| WA 94 (5/2011): The 2008 Gevrey-Chambertin Lavaux St.-Jacques opens with sweet, floral notes that meld into spices and dark red fruits. Textured and enveloping throughout, the Lavaux St. Jacques impresses for the sheer pleasure it provides. The finish remains a bit taut, but in another few years this should be a gem. It is a dazzling wine from Claude Dugat. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2028. |

| BH 87-90 (4/2016): An extremely subtle application of wood sets off the exuberantly fresh aromas of red currant, pomegranate, lilac and discreet spice nuances. There is a really lovely intensity to the pure and restrained middle weight flavors that seem to be built on a firm base of minerality, all wrapped in an austere and mildly dry finish. I like the delivery but the balance isn't ideal and it's not completely clear if this will harmonize in time but I have my doubts. |

JD 98 (11/2021): The 2018 Volnay 1er Clos Du Chateau Des Ducs is more expressive and showy right out of the gate and has a complex, sexy, incredibly impressive style that's a joy to drink. Ripe cherries, mulberries, rose petals, Asian spices, dried herbs, and incense all emerge from this beauty, and it's as seamless and layered as they come, with ripe, velvety tannins, no hard edges, medium to full body, and flawless balance. It's already drinking nicely yet will cruise for 20+ years in cold cellars.
VM 92 (11/2022): The 2018 Volnay Clos du Château des Ducs 1er Cru has a little more transparency and elegance on the nose compared to its peers, brambly red fruit with a touch of sous-bois and tobacco leaf. The palate is well-defined with fine tannins. A crisp line of acidity imparts tension with more sapidity than its peers. Harmonious, fine weight in the mouth with a Pommard-like grip on the finish, this is a finely crafted, commendable Volnay, one that defies the negative tropes of the vintage. VM 91 (1/2020): The 2017 Chablis is beautifully pure, but also classically austere, which of course won't be an issue in time, but should be a consideration for readers who want something to drink now. The orchard fruit, citrus, mint and floral notes are very nicely delineated, especially for a village-level wine. I came back to the Chablis after all the Grand Crus. While it was obviously not at the same level, the village more than held its own. The 2017 is an impressive wine by any measure. It is a stellar wine. Readers who can find it should jump. BH 89 (10/2019): An admirably subtle application of wood sets off iodine-inflected aromas pear, apple and soft citrus scents. The sleek yet generously proportioned medium weight flavors retain a reasonably good sense of underlying tension on the nicely detailed, clean, moderately dry and once again, saline finish. This will need to add a bit of depth but the underlying material appears to be present for that to occur. |

| BH 92 (10/2019): (from 1.49 holding of 40+ year old vines.) Wafting aromas of essence of pear, iodine and copious amounts of mineral reduction are also trimmed in just enough wood to mention. The succulent yet powerful broad-shouldered flavors possess excellent muscle and intensity on the super-saline, indeed this has an almost salty finish. Fine quality here and built-to-age as well. Drink 2027+. Outstanding! |

VM 92 (1/2020): The 2017 Chablis Forêt 1er Cru is soft, open-knit and gracious. Almond, marzipan, dried lemon peel, sage, dried flowers and mint all grace this wonderfully expressive and inviting Chablis. The 2017 was only bottled about two months before this tasting, but it is one of the more accessible wines in the range, which means it will likely be one of the first of the 2017s to be fully expressive. Medium in body and absolutely impeccable in its balance, the 2017 has a lot to offer. Antonio Galloni.
BH 91 (10/2019): An overtly floral nose consists mostly of spiced pear, citrus and algae-infused aromas that are trimmed in subtle wood influence. There is a lush, even opulent mouth feel to the seductively textured middle weight plus flavors that possess lovely minerality that adds a sense of lift to the impressively long finish that tightens up significantly. In contrast to the Montmains, this is more powerful but less precise and even a bit less complex, at least today. Note that at least some patience is advised. |

VM 90 (8/2017): Pale yellow. Citrus and chalk aromas suggest a cooler wine than the Vaillons but are nonetheless already expressive. Tangy, minerally and light on its feet, with well-delineated lemon, lime and fresh herb flavors dominating. Offers an enticing hint of sweetness that's nicely buffered by the limestone. Made from a cooler, east-facing site, this premier cru practically tastes like it's from a different vintage than the Vaillons. Finishes vibrant and firm. Stephen Tanzer.
BH 89 (10/2017): There is plenty of petrol character to the ripe and fresh nose that features a hint of sea breeze on the mostly white orchard fruit and citrus-tinged nose. The appealingly textured and solidly well-concentrated flavors possess ample levels of dry extract as well as fine intensity on the lingering and sappy if somewhat rustic and slightly warm finale. This is very Vaudevey in character, which is to say a robust and powerful effort of limited refinement but certainly no lack of punch. Note that this could be enjoyed young though I would suggest holding it for at least 2 to 3 years first.
WA 88 (8/2017): The 2015 Chablis 1er Cru Les Vaudevey is usually the last to be picked although head winemaker Grégory Viennois says that in this year it was not picked last, in order to capture the acidity. It offers light cooking apple and chalky scents on the nose that would benefit from more vigor. The palate is well balanced with a peachy, nectarine opening and a touch of orange rind toward the finish, with decent length and tension. Enjoy this over the next four to five years. |

VM 97 (3/2020): A stunning wine, the 2017 Ornellaia offers a captivating interplay of richness and energy. Picking early was the key. Young vine Cabernet Sauvignon and Franc were harvested in August for the first time ever. In the glass, the 2017 offers up an enticing melange of mocha, cedar, tobacco and licorice, with soft curves that add to its sensuality and allure. The 2017 is sumptuous and racy, as Ornellaias from warmer years tend to be, but it is not at all heavy or overdone. In a word: superb! Antoni Galloni.
JS 95-96 (9/2018): A solid and powerful young red with a linear line of tannins and fruit running through it. Very serious. Tannic and focused. |

Balanced and long, this has a distinctly Old World feel and looks set to unravel its complex facets slowly. Terrific length. Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Best from 2022 through 2043. 25,000 cases made, 4,000 cases imported.
JS 96 (5/2020): The balance and beauty to this is impressive, offering sweet, ripe currants and flowers with some crushed-stone and dry-earth undertones. Full-bodied with soft, polished tannins and a long, creamy-textured finish. It’s polished, yet concentrated. Better after 2022, but already very seductive.
VM 94 (1/2021): The 2017 Sassicaia shows the natural richness and intensity of the year while retaining its mid-weight sense of balance and overall poise. A burst of super-ripe red cherry/plum fruit makes a strong opening statement. Mocha, cinnamon, leather and dried herbs appear later, adding aromatic lift. The 2017 is a fairly immediate Sassicaia. Even so, it has enough energy to drink well for a number of years. Production is down 35%, a combination of naturally low yields, dehydration on the vine and then selection in the cellar. Most of the fruit comes from the estate’ hillside vineyards, older parcels that resisted the conditions better. Antonio Galloni.

The 2017 vintage forces you to think about vintage challenges, winemaking variables and problem solving. The 2017 vintage was not easy and only the most experienced winemakers were able to navigate it successfully. Thanks to the significant know-how and foresight of its creators, the 2017 Sassicaia achieves all of its basic promises with success. |

JD 96 (10/2019): The 2017 Oublie is a blockbuster, ranking with the finest wines in the vintage. Based on 56% Grenache, 22% Mourvèdre, 22% Syrah, brought up in 50% neutral barrels, its vivid purple color is followed by a full-bodied, powerful, yet elegant red that has a great nose of cassis, blackberries, white flowers, leafy herbs, and hints of pepper. It packs some muscle yet stays flawlessly balanced. Drink it over the coming decade.
VM 95 (2/2020): Saturated ruby. Deeply perfumed, spice-tinged aromas of black raspberry, floral oils, smoky minerals and vanilla; a mineral nuance builds in the glass. Juicy and densely packed but energetic as well, conveying a suave blend of power and finesse to the sweet red and blue fruit, violet pastille and spicecake flavors. Delivers a serious punch but comes off lithe, showing outstanding clarity and floral drive on an extremely long, gently tannic finish. 45% new puncheons. Josh Raynolds.
WA 92 (2/2020): The 2017 Oublié is a blend of 56% Grenache, 22% Syrah and 22% Mourvèdre aged in 35% new French oak. Medium to deep ruby, it has broody aromas of black cherries, underbrush, cured meats, dried red currants and dried cranberries with touches of graphite. The palate is medium to full-bodied and earthy with firm, grainy tannins and great freshness to lift the long, dense finish. This needs time! |

JD 92 (8/2023): Bottled late, the 2020 Perl is based on 91% Syrah and 9% Grenache that spent 24 months in 50% new oak. Coming from sourced fruit on the west side of Paso, it has a richer, medium to full-bodied style that brings plenty of darker berry fruits, some graphite and iron notes, some firmer, chalky tannins, and a good finish. It's well done and enjoyable.
VM 90 (5/2023): Dark and brooding in the glass, the 2020 Perl opens with savory herbs, ashen stone and black currants. It's soft-textured with crisp minerality and soothingly ripe dark fruits. The 2020 finishes with tension, lightly tannic and a salted licorice note. This is the first vintage of Perl, a blend of 91% Syrah and 9% Grenache from mostly sourced fruit. Eric Guido. |

JD 95 (12/2023): The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Stags Leap District is based on 91% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc, 3% Merlot, and minuscule percentages of Petit Verdot and Malbec that's all from estate fruit in the Stags Leap District. It offers a pure, medium to full-bodied, incredibly elegant style as well as tons of minerality in its red and black fruits, ripe, building tannins, nicely integrated acidity, and just a kiss of background oak. I love the overall style of this beauty, which will compete with wines two to three times the price.
WA 92 (12/2023): Chimney Rock's 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Stags Leap District is pretty textbook stuff, delivering black cherries and cassis dusted in dried earth and mixed spices. Medium to full-bodied, it's silky and fine, not overpowering but rather elegant, with a long, lingering finish.
VM 91 (12/2023): The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley) is bright, punchy and super-expressive. Black cherry, plum, mocha, dark spice and licorice are nicely pushed forward. This is a serious appellation-level wine with good depth and plenty of structure. Antonio Galloni. |

| JD 97 (1/2021): A wine that was previous released under the Kata label, the 2018 Beckstoffer Bourn is a gorgeous 2018 that does everything right, offering a vivid purple color, incredible notes of blue fruits, cassis, violets, chocolate, and graphite, full-bodied richness, a sexy, opulent texture, and sweet tannins. Mostly Cabernet Sauvignon yet with 10% Petit Verdot, it’s one of the more approachable, ready-to-go wines in the Realm lineup in 2018, yet my money is on this beauty evolving for 20 years or more. |

This incredibly rich, sweet white is almost like the Quintessence bottlings from Alsace’s Domaine Weinbach. Its mind-boggling purity, balance, intensity, and sweetness are balanced by the wine’s zesty acidity. An amazing achievement fashioned from 100% botrytised fruit, it will keep for 20 or more years. |
