WS 96 (3/2022): Complex, detailed and layered, with terrific intensity to the pineapple, mango and peach flavors, which are joined by details of salted butterscotch, dried fennel, star anise, mineral and honeycomb. Packs plenty of juiciness on the long, expressive finish that just goes on and on. Drink now through 2030. 1,127 cases made. |

UV-SL Vyd. Chardonnay |
$125 |

WA 96-98 (12/2022): The 2021 Chardonnay UV-SL comes from largely Goldridge soils in parcels owned and managed by the Valdez family (UV being the initials of Ulises Valdez, Aubert's frequent vineyard collaborator, who died in 2018). There are 2,000 cases of this elixir, which offers up classic notes of toasted hazelnuts, white peaches and citrus zest. It's full-bodied, rich and opulent yet contained and controlled, with great silky length and energy. Aubert describes the oak thusly: "The oak is perfect. It just kisses you with a bit of vanilla and cookie dough." The wine is certainly delicious, and thinking back on it, I wonder if my rating is a bit conservative. VM 95-97 (8/2023): The 2021 Chardonnay UV-SL Vineyard is one of the more exotic wines in the range. Initially a bit ethereal, the 2021 opens beautifully on the mid-palate and finish, where it shows tremendous breadth and notable mineral intensity. The UV-SL is not quite as obvious as some of the other wines in this range, but its pedigree is evident. There's real density here, and tons of class. Antonio Galloni. |

UV-SL Vyd. Chardonnay |
$115 |

WA 95 (7/2024): The largest-production wine in the portfolio at approximately 2,300 cases, the 2022 Chardonnay UV-SL hints at powder-sugared brioche on the nose, backed by lemon-lime notes and some apple-ish fruit. From multiple rootstocks and clonal selections, it's full-bodied and expansive on the palate, generous, rich and long. Don't be fooled into thinking this is "just" the entry-level wine, it's serious stuff. VM 95 (1/2024): The 2022 Chardonnay UV-SL Vineyard is a potent, driving wine. Readers should be in no rush, as the 2022 is quite reticent and in need of cellaring. Strong mineral and phenolic notes dominate, while everything else is in the background. Lemon confit, pear, ginger and white flowers open with some coaxing, but this needs time. The only question is how much. Antonio Galloni. |

Dupratt Vyd. Chardonnay |
$40 |

VM 92 (4/2018): The 2015 Chardonnay DuPratt Vineyard is quite powerful and dense, but still very much within the understated style that is such a Copain signature. Pear, smoke, slate and flinty notes all flesh out in this textured, nuanced Chardonnay from Copain. The DuPratt is one of the more generous, creamy wines in the range. There is plenty of energy, but the DuPratt also has an extra kick of textural depth to balance things out. Antonio Galloni. |

Bressay Estate Chardonnay |
$60 |

WA 94 (7/2024): The 2022 Chardonnay Bressay Estate Vineyard, harvested on August 18th, was matured for 12 months in around 25% new oak and then spent an additional six months in stainless steel. It has pure aromas of Meyer lemon, fresh quince, crushed almonds and petrichor. The palate's kaleidoscopic layers of stone fruit, honey and floral perfume are arresting. It has a silky mouthfeel, refreshing acidity and a long, honey-nut finish. |

WA 94 (7/2024): The 2022 Chardonnay Chloe comes from three vineyards: Flora Marie (30%), El Diablo (30%) and Dumol's Bressay Estate Vineyard (40%). Grapes were harvested August 12, 18 and 26. It has heady, enveloping scents of peach, quince, lemongrass and jasmine, plus touches of toast and spice. The palate is silky and mouthwatering and features layer after layer of perfumed fruit that lingers in the mouth long after the wine has gone. |

2014 |
Clare Chardonnay |
$65 |

WA 95 (3/2017): The 2014 Chardonnay Clare has a white peach, preserved lemons and yuzu-scented nose with underlying touches of cedar, buttered toast and shaved almonds. The palate is bold and intensely fruited with a pleasant oiliness, yet it is medium-bodied, finishing long with lovely purity. VM 94 (3/2017): The 2014 Chardonnay Clare Hyde Vineyard is gorgeous, but it is also tightly wound and reticent. Readers will have to be patient here. Smoke, slate, graphite, earthiness and dried herbs wrap around a core of orchard fruit. This is a decidedly virile, powerful style, but all the elements are very nicely balanced. Antonio Galloni. |

VM 96 (1/2024): The 2021 Chardonnay Volpert Vineyard is a classic wine from the Taylor Lane District on the West Sonoma Coast. Bright, chiseled and focused, the 2021 screams with character. Lemon peel, white flowers, white pepper, slate, mint and crushed rocks are all beautifully delineated. This is seriously impressive. Antonio Galloni. |

WA 92 (2/2020): The 2017 Chardonnay SLH has a gregarious nose of baked red and Golden delicious apples, banana peel, quince and peach with notes of toast, smoke, hay, honey and lemon cream. Medium-bodied with intense tropical and stone fruit layers with honey-nut accents, it's creamy and rounded, refreshed by mouthwatering acidity and finishing long and energetic with pleasant texture. |

2019 |
Soberanes Vyd. Chardonnay |
$45 |
1 |
VM 94 (5/2022): Limpid yellow-gold. An expansive, mineral-accented bouquet evokes fresh citrus and orchard fruits, vanilla, buttered toast and chamomile. Shows impressive depth and fine delineation to its sappy tangerine, Anjou pear, sweet butter and fennel flavors, which tighten up steadily through the back half. Powerful yet nervy in style, displaying sharp focus and minerally thrust on an impressively long, tactile finish that features repeating floral and citrus fruit notes. 43% new French oak. Josh Raynolds. JD 95 (7/2021): The 2019 Chardonnay Soberanes Vineyard is cut from the same cloth as the appellation release yet offers more minerality as well as stone and orchard fruits, dried herbs, crushed stone, and green almonds. Deep, layered, medium to full-bodied, and nicely structured, it's a serious Chardonnay that will benefit from a year in bottle (or two years) and shine through 2029 or beyond. It's impressive. |

VM 90 (9/2023): The 2022 Grenache Blanc is pretty aromatic, with citrus, orchard fruit and white flowers that all grace this soft, open-knit white. There's nice texture and plenty of class to this stylish Grenache Blanc. Antonio Galloni. |

Coup de Coeur Chardonnay |
$175 |

WA 98-100 (1/2021): Coup de Coeur is a barrel-selection blend of Morlet's Chardonnay vineyards, using exclusively Old Wente clone selection. A barrel sample to be bottled in February 2021, the 2019 Chardonnay Coup de Coeur comes skipping out of the glass with bright, cheery scents of fresh pineapple, passion fruit, pink grapefruit and lime blossoms with suggestions of fresh ginger, almond croissant and chalk dust. The medium to full-bodied palate has an electric intensity of citrus and tropical fruit layers with compelling tension and a beguiling, mineral-tinged finish. JD 100 (12/2021): Lastly, the 2019 Chardonnay Coup De Coeur is a top barrel selection by Luc Morlet, and it's a magical Sonoma Coast release that tops out my scale. White flowers, lemon curd, honeyed toast, almond paste, and chalky mineral are just some of the nuances here, and it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a pure, layered, incredible texture, integrated acidity, and one heck of a long finish. It's slightly richer and more opulent than the other two releases, yet it has this brilliant minerality, a weightless mouthfeel, and does everything right. As with the other 2019s, it needs another 6-12 months of bottle age and will evolve for at least a decade. VM 95 (1/2022): The 2019 Chardonnay Coup de Cœur is a selection of the best barrels in the cellar. It stands out for its aromatic presence and brightness. Orchard fruit, mint, white flowers and white pepper lend brilliance to this textured yet gracious, impeccably balanced Chardonnay from Luc and Jodie Morlet. Antonio Galloni. |

Coup de Coeur Chardonnay |
$140 |

WA 97 (3/2023): A barrel selection and blend that Morlet feels represents his best, the 2020 Chardonnay Coup de Coeur is indeed a prodigious effort. Scents of toasted hazelnuts and white peaches dominate the nose, while the medium to full-bodied palate is plush and silky, with tremendous concentration and length. It's a complete wine, very nicely done. VM 94 (2/2023): The 2020 Chardonnay Coup de Cœur is a selection of the best barrels in the cellar. Tangerine oil, mint, white flowers and lightly honeyed notes all grace this gorgeous, aromatically expressive Chardonnay. Time in the glass brings out the wine's gorgeous creaminess and textural resonance. Antonio Galloni. |

2021 |
Belle Cote Chardonnay |
$95 |
1 |
WA 97+ (10/2023): The 2021 Chardonnay Belle Côte is bursting with gregarious scents of candied peaches and apricot, roasted almonds, matchstick, spring honey and glossy yet integrated new oak spices. The palate is silky and bright despite its deep core of ripe, youthfully coiled fruit, and it has a long, flinty finish. It unfolds and changes with time in the glass, and with all that concentration and freshness it's a great candidate for extended cellaring. VM 97 (8/2023): The 2021 Chardonnay Belle Côte is a wine of tremendous density and power. Orchard fruit, dried pear, graphite, anise and dried flowers infuse the 2021 with tremendous flavor complexity. Readers will find an intensely mineral, savory Chardonnay with the fruit pushed into the background. Belle Côte is the original Chardonnay planting at Peter Michael. Antonio Galloni. JD 95 (7/2023): From the oldest Chardonnay vines on the property, planted in 1990, the 2021 Chardonnay Belle-Cote pours a medium yellow and has an expressive perfume of wildflowers, wet stone, and white peach. Full-bodied, this floral profile is just as pronounced and long on the palate, with a soft, silky texture and ripe notes of melon, honeysuckle, and honeyed lemon. Long and attractive, it can be enjoyed 2024-2034. |

2022 |
La Carriere Chardonnay |
$99 |
3 |
VM 94 (1/2024): The 2022 Chardonnay La Carrière is a deep, potent wine with real phenolic intensity. The low yields of the vintage are evident in this decidedly rich, structured Chardonnay. I would cellar the 2022 for at least a few years, as it is quite the powerhouse at this early stage. Hints of apricot, chamomile, lemon peel and white flowers fill out the layers nicely. Antonio Galloni. |

2020 |
Ma Belle-Fille Chardonnay |
$85 |
4 |
WA 97 (2/2023): Matured for 12 months in about 40% new French oak, the 2020 Chardonnay Ma Belle Fille gains aromatic intensity as it spends time in the glass, segueing from matchstick, nutmeg and panna cotta to wafts of honey, apricot, lilac and lemon peel. Medium-bodied and ultra silky, it expands in the mouth from bright citrus to more savory, honeyed fruits. It offers generous, juicy acidity and a very long, ethereal finish. Still flaunting a touch of new-oak character, it will benefit from a couple years in bottle or some time in the decanter. JD 97 (8/2022): The nose of the 2020 Chardonnay Ma Belle-Fille is layered with fresh and citrus tones, with lime blossom, white flowers, and lemon pith. The mouthfeel is stony and has more tension while still having a classic viscous feel. VM 88 (1/2022): The 2020 Chardonnay Ma Belle Fille is marked by bright acids and a lack of overall depth. The signatures of Ma Belle Fille just aren't developed, and that leaves the wine feeling quite aggressive. In 2020, Ma Belle Fille includes lots that would have typically been used for the Point Rouge. Antonio Galloni. |

WA 93 (8/2024): The 2021 White Wine Distenta III blends 33% Chardonnay, 27% Viognier, 24% Gelber Muskateller, 12% Roussanne and 4% Petit Manseng, the latter pair co-fermented. It hails mainly from the Eleven Confessions Vineyard, with inclusions from The Third Twin and Cumulus. It spent 23 months in 52% new French puncheon and demi-muids. The nose is extremely floral and exuberant, with honeyed, exotic aromas of stone fruit, citrus oil, pine needles, mint and noticeable alcohol after increased aeration. The palate is weighty and oily, centered around a decedent core of polished stone fruit flavors underpinned by tangy acidity. The finish is texturally clean and focused but gradually develops to reveal distracting, spirituous sensations. VM 94 (8/2024): The 2021 White Wine Distenta III is a wild, exotic white. Ginger, passion fruit, spice and lemon confit are all woven together in the glass. Extended lees-stirring of 8-12 months really builds texture. The 2021 is rich and creamy but not at all heavy. Intensely perfumed overtones extend the finish. The Distenta III is a gorgeous wine in every way. The blend is 33% Chardonnay, 27% Viognier, 24% Gelber Muskateller, 12% Roussanne and 4% Petit Manseng. This is the first vintage with a high percentage of Muscat, an approach that is so successful here. Antonio Galloni. |

JD 92 (8/2022): The 2019 Chardonnay Allen Vineyard is fresh with pineapple, lime blossom, and toasted brioche. The palate is ripe with sweet pear, apple blossom, lemon custard, and pretty white flowers and mint. It has a soft texture and is open and drinking well now. Drink it over the next 8-10 years. Audrey Frick. WA 96 (7/2022): The 2019 Chardonnay Allen Vineyard, from fruit farmed by Tom Rochioli, offers stunning amplitude and intensity. Scented of Meyer lemon, crushed almonds, beeswax, wet stone and spring butter, the medium-bodied palate expands from bright citrus to honeyed stone fruits as it coats the mouth with its satiny texture.
