine-grained tannins. |

| BH 89 (4/2017): A relatively high-toned nose reflects notes of various red berries and floral scents that are trimmed in just enough earth to notice. The lighter weight but delicious flavors exude a fine bead of minerality on the reasonably well-balanced finish that offers good if not special depth and persistence. While this has not quite peaked it's not so far away that it couldn't be enjoyed now. Try from 2019+. |
