VM 93 (4/2018): Bright red. Extremely perfumed aromas of violet and raspberry on the enticing nose. Then more raspberry, but also blueberry and strawberry flavors and a strong juicy fruit-cocktail-like quality on the palate that persists nicely. Really lovely Brunello bursting at the seams with fresh bright fruit, and already utterly irresistible now. I had trouble not gulping my glass down all at once. Ian d'Agata. |

JS 95 (2/2013): Fine wine with fabulous aromas of tangerines and peaches with plums. So aromatic. Full body, with super polished tannins and a long, long finish. Drink or hold. WS 94 (6/2013): Pungent with balsamic and macchia underbrush aromas, this distinctive red also features cherry, leather and tobacco notes. The supple texture is offset by firm yet ripe and refined tannins. Excellent length. Best from 2016 through 2035. 850 cases made. VM 88+ (8/2013): Garnet-tinged red. Aromatic herbs and faded flowers dominate the nose, with hints of red cherry and dried cranberry emerging with aeration. On the palate, clove, cinnamon and menthol complement dusty red cherry and licorice flavors. The tannins are slightly grainy on the mildly bitter, moderately long, warm finish. This improved with aeration but it strikes me as a bit tired and lacking the energy and grip of Altesino's best bottlings. I actually liked the 2007 normale a lot more when I tasted it last year. VM 87 (6/2013): The 2007 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is a pretty, silky wine laced with sweet red cherries, savory herbs, anise, fennel, pipe tobacco and crushed flowers. Despite its attractive feel, the aromas and flavors are slightly forward, suggesting the wine needs to be enjoyed sooner rather than later. Herbal notes on the finish prove to be distracting. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2019. |

JD 94 (3/2021): Warm with baking spice, the 2015 Brunello Riserva has comforting aromas of cherry pie and purple plum. Full of ripe fruit, the palate gives way to more vinous, savory characteristics of cherry pit, black licorice, and tea leaf. The 2015 was aged for four years in new and used Slavonian oak. This is a contemplative wine in the Altesino lineup which deserves time to show what its potential will hold. Cellar 3-5 years and enjoy 2025-2035. Audrey Frick. |

VM 94+ (12/2021): The 2016 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is so incredibly dark and inward that it prompted me to open a second bottle just to confirm that impression. After an hour, the bouquet started to come to life, with hints of menthol and mint giving way to nuances of black currant and animal tones. It’s much more expressive on the palate, where silky textures are cooled by vibrant acids, and tart wild berry fruits mix with salty minerals and inner violet florals. The 2016 is long and structured, showing balsam herbs, black licorice and a flourish of inner sweetness. This is such an interesting showing as, other than the bouquet, all of the ingredients are here and well proportioned for a long, steady evolution. I’m very intrigued to see where this understated beauty is going over time. Until then, I chose to remain somewhat conservative. Eric Guido. |
